We chose Tea Cloud B&B because of the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor, and our experience was just as excellent as everyone elses’ here. 

First of all, how to get there. If you’re getting to the village by car, no issues! If you’re getting there by bus, then take the 7329 bus from the Chiayi HSR (or 7322 from Chiayi train station) to the Shizhao (石棹) stop. Give Mr. Liu a call and he will come to pick you up!

That is the beginning of the hospitality that comes with staying here. Mr. Liu and four generations of his family live in the same building, so feel free to ask for details and recommendations on meals and points of interest! 

The rooms are on the upper floors of the building, and very temperate unlike the lowlands of Taiwan - no air conditioning needed in the summer; the dehumidifier can serve as the heater in the winter. Next to the bed is a wooden Japanese-style floor and table plus a hot water heater to brew some tea of your own. Wifi is provided for each room. The bed is clean and comfortable; the bathroom a bit spartan but still great to shower off the day’s hike and then relax.

In the morning, wake up early to catch the sunrise off Alishan in the sixth floor lounge without having to bundle up and make the trek into an observation platform in the park (where it’s not even guaranteed that the weather will cooperate). Since the B&B is a little lower in altitude, the sky is more likely to be clear and permit the viewing of the sunrise! Stick around to watch the 雲海 (yunhai; “cloud sea”) where you’re high up enough that it looks like you’re on an island amidst a sea of cloud!

You’ll notice quickly that tea is the livelihood of many who live on the mountainside - Mr Liu’s main business is growing and making all types of famous “high mountain tea” - and he is happy to explain the difference between Oolong and Jinxuan; green, red, and black tea while serving you fragrant varieties in his tea room. 

Mr. Liu will also take your order for breakfast and have it delivered to your door at 8:30 AM after you sleep off the sunrise; alternatively he will recommend a Taiwanese quick-eats place up the street which is also quite tasty. For dinner, either go next door or a little up the mountain for a tea-themed, locally sourced tasty meal!

Definitely would stay here again; highly recommended as you truly feel like family!

Feels Like You’re Family!

The rooms are comfortable, clean, quiet, the common room on the sixth floor with a very nice view and you can relax there, near the trains in the tea fields and quite close to the park of Alyshan, a quiet place.

A place to enjoy the D'alishan area and enjoy tea.

My husband and I stayed in Tea Cloud B&B for 2 nights. The family who operates it went above and beyond to assist us in so many ways. My husband left his jacket on the shuttle bus we arrived in and they assisted us in locating the jacket and getting the jacket back for us from the bus driver. They even lent us a jacket in case it was too cold when we headed up to Alishan National Forest. They shuttled us around to the trails, breakfast place and dinner places. The room is clean, nice view for sunrise and closeby there’s a spot to see sunsets. We will certainly come back again and patronize their place. Thank you Mr & Mrs Liew (not sure if this is the right spelling) and Kar Shing for your hospitality. It’s a five star experience for us.

Most hospitable B&B I’ve visited

the host is super friendy and the b&B is clean big and big area, very comfy. Also can see the sunrise at the top floor. They also tell me where to visit and the nice local resturants in Alishan. A very comfy experience. I will be be back!

We are so happy to stay at Tea Cloud as Mr Liu and his family are such a great host. They will always initiate to offer help such as, to ferry us to nearby restaurants, visit their tea plantation (explain to us the type of plants), offer to send us to Yuyupas(although we told them we are walking over), sending us to the bus stop(catch our bus to Chiayi). 

Beside being a great host, the place very well maintained and clean. The breakfast was simple but nice (vegetables was grow by senior Mr Liu, mantou(freshly order fr nearby neighbour) and soybeans were homemade)

Fantastic Minsu Owners

I honestly think that the price of the Hotel does not match what it offers. The owners are very kind but unfortunately breakfast is infamous. No toast, no juice, no bread... They do not take into account Western tourism so I disagree. It is right on the main road..... which takes away much charm and reference to the view.... from the breakfast area, the windows are so high that nothing can be seen, by the way, we share this room with the laundry....just next door. We were walking through the tea plantations and ASSURE that there are accommodations with much more charm surrounded by nature and vegetation.

