A simple, cozy place where you can feel just like home. Really warm and equipped with anything a traveller spending some quite time in the mountains may need. The location is perfect- a bit asolated but still a ten minutes walk to the center of Kandersteg village. The owner of the hotel is amazingly easy- going and helpful. Can just recommend. It is worth the booking ;)

Sooooo cozy!

Spent 2 nights here in the 9 bed mix dorm room on the bottom floor. The room was very clean and comfortable with plenty of warm blankets and a heater. The bathroom was outside the room just down the hall which had one shower and toilet. Upstairs there were 2 private double rooms with a seperate shower and seperate toilet. The kitchen and lounge area was also clean and fully equiped with cooking utensils, dinning table, tv, heaters and board games. It would cost 10CHF extra to use the kitchen during peak season however as we were there during low season it was free. We were also the only people staying in the entire place (middle October). The wifi was free and fast. The hostel is located about a 15min walk from the train station, grocery shops, restaurants and base of the Oeschinensee walk. There is a bus stop out the very front of the hostel that will take you into town for free as a guest of the hostel (you will get a card when you check in) the bus leaves every hour. Reception is in the house next door and the staff are lovely with great tips of things to see and do in Kanderstag and the greater region.

Great value

I went a few weeks ago with my family in Kandersteg and booked a night at Kanderhutte hotel. The place was really clean and tidy, very comfortable beds and the view from the windows was really amazing. 
We didn't know exactly that we need to take a car train to arrive in Kandersteg. Someone from the hotel waited for us till we arrived even if was quite late and also he explained everything on the phone where we need to go and what to take and this was really helpful. 
The price was very acceptable. I recommend this place to everyone.

Great place. Very nice staff

A comfortable, affordable, clean & tidy hostel (the only hostel in Kandersteg I think) a 10-15 min walk from the train station. Luic was a fantastic host, full of knowledge & advice on routes & a weather man, always prepared to help in any way. Great for either a week's stay or just a night or two. A perfect base for hitting the mountains hard! Would highly recommend! Thanks.

Excellent base & very affordable!

On arrival, we were at first dismayed by the location of the property.  It's about a 15 minute walk from the train station and center of town, which is not ideal for weary travelers.  Once we got to the address, we were still confused, since the property identified itself as the house for the "Alpine Summer Camp".  After knocking on the front door, we were greeted very warmly by Claudia, a head of the camp and the property, who explained that we could stay in the house with the (young) campers, since they weren't booked with other travelers.  She said that normally, when more crowded, those renting rooms/beds use the huts out back.  The room was sufficiently sized with several bunk beds, but we had the whole room to ourselves (2 of us).  The bathroom/showers were outside the room.  The toilets were always available, and the showers were usually available (when we timed it so that the kids weren't coming back from their summer fun).  Quiet hours were adhered to (starting at 10), and we were able to get a lot of sleep. Edgar, another head of the camp, was extremely warm and gracious, allowing us to use their kitchen for our dinner, and giving us detailed suggestions for a hike that we planned to take the next day.  All in all, the price was unbeatable, the staff was extremely accommodating, and we had a great experience.
