Arrival onto the island at dusk chasing the sunsets was the highlight of this 8 day trip that lasted just one day. On arrival you are met with welcome drinks and then allocated to your room with a casual “watch out for the construction site” a red flag moment. The room allocated was right next to the construction site. It was night time and many other beachfront villas were empty as there were no lights on, but this was the room I was allocated.  Back to reception to ask for a change of room but nothing was available despite there being no one in any of the adjoining rooms. We were told to stay in the room over night and we will look again in the morning. Back at the room the pillow cases were soiled with make up, had they been changed? A call to reception and a staff member promptly brought over sone new linen. Tried to take a shower in the room  but there was no hot water I suspect the attached heater that was outside had not been working. Off to eat dinner but the menu is limited with western and Thai choices.  Staying here 8 days would have meant venturing down to the other resorts to find some variety. 
Morning arrived and off to breakfast billed as complementary, for a reason. Not much choice or anyone to make something other than an omelette which was smothered in cooking oil. I asked if I could have two poached eggs and was told no. 
We waited at our table for someone at reception to come and chat with us about our room but no one bothered. We went to ask and were told that there was very little available and that the next resort they had been called to see if we could go there but there was nothing free. I visited the next resort who had rooms. 
We decide there was no alternative but to leave the resort get a boat back to the mainland then at 3.5 hour taxi drive to Krabi. With limited internet access this was difficult be we managed it with both of us working on it. Just before we arranged an alternative resort and place in south Thailand we were offered another room away from the construction site. It was the same room had running hot water but we were still looking at alternatives snd so the room was quickly given to a new couple who had arrived. Where would the new couple have been allocated if we had taken the room? So we had nothing. Just as we were about to leave another room was available but for only a few days. We paid 1400 bht for the boat back to the mainland and left. 
I asked for a refund of the accommodation and this arrived 14 days after my request. Please be aware the construction site was never explained to me in any of the emails I sent or line communication I had with Maki resort. It’s certainly not what the brochure suggests. Food choices are limited and breakfast is very average with limited choice and a chef who cannot do you a poached egg. Not my idea of a supposed paradise retreat. All payment for the accommodation was taken prior to arrival.  The whole feeling we had about the resort is they did not care about us just in the money you were paying to stay there which at 4000 bht a night was not the luxury experience I had hoped for.

Ohh boy, where to start...
Let's get the obvious out of the way first. Location was 11 out of 10. Secluded, white sandy beach, trees for a bit of shade when needed, and bungalow only 20-30 meters from the ocean at high tide.
Now to the part that pains me the most. Giving a bad review to kind people that means well.

Short version: Bungalow with huge gaps to the outside, and an underdimensioned airconditioning making the room super warm even at night. Plug in sink stuck. Sink drain leaking out on the floor. Spotlights in ceailing broken. Animal living above the sealing waking us at night. Limited options of food in the restaurant. You would order food, and 50% of the time only get half of it. Food never arriving at same time, so most of the time we were eating one at a time.

Long version:
We stayed in a Beachfront Superior Bungalow which on the outside seemed really nice, but on the inside had its flaws.
Some of the guys werehaving a look above the ceiling through a service hatch when we arrived, and we were not informed what that was about, so i suspect it might have been guests checking out reporting the same noise that we were reporting after the first night. Some animal was making a lot of noise waking us at night, and after multiple request for them figure out what is was and get rid of it, after night number 3 they found out it was a mouse identifying as a noisy elephant. They didn't manage to catch it, so it woke us up every night for all 5 nights we stayed there. We are usually fine with animal and nature noises, but given that this was under the roof and above the ceiling right over our heads when we were in bed, it was quite unpleasant.
The interior of the room was super random. Couch in one side, and above it a very nice decorative wall lamp, if it weren't for the fact that it didn't have any lightbulbs in it, and the plug and wire for it had been coiled up and hidden behind it. Speaking of lightbulbs, 2 spotlights in the ceiling was broken. In the middle of the room was a large bed hard as rock. Cabinet in one corner, desk with and oversized misplaced TV in the other corner. Above the desk sending "cold" air over on the cabinet was an under dimensioned airconditioning unit that couldn't cool the place down at all, given that the bungalow was full of gaps to the outside, and uninsulated (which is understandable, but then you need a better airconditioning unit)
The Toilet/Shower was large and spacious, but not cozy at all. Sink plug was broken, so the sink would fill up with water. Pulling the sink plug out reveals the sink drain leaking water out on the bathroom floor.
Breakfast was fine for us with fruits, juice, toast, loads of different cereal, egg-station and pancake station making them on demand. The lunch and dinner menu was limited in options, and the quality of the food nothing really to write home about, Most of the time you had to ask for the menu when seated, the food wouldn't be served at the same time, so most of the time we were dining one after the other, and 25% of the time some of what we ordered didn't arrive at all.
I have to say that they were very kind and smiling, but as for service goes, we didn't see much of that unfortunately.

At the end a small recommendation that has nothing to fo with Mali resort. 
The Island is beautiful, but there is no need to stay at Koh Kradan. Stay somewhere else and do a day-trip to the island. If you do choose to stay there overnight, then 2 nights are more than fine.

Mediocre housing and poor service with a smile 

Fabulous luxury accommodation on a beautiful beach, the snorkelling is outstanding. The breakfast was the best we had in Thailand with the most delicious cooked to order pancakes. The Kalume restaurant next door was excellent for pasta/pizza and the bar had a chilled vibe. 
If you want to stay on a paradise island with superb accommodation then pick Mali resort, you will not be disappointed. 

Paradise

Our family of four stayed here for 5 days, the beachfront bungalow was like a movie backdrop - it didn't seem real.  We felt like we were living in a dream.  Beds so comfortable, warm showers, privacy, attentive staff, so so quiet, snorkeling to our contents right off the resort and by the national park - which we did for hours each day.  No biting bugs!  The Thai food was some of the best we'd had the whole trip in Thailand.  Next time - we will stay longer!  Different tides are entirely different experiences.  At low tide - water shoes are a necessity & during that lowest hour, snorkeling off the resort not recommended b/c of the urchins.  We loved all the tides b/c the landscape changed.  Sunrise is a must see.  We will certainly return - only for longer!!

Dreamlike surreal paradise

Fantastic beach resort. Looked to us like the best of the bunch on a magical island. Early March weather was wonderful - sunny, light breeze, hot, no mosquitoes. If its calm, swim straight out of the hotel at high tide to avoid the 'lego' on the sand. Hot tip, if its choppy (and even if not), walk down the beach and turn right just before the pontoon, on through the jungle, 20 minutes to Sunset beach. Your own deserted tropical beach if you go in the morning as we did every day. Lovely sand there whatever the tide. Although breakfast was merely OK (though khao tom muu was very good), Mali has the best Thai food on the island and we had lunch every day and dinner one night. Also great cocktails. All of the rooms look great. We stayed in the snazzy one which was a treat. Staff are very nice but some could perhaps do with a bit of training?! Hotel arranges transfers. We arrived via Hat Yai and left via Trang. Dead easy. Book rooms and transfers with them direct. Other hot tips: Kalume next door restaurant food is yummy but small portions, cocktails seemed watery, apparently coffee is great there according to guests. Seven Seas hotel Thai food good but not as good as Mali, cocktails better but not Mali! Paradise lost restaurant on way to Sunset beach has truly amazing pistachio ice cream but their Thai food is bland and westernised. So stop for ice cream on way back from Sunset beach in the morning. Mrs B rarely likes doing anything twice. This will be an exception. We will be back!
