I visited last week with friends and knew it would be good but it superceded our expectations!
It's so beautiful and the team members are phenomenal ,I couldn't fault the place!

What made our experience even better was our guide Chai! He was fantastic, he chatted with us, taught us thai songs, shared his life stories and took us to his village! We all want to go back just so we can get another tour with him! 

The whole experience and what chai lai orchid does not only for its Elephants but its team, helping them with work, housing and an education is commendable! 

Make sure you visit and buy some T-shirts to help support the great work they do! 

Best Trip Ever 

Our tour guide Boy was amazing!! He was so knowledgeable and kind. The sanctuary was very special, they take amazing care of the elephants and are very welcoming. We were greeted by elephants in our rooms in the morning, server breakfast and did a long tour with Boy including learning more about their work and walking with the elephants, as well as jumping in the river and bathing the elephants. All the profits not only go to the sanctuary but also go to non profits that support women who have been a victim of human trafficking. They have a cute restaurant with amazing food & drinks, and great souvenirs. 10/10 recommend!!

Highlight of our trip

We had an amazing full day experience at Chai Lai with our guide Tip - who was really amazing, funny, kind & knowledgeable. Pick up & drop off in Chiang Mai made it an ideal day trip. We fed the elephants, did a jungle trek, washed them, had a BBQ lunch & then went bamboo rafting. The highlights of the day were definitely all the time with the elephants & enjoying the scenery.

Amazing time with elephants!

Our stay at Chai Lai Orchid was a dream come true! We had a magical two days and words are not enough to describe how amazing our whole experience was! Right from when you enter the premises- you feel this sense of calm and happiness. All the staff are extremely helpful and greet you with a big smile on their face. We entered at the time that ‘Elephant Happy Hour’ was on and we got to feed them and that itself made our day. 
The next morning we had breakfast room service with the elephants and also our shoot with James. Both went off extremely well and we had a blast. Charlie was our guide for the day and seeing the love the mahouts have for their elephants makes you believe in humanity all over again. 

Definitely not our last time there- we already cannot wait for the next visit!

Our Stay at Chai Lai

Love love loved our experience at Chai Lai Orchid! We did the half day tour, and for our vacation style it was just what we needed to visit an elephant sanctuary. Our tour guide, Tep, was very kind and all the staff were so helpful in assisting with taking photos/ answering questions/etc. it’s about an hour and a half drive outside of Chiang Mai, so just be aware. Transport/lunch was included in the price. Had a lot of fun, beautiful scenery! Would recommend to anyone looking for a half day excursion to see elephants!

Half Day Elephant Care Tour

This place is an immersive jungle experience and an absolute MUST if you are in Thailand. You will meet the most friendliest people and soak in some of the most beautiful scenery you’ve laid your eyes on. We stayed one night and really enjoyed all that Chai Lai had to offer. We also did the full day expedition tour and let me tell you, it will NOT disappoint. It had to be one of the best days I’ve had in the 2 weeks I’ve been traveling around Thailand. The highlight of it all was my amazing tour guide, Bow. I love you Bow!!

Best Experience!

Chai Lai Orchid is an unique and amazing experience. They do an incredible job taking care of the elephants and delivering a perfect service - comfortable and clean room, delicious food and friendly and helpful staff.
Boy was our guide with the elephants and he is amazing, explained everything and made our day ❤️Also Moon was very nice with us, he did beautiful nature arts during the hiking.

The best experience!!!

My guide Jackie chan was awesome! ! I had an amazing experience with the elephants. During my trek my guide Jackie Chan showed me lots of different plants  and explained the medical benefits of the plants.  I cut my foot during the trek and Jackie chan used one of the plants as an antiseptic to help and stop the bleeding. He also kept a regular check on me to ensure I was alright.  Jackie chan was very accommodating and made sure i got to see everything. I Would definitely recommend him.

Amazing!

I was picked up from my hotel in Chiang Mai, in a typical tourist truck. It took about an hour to get there.   Upon arrival, it was a bit chaotic, with no one actually sure of who had booked/paid, and who hadn't this caused some delays.  I had booked the 2 day/1 night experience,  so I was soon whisked off on a trek;  my guide was great.  We went up to the Karen Village and met some locals, went to a waterfall, and then bamboo rafting.  The overnight accommodation was right on the river (not where you check in), so when booking, be clear about where you want to stay.  By the river was naturally noisy with the flow of the river and quite a distance from the main resort.  Once darkness came, it felt quite isolated.  They delivered an evening meal of Pad Thai, which was very nice.  I stayed in a traditional bamboo hut with a lovely sized bed and mosquito net (it was needed).  The next morning, they delivered a breakfast of pancakes, yoghurt & fruit.  Then, one of the elephants came to my hut, and I was able to feed her her breakfast!  After that, we went for a trek through the jungle with a number of guides with their elephants,  it was great fun!  After that, we went down to the river, to bathe/wash the elephants, which again was so much fun.  All in, a fantastic experience - I would highly recommend it.  Just be sure what you are booking/have booked when you arrive to avoid any unnecessary confusion.

We booked Chai Lai Orchid for the elephant experience and were not disappointed.
The resort is remote, but Chai Lai organized our pick up from Chiang Mai airport and got us there safe and sound. Well organized, we were delayed but the pick up was there waiting for us.

Unfortunately we arrived too late for elephant happy hour so we missed the elephants walking around the first afternoon. We had some nice food outside at the restaurant accompanied by some nice drinks.

In the morning we were woken up by an elephant at our balcony (they ask you at what time you want the elephant wake up call), who we fed bananas and we got some info from Teb, one of the trainers. After the breakfast, we were taken on a hike by Tho (the Elephant Jungle Experience). We visited waterfalls, went for multiple swims, walked through the ‘jungle’ and Tho also cooked as a veggie soup with BBQ chicken and rice. So cool!
After lunch we walked back and were taken to a place where we got on a bamboo raft and were taken on the river for around 45min. Nice and chill, we even came by a mom elephant and her baby in the river, so cute! 
After the bamboo rafting we went back to Chai Lai where we visited two of the elephants to feed them, walk them to the river and then washed them there. So super cool!
We had the best time with Tho, he was an amazing tour guide and learned us a lot. Big thanks!!!

In the evening the weather turned and got pretty bad, so we asked the kitchen to bring some food to our hut and sat covered in the balcony in the rain. Which was lovely and chill.

In the morning the elephant came to visit again, and afterwards we had an organized taxi back to Chiang Mai. Again very well organized and on time.

It is good to realize that the huts are very basic. You sleep under a mosquito net and everything is open. No cupboards, no luxury, just a bamboo hut with a bed and a very basic half-outside bathroom. We loved it, but be aware. Stray dogs everywhere but they are very kind and cute. The staff is nice and looks after you, so we totally loved it.
