Ban Thanyanan Resort

On doing some research before my month backpacking in Thailand I read about Khanom being a secret little gem that few tourists add to their list when visiting. It was just the place I had been looking for and didn’t know at what point I would go there but knew I wanted to visit. I found Ban Thanyanan on air bnb before leaving UK so added it to my wish list. The price per night was not much more than some hostels I stayed at. I travelled from Surat Thani by minivan to Khanom. They dropped me in Khanom town. I messaged Thanya to say I had arrived and how did she recommend I get there. She told me to stay where I was and she picked me up. My room was perfect, so clean, spacious and had all the luxuries of any hotel room. The bed was the most comfortable I slept in Thailand, lovely linen, fresh towels, beach towel, en-suite with good shower, lockable wardrobes, air conditioning, flat screen tv, large fridge, kettle with tea and coffee sachets, biscuits and a two seater sofa and table. Each unit had an outside seating area and a clothes airer to dry your clothes. There is a communal swimming pool with several sun loungers and several seating areas in shade and sun. There are bikes you can use if available and Thanyanan can arrange for scooter hire. The beach is just a five minute stroll from the property, taking you to the middle of the beach. I walked both ways during my stay. 5 km in one direction, 4.5 km the other. I passed one other couple on my first day and no one until I passed a couple of beachfront hotels the other direction. There was a lot of litter in the foliage in places if you looked for it but the sand itself was clean, surprisingly as it is not cleaned daily by anyone. But it was a beautiful unspoilt beach to myself, almost, which was truly amazing. On asking Thanya if she knew of the pink dolphin tour with Mr Lee she said she knew him well and would call to see when he could book me on next tour. I went the following day. Being Valentine’s Day there was a beautiful card and sticky rice and mango waiting for me as I opened my door. It was a lovely touch. Thanyanan would check on her guests morning and evening to make sure they were happy. On asking about arranging my journey to Donsak ferry port she offered to take me in her car for less than a taxi would charge me. There were several guests staying long term here for 2, 3 and 4 months. They had scooters which all looked brand new. I was very envious of them and would have loved to stay here for a much longer period to explore the area more but when I return I will do this and defiantly stay here.
