I chose the package of one night stay + breakfast and dinner + aboriginal theater show. The package also includes one entry to the hot spring house at the main street (I'll explain more later). This package costs around NT$5000 for 2 adults and 1 baby (free for baby) via booking at their official website. To maximize this package, you should arrive the hotel around 3-4pm. Now, I'll evaluate/ explain all perspectives one by one:

1. Location: this hotel is indeed far from Wulai main street which has many eateries. From the metro station, we took a taxi, which took almost half hour. To go there, the taxi driver usually proposes a fixed price ride. I negotiated for NT$500.

2. Room: I took the basic room with western beds. You may consider taking more expensive suite which has Japanese tatami floor. I took a look at one tatami room on the way to the theater. The tatami room looks newer. But that's to say you will have to sleep on the "floor" (with duvet between you and tatami), which is harder than the mattress. Our room is indeed basic. Furniture is old style, but still functional. LCD TV, kettle (tea bags and instant coffee provided), and small fridge, like any other hotels in the city center. The room has a balcony with fabulous view of waterfall. Thus I made tea and coffee upon checking in the room. With accompany of pastries which I brought in, we enjoyed the view during tea time at the balcony.

3. Aboriginal show: We watched the show in the afternoon. Before the show started, they actors were in aboriginal costumes and walked around audience seats proposing you to take a photo with. Knowing that they would sell the photo at high price, we tried to refuse but didn't succeed. The show and the story is good overall, though not exceptional. The stage uses the Waterfall as background in the end, which is splendid. Indeed, while walking out of theater, each actor/ actress followed each set of guests and marketed the photo (there were not many guests so they took one-by-one approach). one photo costs NT$500.

4. Hot spring house at main street: after the show, they provided shuttle service taking us to the main street (the driver told us the pick-up time before leaving). We strolled the street first before heading to the hot spring house. The hot spring house is ok, but in the end of bath, it's not easy to get dressed as the floor was wet everywhere despite we tried not to splash the water (no curtain for shower area and the tiled floor is almost all flat).

5. Dinner: the serving time of dinner starts from 6pm (common in Taiwan), but it could be too early for foreigners. 7pm (your arrival to the restaurant) is the latest they could accept.  For us, 2 adults, they served us 1 soup and at least 5 dishes including vegetables and meat, with accompany of white rice. Tea is free as usually in Taiwan. I don't remember the exact number of dishes, but I remember we couldn't finish all the food. There was also fruit in the end. Food is fresh and 100% local style.

6. Bathroom: in the evening, we found that there was no hot water to wash face. We thought it was temporary problem. Since we had hot spring bath already, we didn't bother to call reception. In the next morning, the water remained cold and we realized why they offered hot spring house in the package. We were surprised by this finding as it's like cheating (Hot spring hotel doesn't have hot spring!?) It's really a shame as the bathroom has glass wall, which allows you to see waterfall during the bath. When I mentioned it to the manager-like man while check-out, he offered one more entrance to the hot spring house as compensation.

7. Breakfast: The breakfast was served at our table, again with view of waterfall. It's Chinese/ Taiwanese style, meaning congee (plein rice poridge) and condiments. To me a Chinese stomach, the breakfast is good. There were also steamed bums and fried eggs. My western hubby couldn't take it so he opted for the bread and jam on the self-service area (I don't call it buffet as there was no buffet).  

8. Return: we originally planned to have a walk in the forest resort in the morning, but we had to give up this idea due to the rain. Instead, after check-out, we headed to the bus stop at the main street with free shuttle service provided by hotel. The bus is much cheaper than the taxi, NT$30 per person for the journey to metro station.

Sum: their location is unique facing the waterfall, though it's not convenient for people who want to explore more during the night, which is trade-off. I put Very Good for location as night market is not our interest. Considering the bathroom without hot water, I put Poor for Value and Average for Rooms (waterfall view at bath if there's hot water). Staff are always polite and helpful. 

Will I go back? hmmm.....not at NT$5000 if they don't renovate the facility.

