We were at Ocean Melody B&B on the 14th and 15th of Dec and I must say all 13 of us enjoyed the stay there. When we arrived, Ms Huang was already there waiting for us. She helped to unload our luggage, and the moment we stepped into the house, it really felt like home to all of us, clean warm and cozy. Once we were settled down, she started to give a detail explanation of all the rooms and facilities there.

All the rooms are equally good, clean and comfortable. In my opinion, even better than some of the 5 star hotel room. The only con that I can say about the place is, you have to carry your luggage up 2 to 3 story depending on which floor you stay. Otherwise basically there is nothing to complain about the house.

Ms Huang is a friendly lady who is welling to answer all your inquiries. She will also provide you with some of the tourist map and recommend those nice eatery locations to you. She is even kind enough to pass us some of her VIP cards so that we can get bigger discount when we buy stuff from some of the famous shops. She also offer to go buy for us a particular muazhi if we are buying a lot because she can get additional discount from that shop if she goes personally. 

Breakfast is simple but delicious and nutritious. There is always warm soy bean milk and coffee to go along with the breakfast.

The location of the B&B is very near to the sea side and it is really nice to go for a early morning walk at the sea side, refreshing, cooling and windy. Although the night market is within walking distance, but it is still a pretty long walk especially if you are going there after a long day of sight seeing.

If you ask me will I go back to stay in Ocean Melody B&B when I am back in Hualien, all the 13 of us will tell you it is a definite YES.

A place like home

First off, no towels seem a norm for most Taiwanese B&B.  But they provide toothbrush/tooth paste! Go figure. Only stayed for one summer day.  The property is conveniently located near both the markets (there are two) and the oceanfront path.  However, it is not directly on the ocean and I don't think that any room offers an ocean view.  The room is equipped with all modern amenities and clean. Beds are comfortable.  Although the property was completely booked during our stay, we did not hear noise at all.  It was very quiet.  The hostess was helpful but not chatty. Breakfast was delicious. My only complaint is that the bikes they had on loan for guests were really beat up.  They are good bikes that just need some work so that, at minimum, the brakes should work.  The early evening bike ride to 七星潭 was very pleasant that only took me 30-40 min -- well worth it.

Great location, beautiful deco, and good service

Absolutely wonderful stay.  The owner is exceptionally attentive, though not in a bothersome way.  She provided materials on where to eat and what to see, and provided a taxi trip to the train station at a lower, flat rate which saved me some kuai.

The lower half of the B&B is well maintained with a homey ambiance, not too pretentious but still very classy.  A cafe bar, a dining area, hi-speed wifi, two large lounges with two tvs and a piano round out a spacious lobby.  At one point I heard the owner (or one of her adorable children!) playing a jazzy version of Fur Elise as an excellent addition to the seaside sounds of this spot.  

My stay was actually taking advantage of deposit a friend had made but could not not make the trip up for, and the owner had no problem honoring the down payment (at very short notice, I might add).  Rooms are spacious and clean, and DO include towels.  All the amenities of hotels are provided (water, glasses, toiletries, guide books, etc).  It is a quiet place for some R&R with a minute walk to the ocean.  I cannot say enough good things about the accommodations or the owners!

Perfection

This facility does not provide towels.

It is VERY inconvenient especially when you have small children and ALL the stores are closed because of a major holiday. 

Owner insisted this information was given on the phone but was not true. Who would ever opt to pay 4000 grand a night in advance to a place that does not supply the basics?????

Owner was very rude and not very eager to accomodate or please. 

A lot of bizarre rules. No eating in the room. The complimentary coffee was nice UNTIL they make you drink it on the first floor.  Really strange!

A refund was requested but was told that it would have to be wired into an account. No cash back.....again, strange. 

In short, there are many wonderful homestays around Hualien that are warm, friendly and accomodating. 

This is not one of them. Dont waste your money!
