The owner with a beard is sitting at the bar day in day out drinking beer and is careless about the guest satisfaction. It is obviously an alcoholic, it doesn’t look good and he is rude.

The food quality is bad. I would not come back here again. The owner with the beard is making inappropriate comments to the guests, and is chatting with some alcoholic couple.

If you want to be near the train station and have the convenience of an in-hotel bar and restaurant, then this is for you. BUT you also need to be able to put up with rude, unhelpful, and distrusting owners/front desk staff, stained walls and carpeting in the halls and rooms, and minimal amenities.

Guest beware

Location is very good, just across from the station. The room was clean with modern decor and (basic) furnishings. Nice to have a balcony. The staff are mostly friendly.  The breakfast is pretty basic - cereals (no proper museli or granola), bread rolls, a few sliced cold meats, yogurt, and a bowl of fruit cocktail. You get what you pay for and the price per night is very good for Zermatt. I found the wifi fine in my room, but no signal in the breakfast area. 
The not so good - no kettle in the room, which is first time I’ve ever stayed anywhere where that is the case. So don’t plan on coffee on the balcony. They will give you hot water if you have a flask. When they say check out at 11am they mean it. I got back to the hotel at 10:50am only to find my keycard had stopped working and the receptionist told me it’s because 11am is checkout time. I had to point out it wasn’t 11 yet, which for me finished the stay on a slightly sour note. 

Ok for the price

The Good - Location.  Best location in Town !!  150 feet from the Train that goes up the mountain.... and it ends there.  Wait.... Breakfast was very good every day.  Staff very nice.   However it is mostly family members running the hotel, cooking and cleaning rooms.  Beds are very comfortable.
The Bad - the decor and repairs are badly needed.  Water dripping in dining area, hardwood floors coming up do the the water dripping.  Molding coming off.  Small TV's in bedrooms. 
The Ugly - first let me mention that my parents came from Germany so I am accustom to very good German food.   I decided one night to have McDonald's (right across the street) instead of having another dinner at the Hotel G.  The blue cabbage was the WORST in my life.   The food was edible, that is it.   Another night I went to the butcher shop up the street who and an outside grill and grab a delicious sausage there.
A Motel 6 in the USA would be an upgrade to this premiere property location.   It is just a shame that this 6th generation hotel is failing sooo poorly.  It is appropriately  rated 102 out of 109 hotels in Zermatt.   



The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Went to the Gornergrat Dorf Bistro for something to eat for dinner and did not want to spend too much. Very friendly staff, and good food (think Rösti and other Walliser dishes). Excellent value for money and recommended if you want something simple for dinner. Did not visit the hotel.

We are a frequent traveller & loves to dine out. We ordered the Menu of the day & Spaghetti bolognese did not mind the price because the restaurant/hotel looks elegant thinking it will be perfect for the occassion. To my surprise the service was quick but as we eat the food it was not fresh (seemed ready made & reheated). Unfortunately, the food tasted really awful & we experienced stomach ache after. Such a waste of time and money. 😝👎👎👎

The worst food I had in 61years of my life and it's suppose to be a birthday celebration.

I'm traveling around Switzerland for 1 week as far and I m suprised how bad is that place. Especcialy personel  in the "restaurant". The food was totally awful and once I asked about it if everything is ok with this they became very aggresive. Please avoid.

Hotel in poor shape and staff totally have attitude problems, There are plenty of other options out there. The elevator is like out of a horror movie. Lights don’t come on in every stairway, it was in need of major overhaul. Staff needs to be replaced.

Trainwreck

Poor quality hotel... the towels were threadbare ; there was peeling and rusted paint on the balcony ceiling. The beds sagged in center. Mold over shower stall. Do not reccomend at all. Breakfast food was fair.

Zermatt Switzerland

We were booked into the Gornergrat Dorf Hotel by Viking Cruise Line.  It is well located directly across the street from the RR station but the place is filthy, cramped and gloomy.  It has an unfriendly staff who herded all the Viking guests into a very few, very tight tables for breakfast.  The rooms have cracked walls with peeling paint.  Towels are threadbare and should have been replaced years ago. One guest submitted pictures to Viking documenting the horrid conditions including cigarette burns in the curtains.  Water bottles in the room are billed at $4.50 each.  The room had a flat screen TV but I didn't know you could even find one that small.
