After wanting to stay at another Soglio hotel that was fully booked, the Stüa Granda turned out to be an absolutely perfect experience from start to finish. Room nr 10 had a gorgeous little balcony to enjoy an evening wine and morning coffee with mountain views. Their awarded restaurant is a matter of pride for a reason, the truffle risotto was absolutely superb. And the waiting staff just the loveliest bunch of people, attentive, thoughtful. To top it all is their signature chestnut cake, melt in your mouth with the tiniest hint of a crust, just wonderful brandy-soaked chestnut puree.

A lucky second choice and a perfect experience

My 2018 review really does say it all, but coming back again for another 11 days probably is the best indication of what we think of this place.  It is beyond special, as is the hiking in this area.  We love this area so much better than up the valley in St Moritz .  You feel like you are part of the community, and the hotel truly makes you feel like home.  We intend to bring friends back here in two years

Back again - and as incredible as when we were here in 2018

Quaint hotel nestled among the stunning Alps. The tiny village stands still in time with lots of character and was once voted the quaintest Village in all of Switzerland. We kept our apartment in Bellagio Italy and took the local Bernina Express train that travels on the same line to St Mortz.  We then  caught the bus that travels through the Bregaglia valley and along the way chose to stay in Soglio so we wouldnt be rushed. The next day we caught the bus to Triano and then the train back to Bellagio. We did have reservations for the hotel but not the train so we would have flexibility on departure time.  We found the local train amazing wirh lots of room to move around. It was an amazing one night and two day journey full of beautiful scenery and adorable villages.  The hotel staff were very friendly and we found 
our room to be extremely clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was beautiful and delicious with many fresh home
 made selections to choose from. 

Cozy hotel in the most Charming village ever!

What a gem! This hotel only has 10 rooms. Staff is very nice and professional. All speak a little English. Request room #10 with the balcony for a great view. Neat art. Conveniently located right by parking lot and bus stop. Warning! This town has extremely narrow streets and we almost got our car stuck. I highly recommend when you get to the top of the hill you park in the lot and then just walk. Town is extremely small and the hotel is the first on your left so this is not a problem. Bring coins for parking - about $5 in coins for parking per day. Great breakfast is included. On sight gourmet restaurant. Highly recommend starting with the garden salad. What lovely presentation! Small portions but rich food so a little goes a long way. Pricy food but that is Switzerland! Hotel reasonable - $330 for two nights.

Excellent hotel

We stayed here for 11 days as we hiked in the area, and found the place out of this world in so many ways.  #1 has to be the incredible location from which you can look out over the mountains and explore the village of Soglio.  

The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, and the service from the staff exceptional.  Don't expect any TV's as if you want to watch something just open your window and look out!

The meals we had were incredible.  They were original, they were tasteful, they were seasoned just the right way, they were presented as if we were in one of the world's fanciest restaurant and they were served by staff that did a great job of making you feel special.

If you come for the night you will love it, and if you only come for a meal you will probably be looking to book a room and stay awhile.

Gem in the Mountains

Stayed in June with a group of friends from HK for 2 nights. Spacious rooms with spotless bathrooms - room #1 has a very new looking renovated one, had one very happy guest in there;-)
No elevator, so be prepared to lug your suitcase up the stairs - only to the 1st floor, but still. Had rooms with valley views, nice bonus. The church is right next door, so bells are ringing all night.
Unfortunately, we saw more rain than anything else during our stay, but was still enough to take walks through the village and enjoy the atmosphere. The planned hikes had to be skipped, but Soglio remains one of my favorite villages in Switzerland, unbeatable on a beautiful day. 
The restaurant serves excellent Swiss/Italian dishes, had the local chestnut gnocchi which were excellent. Nice breakfast as well.
Overall a great stay and would choose this place again for a future stay.
