The hotel is a basic hotel but the room was clean and quiet. The hotelier did the check-in, check-out and served the breakfast. The breakfast was a la carte - no buffet. You can walk to the Rheinfall Schaffhausen which was the reason for the stay overnight. Bicycle could be placed inside the hotel.

Basic hotel but clean & quiet

Closed!!!!!! Check-in at 2, so we arrived at 2.30 and the place was clearly locked up.  Knocked and called, it was very empty. No reception but a number to call - rang and rang: no reply. Had to go back to the railway station for wifi to phone the Booking Agent who advised us to phone the same number we'd been phoning!  By 4 pm it was obvious we were having to book elsewhere.  The place looks tired and unkempt, after reading older reviews it was probably for the best.  There are other places to stay in the town which all seemed more inviting.

Is this hotel open?

It's a great neighbourhood: quiet and close to the gorgious rheinfall. And at first sight, the little hotel seems to be ok. But at second sight, it becomes strange: chairs are on the tables in the restaurant, the light doesn't work in the very small toilet of the very small room. And there are neither guests nor hosts - but yes, we are the guests and this guy is the host.
Over all:  Apart of the rheinfall, the beautiful old town and some very good restaurants, the Schaffhausen area is a tourist's desert. And in this desert, the Edelweiss hotel doesn't reflect its noble name at all. But you can sleep there and you don't pay too much.

stranger than paradise

Not friendly staff. Beautiful view but the waitress was unfriendly. Very expensive!!! There is nothing to do
You can see the mountains it's beautiful but that's it. And it was lovely to sit in the sun. 

Horrible

Clean but very basic! Tiny 'en suite" almost had to climb over toilet to get in shower cubicle! Shower holder broken.

Good breakfast although did have to wait nearly 30 minutes whilst croissants were collected from bakery.

Ok for a couple of nights but not much more. Close to Rhine Falls and some good restaurants nearby.

Very basic!!

We booked late for a holiday weekend and could only get here near the Rhine Falls.  It was o.k.  It was clean, neat, surprisingly quiet considering how thin the walls were - I got creeped out when the person across the hall unlocked and opened his door because it sounded so much like it was our room.  The room was tiny and the holder for the shower head was broken.  However, the water pressure was fine and the water warmth was fine, which put it ahead of some more expensive hotels I have stayed in.

If you want to charge the room, be sure to tell them up front.  When we went to pay, she wanted cash and said only her boss could accept a credit card and he wasn't there.  She said he asked me when I checked in, but no he didn't.  Fortunately she was willing to accept Euros at a reasonable exchange rate.

There was free parking which was nice.  There was free wifi but it was poor.

Adequate - clean and neat but few amenities

You will love this hotel if:
- For you the lowest price means the best hotel
- You don't need a shower (cold water tap in room 24 doesn't work)
- You like to smoke in your room (the smell is already there)
- You hate being traceable by your credit card (Edelweiss accepts only cash)
- You don't need an orange juice for breeakfast (it's extra)
- You don't mind going downstairs to get a wifi connection.

Cheap!

Rooms are very basic with little furniture and tiny toilets. Restaurant for breakfast was fine but in 2 days we didnt see the eating areas occupied at all. Staff had no English but were friendly and helpful.The big win is that it is in walking distance from the waterfalls and this is vital sometimes (we visited on Swiss National Day and firework display attracted thousands). It's only 10 mins drive into Scauffhausen which is lovely
