Clean, cozy, wonderful old hotel with very good bedtwn.

The Hotel itself was clean and the staff very welcoming. The room itself was basic, but had the rustic charm of a tradtional swiss lodging. The only thing that let it down for us was the food - although it was very nice and wel prepared, there wasn't a great deal of selection - espcially in the evening. However, the Breakfast was wonderful, which was a great way to start the day. I would certainly recommend this Hotel for Families, couples or anyone traveling solo.

Perfect base for a Swiss Holiday

The location of the hotel could hardly be better. No traffic. View of the lake. Bus service right in front of the house. The hotel is charming with charm and nostalgic flair. The host couple were very friendly and attentive. The same goes for the staff. The kitchen was good and decent. I was here as a group caretaker and I can imagine coming here again as a private person. There's nothing against it. I felt very comfortable here for the three days.

It's good to be back.

Seasonal cuisine, lovingly presented food, friendly service, chef showing up at the table in person - the nostalgic restaurant with flair at the boat dock is always worth a visit. We're happy to come back.

2nd stay here, super hotel,beautiful views from the hotel, lake and mountains. Very good food and locally brewed beer, excellent and welcoming  staff. Interlaken is okay but Bonigen is much nicer and the hotel is ideal for local transport. We will go back

Short break

There are so many great things about this hotel that made it really difficult to give it a four bubble review.  First off, the location is absolutely fantastic.  It is SO easy to access from the Interlaken Ost train station.  It's about a 12 minute bike ride or a 5 minute bus ride (depending on how you time it) from Interlaken Ost.  There is nothing between the hotel and lake Brienz except for a small park with some low trees, so the view from the patio where you eat breakfast is nearly unobstructed of the lake and mountains surrounding it. 

This leads me to the breakfast (included in the rate) which is everything you need: Hard boiled eggs, yogurts, jam, breakfast meats and cheese, and of course a variety of breads and cereal... your typical European buffet breakfast. The service is great and they bring you coffee or tea right away when you sit down. The views were phenomenal and contributed to a very pleasant dining experience. 

The interior of the hotel has a traditional feel to it which my wife and I (we're both 28) actually liked.  It was like being back in time without the old and worn down feel.  Everything was clean and tidy and relatively updated.  The Standard room was your basic double (two beds pushed together) with a view of the some buildings and the start of the mountains in the background... very nice! It is my understanding that the Superior room has lake views. There were two nice chairs for sitting with a TV that we didn't use. The only sink was part of the room which was fine, but separate from the bathroom which had a door to a sitting area, and another door to the toilet and shower.  This was good for privacy purposes.

Although the accommodations were satisfactory and what we expected for the (reasonable) price, there were some things we struggled with.  Neither my wife nor I are very sensitive sleepers, but church bells rang until at least midnight and started again at 6am... every 15 minutes and on the hour.  It was tough for us to fall asleep and of course they woke us up in the morning very early.  With the windows closed, this may not have been an issue, but it was so hot without AC that we had to keep the air moving during the night with windows open. I know this has nothing to do with the walls-in of the hotel, but it did affect our experience.  The second element was the family-owned aspect.  Don't get me wrong, this was also a highlight because you felt a warm welcome and pride of ownership.  However, it was a bit tough to find staff when you needed them... like when we were trying to catch the train and there was nobody at the front desk to check us out.  Also, everything is done by paper so when I did manage to get someone's attention, they needed to write up the invoice before they took payment.  Communication to make a reservation over email was a bit slow as well and there's no online booking that I could find. In addition, the wi-fi was good in the lobby but we had no reception in our room (15 on the third floor).

Otherwise, we really liked our stay and would probably come back maybe when the weather has cooled down a bit so we can keep the windows shut at night.

One last thing- the paddle company that runs out of their garage was super nice and friendly to us even though we didn't rent boards/kayaks from them.  They gave us advice on where to bike around the lake and sold great beer!

So close to a five bubble review!

Good local beers,  excellent service,  hearty Swiss food. All in a great location at the end of, and overlooking, lake Brienz.  Sunny patio area to sit on and traditional interior. Bus stop right outside and ship pier a short walk away.

Great bar/restaurant in lovely position

We have just returned from a two week stay, half board at this hotel. The hotel is a traditional ,  Swiss village hotel with a restaurant which takes daily local trade. The rooms are clean and basic with en suite bathrooms.The decor is a little tired but quaintly beautiful with much carved wood. The meals  were  again traditional swiss fare  and delicious.

Had 3 nights stay , the hotel is superb, great location being handy for buses and lake trip. Staff are excellent. Stayed half board and the evening meal was very good as was the continental breakfast. Rooms are clean and well presented, ours overlooked the lake. Character hotel so not modern, but facilities are good. Friendly locals in the bar.

Stunning location

The Oberländerhof is an extremely cozy, nostalgic hotel built around the turn of the last century. The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are simple but very clean. There is only one drop-off point for the bed. For my taste, the mattresses are a little too soft and the bed is scratching...
