I followed someone else to this hostel that I met on the ferry over as I didn't have anywhere booked for the night and grabbed a dorm for 650 bhat which was one of the most I paid anywhere in Thailand aside from Koh Phangan during the Full-Moon season. 

We arrived around 9pm-ish and they hadn't made the beds for us yet (for me I could understand as I turned up unannounced but the girl I was with had booked in advance and hers wasn't made either). The hostel just seemed badly organised overall - the lockers were really flimsy (they were just cupboards with hooks attached to put your lock on) and the showers were also pretty bad - all electric but none of them worked so cold shower it was! (I tried both the girls and boys as they are all in the same area). The dorms were clean however, and there is a pool which we ended up swimming in after a night out at like 3am undisturbed (which was nice!). Also, the Wi-Fi only worked in the lobby, you couldn't get a connection in the dorm itself.

I'd avoid this place if you can help it - you can get something much better for much cheaper (like half the price) but I was only staying for 2 nights so decided to stay put.

Hotel grounds are nice but dorms to be avoided (esp. at this cost!)

ing 650tb a night for a bed in an 8 bedded dorm room I was expecting to be staying in a relatively nice place. It turned out to be the opposite. After reading a few negative reviews I decided to ignore them and check this place out myself,  as the hostel I orginally wanted to stay at was full booked. When booking this accommodation I received an email confirmation stating that someone would be at the pier from the hotel to pick me up and take me to Nomads. It also specified that if noone was there, to call the number given. I arrived at the pier and waited around long after all other passengers had left and still noone was there to pick me up. I then rang the number given, of which nobody answered. So I had to pay for a taxi to take me to Nomads Coral Grand which cost much more as I was by myself. I finally arrived and was shown to my room, and had to wait for my bed to be made up.Overall the rooms and bathrooms were pretty dirty. On one occasion I had to wait for a cleaner to finish having her shower before I could get one. And even then the shower was flooded and inches deep in her mucky water. There were 2 showers for females, however one shower cubicle did not have a working lightbulb therefore you would have to take a shower in the dark.  The showers were also rife with mosquitoes; not a pleasant experience at all. Most other people staying in the dorm were doing diving courses, therefore were out most of the day and shattered for most of the night. After a 2 night stay here I was over the moon to eventually be leaving and moving elsewhere. Although Nomads is in a good location and the beach is beatiful, you can definitely get cheaper and much cleaner accommodation elsewhere.

Coral Grand Dive School, is exceptionally good - friendly, professional, and it has a classroom on the beach. Free accommodation is offered with the dive courses, and I would advise going for the fan room over the AC dorm, even in the heat as the dorm is pretty awful. In the four days we stayed, our towels weren't changed, the bin wasn't emptied, and brushing the floors involved sweeping the dirt to a corner. The toilets/shower area was always dirty and it smelled pretty awful (which then also made the room smell..). The AC in the dorm adjacent to ours was broken, and there was difficulty in getting the staff engaged at all to begin fixing it. Thankfully we were diving all day every day, and so there was little time to be in the dorm. However, if you're not diving, you will have to pay for something that is absolutely not worth its cost. If you're on Koh Tao to enjoy the beautiful beaches, I would stay somewhere else along the beach or pay the extra for a private rooms which seem to be treated a lot better on this resort.

Unless diving, dorm room accommodation to be avoided

I arrived on Koh Tao after the full moon party with no accommodation booked. This place appeared fully booked online but when I arrived they had space for me. Clean dorms with a/c. Each bed had a curtain, reading light and locker (bring your own lock). There is free wifi although connection in the dorms isn't so good but works well in the reception area. The dorm was spacious enough and the shared bathrooms were clean with good shower pressure. The dorms share the grounds with Coral Grand Resort so you are right by the beach and you get to use the pool. I really liked it here. The beachfront was nicer than other places to stay. May be a little pricey but a good option for a solo traveller.

I was here over the Christmas period 2012 with 7 of my friends - all aged mid twenties. Having been to Koh Tao before we knew what to expect but Nomads exceeded our expectations, great welcoming, easy check in with friendly staff. Close enough to the buzz of the island and far enough away to get some quiet if you wanted. We had an 8 bed bunaglow which was amazing, high ceiling with a tree growing out of the room, very spacious with 2 bathrooms and good working air con. We did have some visitors now and then, Mozzies & lizards but that's Thailand for you! They have a massive pool, although hotel was full it was never over loaded with peole and just has such a nice feeling about it. Walk out of the hotel and you are on the beach, the restaurant attached to the dive centre is cheap and had great quality food.
