Omer Hayyam is one of the worst places to stay in istanbul we couldnt go out at night because the area was so dangerous.. we got a cab from taksim to omer hayyam and every single taksi driver refused to take us there because it was dangerous and also theres a lot of hills.. We woke up every morning hearing fights outside the restaurant. Screaming, shouting and swearing of neighborhoods. One of the workers at the hotel called  'Mehmet' was very cheeky and he was not professional we asked him why they didnt put any photos of the street on the website and he replied '' if we did, you wouldnt of been here right now''!!! Ridiculous' However alper was a very nice young man who helped us.

Horrible..

First of all, I am not satisfied by my experience in this apartment. On the website it seems like this apartment is to die for, that it is an amazing place to stay. This in fact is a huge lie. When I arrived at the apartment I was gobsmacked, this was a gypsy area and a rough area. This is not stated on the website. All the taxi drivers refused to go there and most of them don't even know the location of the hotel. We struggled to come back to the apartment which made us spend a lot of money for transport. 
Secondly, the area is very hilly. I do understand that most places in Turkey is very hilly but I had my parents with me who are very old. We tried to speak with the manager but we couldn't even get hold of her, she shut the phone on our face, she was very tough and she refused to return our money. Not even half of the money (she's stingy and only cares about the money and not the customers.) 
However, but to be honest the staff were amazing. They were very helpful, they tried to do their best to make us happy and always were willing to help. The apartment was cleaned only twice during our 10 day stay and then the cleaner disappeared. The apartment itself from the inside was good. 
If they mentioned that the area was very bad and hilly then I wouldn't have booked this apartment as it is not suitable for families and old people. 
All I can say is that our holiday was ruined. We spent a lot of money on transport which we could've spent on something better.
My advice is to not book this apartment.

Very bad

I booked this place from the states and paid in advance for one week stay. Upon arriving to the hotel, I thought the taxi driver had wondered in a wrong area of the city and had mistaken the route.  Unfortunately, he was at the right place. This 'hotel' is in the GYPSY quarter of Taxim, Istanbul. The worst and most dangerous and dirty area.  We had to go to another hotel. The owner did not want to refund even a fraction of the week's payment she had pocketed even before we got there.
The worst experience and the most horrible place to stay.  DO NOT STAY THERE!!!

The most horrible pace

This Hotel was very clean and the staff were very kind and accomidating.  The area is not for the faint of heart but my husband and family felt very safe walking in the day or evening.  The first evening we arrived we were walking around and were invited into what seemed a wedding or celebration of some sort. The people were very kind. We ate from street venders and had no difficulties at all.  Even though you book this hotel as an apartment you get almost daily cleaning service with no extra charge. No bar or restaurant on site.

Wonderful Hotel in the Heart of Older Istanbul

We stayed at this hotel cause there was no availability for the last day of our stay in Juno Hotel which is really closeby.
The building is quite old, same than the neighborhood around, but the hotel is nice.
Forget about luxurious 5* hotels but this, still, is a luxury place is you compare it with the surroundings.
The neighborhood is crappy but safe and it is very close to Istiklal street. 20-25 min walking distance from Taksim square. Spare a little more if you are rolling your bags cause is all uphill in case you want to catch the Havatas shuttle bus to the airport, any of them.
The room is very well equipped with kitchen, microwave, stove and washing machine. The decoration is quite interesting in purple colors. The furniture is enoug. The toilet is quite ok an somehow modern. The reception staff is helpful.
