My husband, daughter and I stayed at Villa Romana for three nights in June and had the most wonderful time. I would highly recommend it! 

Andrew and Maria looked after us so well, driving us to a great restaurant on our first night and making sure that we were well looked after there. Maria made us delicious breakfasts and great seafood on our last day. They arranged the hire of scooters and boat trips for us, and gave us very helpful tips on the best places to explore. In fact, Andrew even lent my husband a long-sleeved shirt so that his arms wouldn't get sunburnt after driving around on his scooter!

The villa is beautiful, spacious and surrounded by sea on three sides so we enjoyed stunning sunsets and sunrises. We stayed in the superior room on the first floor which was very comfortable and had its own sitting area where we could just relax and enjoy the sea view.

Villa Romana is situated a short, inexpensive taxi ride away from Magong where we found a great variety of restaurants, shops and things to see and do. However, it was bliss to be able to escape back to this peaceful retreat each evening.

It proved to be an ideal base to explore all the islands have to offer, including pretty beaches, fascinating geology, giant banyan trees, temples, traditional coral cottages, great food and the friendliest people you could hope to meet. We particularly enjoyed exploring Jibei Island on scooters, seeing the world-class 1.5 km long sand spit surrounded by crystal turquoise sea and the stone weirs that were built for fishing.

Fabulous, friendly B & B with sea views

My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of staying at Andrew and Maria's B&B for three days and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great experience on every level!

Communication
Andrew was very responsive via email, even months before we were set to arrive. His responses to our questions were always in-depth and he often went above and beyond to answer questions we hadn't even thought to ask. While we were on the actual island, we had an international SIM card, so he could answer our questions when we were out and about. 

Location
The house is perfectly situated just north of downtown. We stayed in the deluxe room on the third floor and all I can say is "wow". The entire room is bigger than the pictures make it seem and the views are breathtaking (see attached photos). The entire house itself is something to admire - the beautiful construction easily differentiates itself from the less ornate buildings in the area.

It is just a short drive to downtown where you can see fireworks on select days, grab dinner, or just explore the city. It is far enough away from the traffic where you can have a peaceful nights sleep.

We had been traveling China for nearly a month at this point and had stayed at a number of 5-star hotels, but Andrew & Maria put them to shame. The water pressure is strong, wifi is extremely fast, aircon is cold (huge plus!), and the all the amenities are restocked everyday. In all, it has the best features of a 5-star hotel with the "homey" feel of staying with some friends. It's also worth mentioning the fact that there are only two rooms, so you don't have to worry about overcrowding.

Service
Although the room is amazing, the help Andre and Maria provide is what made our stay so special.

Firstly, the breakfast Maria cooked us was delicious. Our first morning was geared toward a western breakfast, the second was a seafood dish (great!), and the last breakfast was a traditional breakfast on one of Penghu's main breakfast streets. Being exposed to the cuisine on the island was something we would not have experienced if not for Andrew & Maria.

Secondly, they booked nearly everything for us. It's actually somewhat scary to think how we would have fared without their help. They booked our car, our snorkeling day trip, kayaking, and ferry tickets. Furthermore, they picked us up from the airport and even put gas in our car!

Lastly, they always offered events for us to attend. We would receive texts saying when there was an amazing sunset, fireworks in downtown, or stargazing opportunities. 

Our only regret from this trip was that we only had the pleasure of staying three days with them. Andrew and Maria offered nearly endless advice on attractions and sightseeing opportunities. They are the best rated on tripadvisor for a reason - we were fortunate for the opportunity to stay with them.

Best B&B Experience Yet

We stayed at "Villa Romana" for eight days. Andrew and Maria were really awesome hosts. Maria picked us up from the airport and helped us to rent a scooter. "Villa Romana" is the last house of the road and directly at the ocean. Nevertheless it's real close to the Magong center and also 7-11 is only 2 minutes away. We stayed in the 3F Apartment with a really stunning ocean view. The room was super clean, the bed was comfy and our bathroom was big with shower and bathtub. 
Maria prepared a different breakfast every morning and it was delicious every time. One day Andrew took us outside to try the local breakfast shops in Magong.
Both of them really tried to make our stay as comfy as possible. They gave us many advices where to go and even some secret tips, that you won't find in any travel guides. 
We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend "Villa Romana", if you plan to visit Penghu. Especially for couples its a romantic place an totally worth it. Thank you to Andrew and Maria, we hope to come back someday.

Romantic ocean view B&B

We spent a really memorable five days on Makung with Andrew and Maria, in their welcoming home. Our room on the third floor was really large and comfortable - the pictures on the website don't show how spacious it is (though I'm reliably informed there are dimensions given on the website) and also, being on the top floor, you feel you have privacy and are not encroaching on the hosts' space either. The villa has wifi, though we did have to check our emails downstairs, as the wifi connection didn't quite reach through the villa's solid construction to the top floor, it was not a huge problem for us.

Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and set us up well for the day and we really enjoyed chatting with Andrew and Maria over breakfast in the morning (including a vegetarian breakfast for me). The owners have lived in Penghu for over 20 years and so have excellent local knowledge, which they were only too happy to share with us. They took us to the local Breakfast Street one morning and pointed us in the right direction for the best local delicacies too.

You definitely need a vehicle of some kind to get to Villa Romana; we caught a taxi from the airport (flat fare) and then rented a scooter the following day, which our hosts had arranged for us. We had no major problems riding the scooter on the island, distances are manageable and traffic isn't nearly as intense as some of Taiwan's larger cities! Still pays to be vigilant though.

Importantly, the scooter allowed us to get to areas that we otherwise would not have been able to visit, notably the beautiful beaches. One important note: be aware that scooters are not rented with a full tank of petrol and you'll need to fill up straight away, after collection - a piece of information that we found out the hard way!

Andrew and Maria were wonderful hosts and we had a relaxing five day visit. I would absolutely recommend visiting Penghu and staying at Villa Romana - it was a wonderful trip and we are already wondering how soon we can get back!

Comfortable, Spacious Accommodation with Beautiful Sea Views

We stayed at Villa Romana for 2 days recently. Mrs An is very nice and friendly. She picked us up at the airport and offered to take us to one of the sightseeing spot right away. She also helped to book us the tour to Qimei Island and drove us to the harbor the next morning. Breakfast was big and lovely, with a combination of Taiwanese and Western styles. The house is set next to the ocean and very quiet. It may be a little to reach for those who cannot rent a motorcycle like us. But cab is very cheap there anyway. The room itself is spacious and nicely decorated. The only thing if I want to complain is about the AC unit in the room. The AC unit did not seem to work efficiently for that big size of a room unless you turn it on for long enough. The first night we were there, it was quite hot. I told Mrs An and she turned the AC on while we were still outside the next day and it was much better in the night. On the other hand, it is usually very hot and humid in Penghu, especially in summer time. Local people there are very used to the heat, and you will find that they don't rely on AC that much. So if you are going in mid summer, you need to be prepared with the heat.
