To friends , who intend to stay over sun moon lake ... Warning do not stay at Naluisand House ... No receptionist all times, sold me a ticket to formosan aboriginal culture village at the cost of 850 . When I gave her 1000 , she was on phone. No change given, I thought she forget. She just left after my check in ... The next day , just happen to check thing out from visitors center. Realizing that the ticket cost is only 580 and the ticket is not to be sell .... The visitor center crews are so friendly, they brought me back to the hostel and reason out with the boss Eva . Though she returned me the money, but can see from her face 'Black' . I also don't want to fuss up cause I still gonna stay for 2 nights...

Don't stay

Arrived at hostel. Nobody there. Went by myself upstairs. Found a girl with headphones, no wonder she didn't hear me. Asked for the room. She didn't speak English, she called the owner. A over acting girl, Eva, checked us in. Discussion over the reservation and the original price. At the end, we got it our way. Room at first sight ok. Soon, a very bad smell came out of the bathroom. The shower sink gave a very bad stench. We fixed it by placing wet toilet paper over it. At night, a lot of noise. Above us, continuous knocking. But no rooms above us. We think it came from the sun boiler, placed on the roof. Each time somebody opens a tab, the knocking begins. Very thin walls. You hear everything from your neighbors. Breakfast included, but it's traditional Chinese. Rice porridge, peanuts, bamboo, shredded grinded pork. But not seasoned at all. Nothing else available. When we asked to switch rooms to a lower level, the girl that was in the house couldn't take a decision. And the owner, Eva, is never at this place. We asked the girl to contact Eva and switch rooms. Eva was at that time, 9:30am, not to be disturbed for sleeping reasons. When we came back in the afternoon we couldn't find or reach anyone and the other rooms were already taken. Not the right way to treat your customers. We stayed the night (because paid) but got the hell out of there the next morning. If Eva wants to get out of business, she's doing a very good job to get there. There are so many other good places to stay around Sun Moon Lake, find a better one. 

To avoid

When we arrived there was nobody at reception.  We had to go to the next door restaurant and ask to call the owner.  When she arrived,  she was yelling at us and telling we had to pay immediately even before we saw the room. She also said we would move after one night to a room without private bathroom????? We never asked for that! The cleaning lady brought us to the room without any explanation. After a while there was a very bad smell coming from the bathroom. When we wanted to change the room, the owner was gone and nobody could help us. My husband fixed it by putting wet tissues over the drains of the shower. During the night there was so much noise from the heating system on the roof, we were woken up several times! ! The next morning we demanded another room but no owner to be seen nor heard because she was still sleeping and could not be disturbed???!! Very bad service. Breakfast is terrible. The walls are so thin you can her people breath ! ! We checked out to another hotel and would never recommend this hostel to anyone. Not worth your money!! Stay away.

Worst hostel in Taiwan

This is a very funny hostel. I arrived to Sun Moon Lake in around 10 PM. No one in receptionist, so I had to knock other people's room to ask, and a bunch of teenagers told me that no one will help you for check in, you can either take any rooms you want, or call the owner.
Since I had no local numbers, I actually a bit panicked, but then found a phone near reception desk and use it to call the owner. She did not seems surprised that I called her from her phone and tell me that she will come soon.
In a moment, she came with a purse contain of TV remote, AC remote and key to my room. Then she said I just need to leave the purse in the table when I'm going to check out.
The reception actually had a TV and some souvenirs, but they never locked the door -- which is neither good or bad, just funny because they didn't afraid someone going to rob them.
In overall, room is decent, clean, and the location is the best (in Ita Thao, biggest village in the lake and only 5 mins walk to lake). But mostly everyone who stays there are local teenagers on their break. So it was good for solo travelers or youngsters, but definitely no for family with young children or elders.
