We booked a week at Petit Velan, but when we got to the train station, they took us to a different place called Albergue des Alpes without telling us why until we asked. They said Petit Velan was empty, but we should have been told about the change sooner.

The Place and Location:

Albergue des Alpes wasn't nice. It looked old and wasn't what we expected.
It's really out of the way. You need a car because there's no supermarket nearby, just a tiny shop. This is different from what their website says.

Working Space:

The co-working space is just a small room with four chairs. It's hard to work there with people talking and having meetings.

False Advertising on Their Website:

Skillsharing Workshops: They said they had these, but they didn't.
Community Cooking: They talk about cooking together, but when we got there, they told us to buy our own food. The kitchen only has four cooking hobs and no dishwasher for a place that can host 22 people.
No Activities: They didn't have any group activities, events, or trips like they said.
Ski Pass: We asked for the ski pass they mention on their site, but we never got it. It's also really hard to get to the ski slopes. It looks us 2h by bus to get to the closer ski station that was open.
No Community Manager: They say there's a community manager, but that's not true.
Getting There: They say it's easy to get there, but it's not. From Geneva, you need to take 3 trains and a bus, and it costs about 50 CHF. You often wait a long time for the next bus.

Price:

It's too expensive for what you get. You can find a one-bedroom flat in the same area for half of the money.
Overall, we were really let down.

Misleading Information and Disappointing Experience at Petit Velan/Albergue des Alpes

We stayed at the Petit Velan while doing a 4 day walk from Martigny to Aosta through the Col St Bernard. It's quite small and basic but very clean and comfortable. There is a nice kitchen with a little terrace where you can make a drink and sit and look at the hills and listen to the cow bells. The evening meal and breakfast were good and the welcome was friendly and warm. It is a very homely place which I'd definitely recommend.

Good walkers hotel

This is a very nice place to stay & eat, on a convenient place while under-way to the Velan or Valsorey mountain huts, or just along the Bernard pass.

I have been there several times, always staying at the dormitories. These are very neat, which also applies to the adjoining toilets and showers. Targeted at the outdoors there is also storage for shoes and racks to dry laundry. Free WiFi is also present, at least in the restaurant.

Staying indoors, one can also enjoy a nice meal and a good breakfast in the cosy restaurant. It is the best restaurant in the village anyway, as far as I know. We only wished for a bit larger portions.

The place is mainly run by a sympathetic lady. It all breathes an air of quality, for a fair price.

But that makes it very disappointing to encounter some very annoying details. I cannot remember if there were there 2 years before.

The (right) dormitory we were in had 2 spots of very low ceiling. Those were of the type 'take-care-but-they-will-get-you-anyway-repeatedly'. After several bumps, that is no fun anymore. So why isn't there any padding to protect the guest?

The other thing is the showers. It all looked very well. But taking a shower, none of the 3 cabins were quite usable. 2 of them were of type 'I-will-spray-everywhere-except-on-you'. The 3rd I am not quite sure of anymore, but probably of style 'hard-to-catch-single-stream-straight-along-the-wall'.

So please dear lady, get those right, and I will happily stay again if I get around.

Best place in the village to stay & eat, pity of some annoying details

In this little remote village, I accidentally entered this very nice little auberge, 5 minutes from the bus station and right in the centre of Bourg St. Pierre. The perfect location to start the way up to Cabane de Velan or Cabane de Valsorey. Thanks for the friendly, familiar service!

The perfect accomodation for Haute Route mountaineers

Fantastic location for trail running, nice simple kitchen with good food and great service.

Would defiantly be back.