Too expensive for what it offers.

We stayed three nights in this very friendly place.    The owner and his family own a tea plantation and the younger Mr Liu is a very helpful person who was generous with his advice on where to go and what to see.   We appreciated the kindness of the owner who drove us to a nearby restaurant for dinner on the night we arrived.   On that day, the fog was very heavy, and on most parts of the winding road whilst we were driving to the B and B visibility was very poor.   

We stayed in a room on the 6th floor.   There was elevator access, so moving luggage was easy.   The room was basic, but had all necessities provided.  The TV had many channels, including CNN and BBC World News.   There is a dehumidifier and a fan in the room, but not an air-con.   The hosts were hospitable.   Mr Liu also took time to drive us to see fireflies one night after dinner.

We were not used to disposable towels and asked for the real thing which was readily provided.    Mrs Liu even offered to do laundry for us!   It felt like staying at a friend's home.

We liked the breakfast which had many types of vegetables and fresh fruit.   

The drive to Alishan Park took about 40 minutes.   The distance is around 25km, but there was a speed limit of 30km along the winding Route 18 for most parts of the way.

Warm hospitality and a nice room on the road to Alishan

This is a modern hotel with breakfast, rather than the typical B & B. We had a beautiful, spacious room with a Korean-style raised wooden floor, incorporating a Japanese style sunken dining area. The decor was most tasteful, with painting and artwork by the artist member of the family.
It was very clean with comfortable bedding and a shower in the bath room. 
The room came with all the necessary appointments, including a  Tea/Coffee service. 
(However, coffee satchets in every Taiwan hotel we stayed in were 3-in-1 type ie milk and sugar included and Convenience stores only sell the 3-in-1 satchets too.  So Byo if you want black and no sugar. The only other alternative is to buy a brewed from a cafe or Convenience store.)
We chose it because of the one can view the famous Alishan sunrise just outside the bedroom, in a special tea lounge. (We were not prepared to wake at 3:30 am and join the hoardes travelling back by train to the park for the more famous view.) Just across the road from the hotel, one could also view sunset and cloud banks in the valley, if weather permits. 
This Hotel is near a small township with some small shops and one restaurant with amazing food. We asked host to write down food recommendations: eg tea oil chicken, wasabi tofu.
The Hotel is owned and run by a family of tea-growers, and the young manager spoke excellent English, unlike most people in the smaller Taiwanese towns, who we met, who did not speak much English. Signs of local shops are only in Chinese. Get a photo shot of your hotel/restaurant name and address in Chinese as even taxi drivers in the city may not know the English name.  If walking there, take a picture from Gxxxxx Earth!

modern, comfortable, our preferred location because...

Simply a great B&B. Where else can you open your door and greet the majestic sun rising over the mountains while still in your pajamas. Very clean and spacious rooms, delicious food, and the friendliest staff. And lets not forget the wonderful tea.
A perfect starting place to explore Alishan Mountain or if the weather doesn't cooperate just pull a book from their library and enjoy some private time in the solarium. If time permits, please take the opportunity to sample the exquisite teas this area is famous for.
Definitely looking forward to a return trip.

Sunrise in your PJ's!

Like all other reviews that you'll read about Tea Cloud, what makes this place stands out is the amazing hospitality. The warmth and thoughtfulness of the Liu family really made us felt so much at home. The rooms were clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. The sunrise view on the 6th floor balcony is amazing! Imagine eating authentic Taiwanese breakfast with a view to die for.. Mr Liu also hosted us to a tea making session to introduce to us Alishan tea and other local produce. All in all, a great experience. I'd gladly stay here again the next time I visit Alishan.
