Quite an interesting history as it was used by Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek to greet and house visiting dignitaries back in the day.

The place looks grand but some of the rooms are basic and also  need upgrading.  The size is okay and the beds are comfortable but our bathroom had some issues like water having difficulty flowing.

The grounds are quite vast.  The restaurant is located down some steps and meals are catered.  The dinner was nice but breakfast was a little bleak.

There is a Family Mart nearby in case you want to buy some snacks or beers.

Grand Grounds With History

We were upgraded in a family room with charming terrace. Chinese style is successful but the hotel could be cleaner. Problems with the noise but helpful staff. Beautiful path around. Li shan is a nice village in the mountain with a stunning view on the green valleys. 

Typical hotel

This hotel was built in 1959 located right in the middle of Li Shan (aka Pear Mountain). It is one of three traditional Chinese Palace style hotels in Taiwan, designed by the same architect Mr. Yang. The hotel was one of Chiang Kai Sheik's favorites where he used to greet foreign visitors. I stayed in the hotel in February this year when it was filled with cherry blossoms. I would rate the hotel facilities 3-star quality, however I enjoyed the fresh air with beautiful flowers, pear trees and lovely birds. In particular, the hotel restaurant serves delicious home grown vegetables such as cabbages, pears, apples and Li Shan tea. If you like nature, if you want to experience oriental palace style hotels, this is definitely your choice when taking vacation in Taiwan.

During our stay at the Lishan guest house we stayed at the old building. They gave us the worse room which was near the entrance with lots of noise. In the room self there were many bugs and humidity spots on the walls. 
There is no wifi in the rooms of the old building either.
On top of that I got sick of food poisioning in their dirty restaurant and still they were questioning me if I was entirely sure about that...
I would not recommend anyone to stay at this place and only visit the buildings which is allowed. There is another hotel up Lishan which the locals give better reviews.

Historical setting up in the mountain, beautiful exterior, one less star for not decent breakfast.

Ambience: Located amidst the clouds in a surreal setting. The guesthouse was built by C.K.S . It was designed by the same architect, Yang Cho-cheng (楊卓成), who designed the Grand Hotel in Taipei City, in 1965. This hotel used to be the dwelling house of the late president, Chiang Kai-Shek (蔣介石), when he visited Lishan together with his wife. The views are amazing and the road to Lishan are breathtaking. 
Tours are available and nice walks in the premise. 

Room:  pristine and clean. Beds are on the hard side, just like most Asian beds. The first floor doesn't have a view out of the window. Towels are thin, and some toiletries provided. Not any outstanding or eye catching decorations. 

Service: great service although not sure if they speak english. 

Breakfast: mostly Asian. Salads, noodle, vegetarian dishes to have with the porridge.

Clean, beautiful natural setting, historical guesthouse.

Rooms are quite new and really nice and comfortable. Fantastic view from the balcony. Very friendly staff. Dinner was included and it was so good, kind of a fondue and really enough to eat. We stayed there only for one night while our bicycle trip through Taiwan and we enjoyed the stay
