We booked "La Madrague" looking for something special and authentic. We also hoped for a peaceful place, that nevertheless offers lots of things to do during day. "La Madrague" overfullfilled our highest hopes. Jacques and Tee were super nice and totally supportive. The wooden house is just gorgeous, with its beautiful furniture and all the flowers. The cat is cute and well behaved. We could use a kayak directly as of the terrace.
Located at a side arm of the pier, the place is not affected by tourist groups (which anyway just show up in the morning and evening, when the boats leave and return). Many nice restaurants are right near. Klongsai beach is not far (especially by kayak). 
The place is special and we felt special with the hospitality offered.

Perfect place, great stay

This little hidden treasure on the pier in Bang Bao is nothing but excellent. The host are super friendly, the views extraordinary and the room (only one room up for rent) is super cosy. I would definetly recommend La Madrague if you are looking for something special during your stay at Koh Chang.

Très magnifique

If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful and friendly accomodation on Koh Chang, La Madrague is a very good option. The rooms are very nicely furnished and the wooden veranda full of plants and view to the sea is such a relaxing place! Jaques and Tee, the french manager and staff, are very friendly. We had breakfast there, fruitsalad, fresh fruit juice, toast, butter jam - and great coffee! The nearby seafood restaurants on the pier are a good option for dinner and there are some food stalls as well (good pancakes in the evening).  At half an hour walking distance, there is a nice beach with some restaurants and the possiblility to rent Kayaks.

great place

After four weeks in Southeast Asia we spend our last four days at La Madrague. It's a wonderful place. Our host welcomed us as friends and right away made us feel at home. I have never stayed at a more peaceful and relaxing place. The rooms are nicely decorated and spotless. Having said that, there is one complaint: the pictures here and on La Madrague's website don't do the place justice. It's just so much more beautiful. Highly recommended.

An Oasis

First of all - I booked this hotel expecting something unusual, but also feeling bit uncertain what type of place I will find in reality. Located on a pier with the shops, restaurants and other hotels doesn't sound like the quiet and relaxing place.
But our November (second half) stay was so perfect and peaceful that I cannot add more. All photos and reviews are true - this place is really very unique - old Thai house from the teak wood, beautifully refurbished with a great sense for the detail.  We felt really happy to be there.
If you have a tight travel budget, you can find lots of other places around the island. However here one can spend few days and remember the enjoyment forever.  The hospitality of Jacques and others, including  two cats living there, made our stay like at home.  
We were booking our stay in advance and when we changed our travel plans, arriving from Siem Reap 2 days sooner, the owner, Jacques was very helpful to accommodate us. Actually the hotel has got only two rooms - that's another uniqueness. In the end we stayed one more night and if we could, we would stay two weeks easily. We were swimming and sunbathing (at the beaches around) and snorkelling (using boat trips from the pier), visiting elephant farm and dinning and shopping at the pier - very convenient.
The pier itself was very quiet - only around 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. there has been traffic of tourist groups boarding the daily ship trips, otherwise it was really calm. Would I get back if on travel to Ko Chang again? Surely, yes!

Excellent and very special place

This place is wonderful, charming and peaceful.  I like the nice little gardens and the beautiful lake, a site of peace, a perfect place to stay for a short while. not so recommendable for longer stay.  I enjoyed my stay here.  I have been welcome as a friend, I lived like a member of the family,
