The Crystal Resort Sun Moon Lake Mini-Hotel

There's limited selection of hotels at Sun Moon Lake particularly certain price points. The Fleur De Chine is probably the best around but runs close to $400-$500/night. We chose this due to the mid price range (under $200/night). We booked 2 nights (VIP sun room) for family of 3. When entering, we did not realize that children were charged additionally (they consider anyone over 140cm  to not be a child), and then added NT 500/night fee for "cleaning fees". Despite arguing with them about the additional fees and not being clearly stated ("additional fees") is all that is listed on the website, we were unable to get any progress with this. Be careful with these charges. This is an upcharge and as in most places in Taiwan, there is very limited flexibility. If you have children, do realize unless they are tiny/small, you'll get charged. The room was to be offered with a bottle of wine but did not come and only an apple sparking cider was given.

The room was dated, appeared to be in the '90s, the view and location is probably its best attributes. they included a breakfast (with this package). Beds were ok, bathroom was fine and functional. This is not 5 star hotel if that's what you're expecting - would say it would be a 2-3 star hotel in the US.

Also, of note there is another hotel part of this same group - that is more lower end which can get confusing (Crystal Inn) - it's probably hostel like based on the descriptions.

Would i stay again? probably not. the first impression was not the best, would have wished for better details on the fees. If you want good location, this is literally on the lake so can't argue with that. If you're looking for a true 5 star experience, Fleur Du Chine is probably the place to go - it's amazing but comes with a $$ tag.

Average, Dated, not Quaint, beware of additional charges

We very much enjoyed our stay here.  Breakfast was very good, the staff friendly, and the area is a great place to stay on Sun Moon Lake.  When we visited, tourism was way down due to Covid 19.  We felt the hotel had all the needed safety protocols in place, and did not let the lack of guests reduce their level of service.  It was everything we expect from a highly rated hotel.

The village of Ita Thao has a lot of indigenous charm, and nearby attractions like the Culture Park and Gondola are worth a visit.  There is some construction on the waterfront currently.

Great hotel, great area

Our favorite hotel over a two-week visit to Taiwan.  We loved the suites with the jetted tub, swivel tv, large windows and beautiful breakfast room overlooking the lake.  The location was perfect for us as we don't like the crush of loud people and tour groups.  Tip:  It is unclear how to get across the lake when you arrive on the bus with your luggage but we bought the lake pass and took the ferry across.

Excellent hotel, great service and views

The Crystal Inn is located in Ita-Thao with 800 m distance to the rope way of Sun-Moon Lake. The price is reasonable, comfortable although there is no view for the window and the entrance is shared with a drink shop.  However, the helpful staffs provide useful information and the hotel provides cruise day ticket with very good discount and the breakfast is good. 

遊覽日月潭及九族文化村的好地方A Good place to stay for exploring Sun-Moon Lake and Aboriginal Cultural Village

Stayed here for one night - which in my opinion is good enough for sun moon lake. Great location - viewing the lake - nice staff and good breakfast. Very recommendable.

As for food keep in mind that everything shuts down around 19h so be prepared.

Great hotel

The room was clean, and my kids loved the bathtub. It is also just right next to the night market - though the entire in general is very small - just 1.5 streets of food/ shops which close before 8pm. So the DVD rental was very useful in helping keeping the family entertained at night. The view of the lake at the breakfast area is beautiful.

Clean property with awesome view of the lake

So we like 4-5 star hotels but the 2 hotels that we really liked around Sun Moon Like but they were way out of our price range unfortunately so we settled with The Crystal, a fine looking 4-star property. 

Our room is amazingly spacious with an outside terrace. The staff is friendly and very helping. But don't be fooled by the hotels 'we are part of luxury hotels' website. It looks a lot different in real like then shown. Although it is perfectly fine, do not expect a luxury property. It is outdated, bit run down 3-star hotel at best. 

One scary lift, not a real bar, restaurant closed, breakfast is meh, observervation deck is a joke, room decoration is outdated etc. I do not mind all this, but expectations looking at the website were a lot higher, so that leaves you disappointed.

Staff is polite but the whole hotel needs a major upgrade to make it a 4-star hotel.

Hmmm '80's luxury?

I came to this hotel with my father. It is certainly very well located (although our room has no view of the lake), but the serious lack of professionalism of the staff is very embarrassing. My father being a vegetarian, we had ordered a special meal for him, which they obviously forgot. So my father went to buy fruit outside and came back (since the menu is prepared in advance, they only served meat to my father). And to apologize they gave him a tiny plate of fruit made almost exclusively of pomegranate (to eat).

Very unhelpful staff

The Crystal Resort (not to be confused with the Chrystal Inn) is located south of the SML at Pier Ita Thao. The cable car can be reached on foot from here. The hotel itself initially makes a comparatively high-quality impression, but at the second glance it is worn out.

Previously on Luxury Hotel

The hotel is in an excellent position. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel's standard is high. The staff speaks English and breakfast is decent even if you are European.
