we went there with my boyfriend and fell in love with the place... if you're looking for a  quiet place, with the best view ever on the sunset, feeling like robinson Crusoe, go there... we tried many places on the island, and we defenitly found our home their...With a bike, it's easy to reach all the parts of this wonderful island, and the owner is absolutly wonderful!! thanks to him again...

Stayed here for one week over the full moon period.

Pros - good location, walking distance to Jungle Jam & Half Moon festivals, 5km from Haad Rin beach; stunning views; fridge; amazing restaurant (biggest portions I had), 300B/night, 600/night during FM

Cons - best you have a bike/scooter to get around - taxis overcharge; 10-15mins walk to 7/11,etc; 100 steps to your room; wifi iffy

We stayed for the full moon party, and for the price it was what was expected. It was a little hut up a pretty big hill (prepare to get fit and fast!) , wooden with slight holes, so expect to see some of the jungles animals and bugs, especially some pretty big lizards! 

Pros - amazing family hosts, very friendly atmosphere, secluded and quiet, great view, great experience, easy to get to and around by scooter

Cons - could be cleaner but due to the type of hut I'm not sure how clean they can get it with stuff blowing in, water was a bit iffy, as well as the wifi not reaching the rooms majority of the time, taxis not dropping you near the place if they know it at all. 

Ps. If you're coming back late at night by taxi I would pay the extra for them to drive you up to the place. There are a lot of stray dogs and at 5am after the full moon we very closely got attacked by a few different packs of dogs - good job we had previously made friends with a little black and beige dog who literally saved us!! 

Good stay for the outdoorsy type! 

The room itself is pretty bare bones - a bed, fan and mini fridge. The bathroom was disgusting, but that's pretty standard for SE Asia. My friend and I stayed here during the Full Moon Party so we weren't being too picky. The views from the balcony were beautiful, but you have to climb about a hundred very steep stairs to get to the bungalows. Another downside is that taxis have no idea where this place is, so we got dropped off at the main road and had to walk into the woods to find this place. We ended up renting a motorbike from a friend of the owner which worked out great and the location was actually pretty convenient for getting to the parties. Overall, this place suited our needs, but wasn't anything special.

Nice view and helpful staff, but below average room

Firstly, I would like to point out that neither me nor my girlfriend are fussy travellers, having stayed in many far from glamorous hostels. Yet the secret hut bungalows was by far and away the worst accommodation we experienced during our 42 day trip of Thailand and Cambodia. For a start, the location was abysmal, costing us easily the difference between an expensive hostel in just getting there and back daily if we wanted to venture out both day and evening. Not using a taxi is simply not an option and many taxi drivers could not even find it. This could well be compensated for if the bungalows were of high quality, unfortunately this was far from the case. This was the exact scenario you hear about in south East Asia and hope you never experience. On arrival we were pointed to our hut, and shining the torch under the bed revealed several cockroaches who scurried off into the inside of the bed frame... This was amongst a thick carpet of rubbish under the bed and general grime that covered the floor and every surface. We asked for the bungalow to be thoroughly cleaned (the owners reaction to this question made me skeptical as to whether he even had cleaners employed). Instead we were switched to another hut that was marginally less dirty, but still littered with cans under the bed and a very sticky floor that got your feet dirty as soon as you got out the shower. The toilet had no soap or toilet roll (owner feigned to have no idea what soap was when we asked). With the local insect population proudly displayed throughout the rotting wood of the hut and across the walls, (watching the wood mites scurrying across the wall above our bed in their hundreds was actually quite interesting once you got used to them). The door could be knocked down with a nudge, wouldn't worry about this though as no one would venture 20 minutes uphill into the jungle to find this place. Bearing in mind this was at full moon, the stairs to the huts were an accident waiting to happen being steep and uneven with no rail to hold. I can't stress enough that we are easy going people, and this is the first review I have written in my life, due to it nearly ruining our full moon experience/ stay on koh phangan. We would have left immediately if we had not naively paid four nights upfront. The overall room was probably 4 metres by 3 metres with a huge bed that covered 70% of the room. The bed linen was an unwashable pink rag with a few plethora of stains here and there. Despite this damning review, I still do not feel I have done justice in describing how abhorrent this place is. Just a general write off as a place. Keep clear.