Great view on Wulai waterfall, and that's it

Pros:
The hotel location is definitely the selling point. It is right in front of the Wulai waterfall and our room balcony had a perfect view. The dinner was decent located on the 2nd floor of a connected building. There is a big stage where you can watch shows which we did. It is a 20 min walk from the night market area which isn't too bad.

Cons:
Where do I start. First of all, this place is straight up filthy and old. Room has a lot of broken accessories such as window curtain and shower curtain. The bathtub looks absolutely disgusting so we didn't even try the onsen. The toothbrush looks used and it's actually not sealed. There is a dead fly in the closet with a spare blanket placed on the dirty floor. The blanket on the bed has numerous old blood stains so we were forced to sleep with our coats on and had to use our hoods too because we don't trust the pillows either after seeing all this. The breakfast was rather weak because it doesn't seem fresh. All this for at least $5,000 TWD.

Conclusion:
Avoid until they fire whoever is in charge of the place. Old is okay, filthy is not. Definitely when it's prized between $5,000 to $1X,000.

Great Location But Filthy & Old

Stayed there on a Wednesday night and probably because it was a weekday so there was hardly any guest except one tour group.  Our 4-person room is huge with two queen bed and a balcony that faces that Wulai Fall.  The direct view of the Wulai Fall is the best that this room has to offer.  Upon entering the room, we were overwhelmed by a strong moldy smell.  The room is in desperate need of refurbishment.  It looks so dated and the bathroom is in a terrible state with moldy spots everywhere.  Spring water is supplied in the room so you can have a soak in hot spring water in the bathtub.  

Breakfast is served from 8.30 to 9.30 or 10am.  We reached the restaurant around 8.45am and there was no food left at the buffet.  The tour group arrived there earlier and finished most of the food.  I asked the waiter if the food would be replenished and the waiter (there was only one) went to check with the kitchen.  We waited for a long while and nothing came out so we resigned to getting plain toasts with jam.  Then to our surprise the waiter brought us a plate of fried eggs.  It was quite amusing to see such a big plate of fried eggs just for the 4 of us.  When we were finishing our breakfast, the waiter brought us a bowl of freshly prepared chicken nuggets.  Despite the poor buffet breakfast, we do appreciate the efforts made by the only waiter and the kitchen staff for preparing the eggs and chicken nuggets especially for us.  Actually with so few guests, why not they just serve a la carte breakfast intsead of buffet breakfast?  By the way, the restaurant didn't look very clean.  The table cloth was torn and stained.

This hotel is right at the foot of the Wulai Fall and right next to the cable car station.  But apart from that, its location is really inconvenient as there is no food around it after dark.  We reached there around 6.30pm and we were told the hotel restaurant was the only choice we had unless we want to take a cab to the old street.  

So my advice is to stay away from this hotel unless it is refurbished.

Very old hotel, terrible buffet breakfast

Location: Located at Wulai, we took the train up and spend a night at this hotel. Minimum entertainment except for the waterfall scenery, cable car and couple of souvenirs stores. There are only 2 local eatery that close at 6:30pm if intention is to try local food other than eating at the hotel. Alternatively, taking a cab to the Wulai old street will offer more choice of food.
Room: The only complement about the room is the bathtub which can be fill with hot spring water is facing direct view of the waterfall. (don't take the room at the extreme end as the bathroom is block by wall without any view) The room is pretty old with aging spot at bathroom, bed sheet, even the vacuum flask. The room seriously need to be refurbish.
Service: The hotel was quiet, perhaps we were there during weekday. The breakfast was served immediately when we arrived. As there wasn't many guest, service was ok. Food was limited with local Chinese food (porridge, egg, vegetable) other than bread and buns.

If not for the train ride and the hot spring, we most probably won't stay at this hotel. Unless the hotel undergo a major re-ramp, give this hotel a miss.

Old hotel with hot spring reputation

Checked in to suite spa 216 with my family. The room came with a karaoke system and the remote control has chinese characters which we are not familiar with, called reception for assistance but they were very reluctant to help.
Room came with buffet breakfast, but it was the worst breakfast that we ever come across from all of our travels.
