Small and very basic (but very inexpensive) room. Very clean. Small double bed, table, AC, TV (didn't try it), cool shower. Could connect to the wifi but had no internet. Only one available power point in the room, and it was 4 feet off the ground - bring a long cable! Good sized car park. Friendly, welcoming staff - not sure if they spoke English, I didn't try. Location is just adjacent to the public market. Be aware that in this town although you can get food during the morning and daytime, dinner time is tougher. There seems to be only one restaurant nearby, and it was closed for a holiday. There's always 7-11...



Basic but Inexpensive

I arrived late in the evening and needed a place to sleep before visiting the Hin Dad Hot Springs the following day. While I had remembered reading about a different hotel in town that I was driving around trying to find, and also after having popped into a couple of other hotels in town where I couldn't even find their front office or anyone to serve me, I came upon Thongphaphum Place.
The girl at the counter wanted, from memory, 600 Baht a night. There were no credit card/EFT payment facilities at the hotel, but when it became apparent I had a bit of a cash shortage, the girl let me log on to the hotel's WiFi so I could book through Agoda. No problems, it all went through and I was assigned Room #8 upstairs. With the exchange rate the way it was, I think it worked out about $1 cheaper than paying cash, though I still thought this hotel should have been priced at 500 Baht a night for the level of comfort and amenity it offered.
Thongphaphum Place is located in a good central location, walking distance to the market and a 7/11 with an ATM out the front.
My room was very clean, and just like many other reviews comment, the toilet paper dispenser was outside the toilet - strange, but perhaps it's done so that the toilet paper doesn't get soaked when you're using the open shower.
Water pressure was fairly poor, the shower head had a funny filtration system which used small beads that were possibly made of rock. I carefully dismantled the shower head and cleaned it as the spray holes/jets were clogged up with some calcification. This fixed the poor water pressure, but obviously it was a bit annoying that in typical Thai fashion, preventative maintenance is not something that is considered by management and I had to do-it-myself!
The bed was fairly hard, and I wasn't asked whether I wanted a twin or double room. Other reviewers' photos show that there are twin rooms available, which is what I would have preferred on this occasion, but never mind!
The split system air conditioner in my room was a bit older so it rumbled a bit initially, but it seemed to become acceptably quiet after a little while.
The TV worked OK but had a poor selection of English channels. On one hand this is to be expected in a fairly obscure and small Thai town, but on the other hand if they use the Tripadvisor logo out the front of their property, then one could expect them to cater somewhat to Western tourists as well as locals.
While the hotel was pretty much your average cheap-ish Thai hotel, I have rated it 4 out of 5 stars because of the cleanliness, the generally friendly service (but yes, it helps to know a couple of words in Thai), the convenient location, and the fact that everything more or less worked. If I could, I'd give it 3.5 out of 5. It felt clean and new, but if I was to stay for longer I'd probably look for something a little better. Indeed an earlier review mentions a new riverfront resort and I believe this is Suanrimkwai Resort. I'd check them out if I was staying for longer, but for my one night stay, Thongphaphum Place was perfectly adequate, and reasonable value.

Clean, basic, close to market for A$21 a night

I gave this place a good review last November but I think for more than 1 or 2 nights there are better choices. Having just spent 6 nights, some of the less annoying short stay niggles become more annoying. No fridge being one. It's 38 outside. Fortunately I became well known in the adjacent 7/11. 

Worst however was the lackadaisical service or lack of it. The reception was sporadically manned by 2 young ladies who slept a lot. When woken, they were happy to give us water, towels and soap but at no point did they clean the room. 

Another niggle was when you put the TV off, you had to borrow the only remote control from reception to get it back on again. I got the feeling this annoyed the staff (not their fault) as much as us.

And the toilet paper is still in a dispenser outside the toilet.

All in all not great but the good news is that there is a lovely new resort 500 meters by the river for 200 B more a night.

This place is reasonably priced, it's very clean and everything works in the room, including Wifi.
The building must be of good quality: the room was cool also without the aircon.

Within 5 min walking there's a 7/11, a Market, a place where the make good coffee (just outside the 7/11) and normal town centre stuff like restaurants and so.

I stayed two nights. On the third night I had planned a trip to the North. When that didn't work out I went back, but they where full. Even so they let me use the internet and gave me an extension cable to plug in my old laptop.

Simlpy good

Thong Pha Phum is a very quiet town and we used this hotel en route further North. It is pretty new and very clean with aircon. All the rooms are small and have no real closet space, you need to hang things on what looks like a hat rack.

Staff friendly and smiley but no English but that proved not to be an issue.

We had one night in the only room with no en suite bathroom but we had a key to a bathroom on the landing just for our use, We moved the second night to an en suite room which was more convenient. 

Strangely (well, very strangely), in both rooms the toilet paper holders were OUTSIDE the bathrooms ??? Again no problem, but gave us a good laugh every time we had to pay a visit!

I reckon this is easily the best hotel in the non-touristy town. No breakfast but good old 7/11 next door and good cheap food in the market 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Very close to transport options too. Recommended.

Great place for a few nights. Very clean

This hotel is located several steps from market therefore there will be noisy in your room any time until 10p.m. and some times later. Good room with good amenities - bed, pillows,TV and etc. If your next place is Sangkhlaburi or Kanchanaburi and you want to go there by bus - it is your place to stay because bus stop and 7/11 store a few steps from the entrance of hotel.
Unfortunately the staff don't speak English
