The room looks like in the pictures. Excellent location with easy access to Galata area cafes and shops, but off the main street. Very friendly and helpful but discreet host. The reservations worked smoothly. Unfortunately other reviewers were right about the noise from other rooms. Also the birds outdoors kept awake even my husband, who usually is a sound sleeper. The windows can't be very thick. Otherwise would have liked to return on our next visit, but unfortunately it is impossible, cause we would like to get some sleep next time, too.

Good location but only for sound sleepers

The appartment is situated only 5 minutes walking from the Galata-tower and still in a friendly, quiet and safe neighborhood. Around you will find some local shops and a few good places for breakfast. The appartment itself is well equiped. 
And the view.... wel the view.... Is indeed amazing. At daytime as well at night. Great to have breakfast with such a view! 
All in all we had a good time in Istanbul and would, although the appartment is a bit expensive, surely recommend to book this place. Thanks Ali!

We stayed in the ground floor apartment at Serdar-i Ekrem 59 for 8 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The apartment was located in one of the nicest parts of town, with the main street itself filled with interesting boutiques, cafes and restaurants. It was also well positioned for us to visit other neighbourhoods in Beyolgu, including Cihangir. The apartment itself was a good size for two people and had air conditioning, wifi and a safe. The building has a lot of character to it. Ali, the owner, was able to provide us with recommendations and assisted us in securing a dinner reservation. He was also responsive - we had a blackout one night and he ensured that the lights were soon restored! We would definitely recommend staying in one of these apartments - it provided us with an affordable and comfortable base from which to explore such an amazing city.

A well-located, comfortable apartment

In Early September, we had the pleasure of staying at Serdar-i Ekrem 59 for 5 nights.   

Serdar-i Ekrem 59 is ideally located in a residential yet lively up-and-coming neighborhood about 5 minutes' walk to Tunel, Istiklal Caddesi, and an even shorter walk to the Galata Tower.   There are numerous shops, cafes and restaurants nearby.  For us, it was the perfect location - close enough to where we wanted to be, yet quiet at night so we could get a good night's sleep.     

The Third Floor Suite is designed in a contemporary style, equipped with a kitchenette, fridge, comfortable seating, and a small yet thoroughly modern bath and shower.  We prefer to travel "light", and were offered the use of the washing machine, at no additional cost.  Having an elevator in the building is a definite plus.  The entire building is non-smoking. 

Ali is a particularly gracious and warm host.  He was available when needed, and made us feel welcome and comfortable throughout our stay.  Upon our arrival, he took the time to walk us around the local streets and through Istiklal Caddesi, giving us a sense of how to get around.  We ended up having tea together at a very nice cafe near Taksim Square.  One morning, we were invited to join Ali and his wife, Deniz, for a sumptuous breakfast one morning on the rooftop terrace at his other property.      

Having our home-base at Serdar-i Ekrem 59 was the ideal way to visit Istanbul.

Ideal Galata location, accommodation and warm hospitality

We stayed in August 2013, but I am only writing now, so the earliest the system let me put in was October 2013. 

The top floor has amazing views of the water and the Old City and the room has a lot of character and is very nice and quiet. The WiFi and climate control are excellent. The Manager, Zeynab, is also super helpful.

You don't get breakfast, but there are stores right down the street.

The main issue would be access. Taxis might now find it if they don't use their GPS and you have to walk up a big hill to get from the tram stop at Tophane or up a hill to get to the metro at Sishane. 

The Galata neighborhood is nice, with restaurants and stores and so on.

All in all, a very nice place!
