Lovely location, food basic but cooked to order and good portions .  Downside they clearly don’t like tourists if the banter at the bar was anythin* to go by.  Bad mouthing most nationalities , English in particular and if you have kids they language completely inappropriate.

Learnt new language

Stopped here for one night on our nc500 journey. 
The hotel does seem a bit dated at first but actually, it brings a more traditional feel especially when you're travelling in the rural highlands so don't let that put you off. The staff were all really friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was spacious and clean and the shower was very good. 
We also had an evening meal at the hotel, the food was of to a high standard with all ingredients being sourced locally. 
The breakfast in the morning was equally as good quality, there was a choice of cereals, fruit, toast and pastries and your cooked breakfast was made to order.
Definitely recommend a stay here on your nc500 journey.

Very good stay for nc500

The hotel is in an amazing setting looking out over the beautiful lock Ewe. It was a great base for us to go walking around the stunning hills that surround it. We enjoyed good food, nice homely rooms and great service throughout our stay 

Stunning location

Good stop along the NC500 route and room adequate. We were put in an accessible room which wasn’t a problem but sink and shower set-up were tailored for that. Evening meal was pleasant.

Left some designer swim shorts in the room and returned 30 mins after check out. The room had been cleaned and the shorts were missing. Asked staff and cleaner if they had seen but they said no. Upon returning home and unpacking, shorts are nowhere to be seen so must have been taken by staff. I emailed asking if anything had shown up but never got a reply. Very poor customer service and I can only assume they were taken when the room was tidied. So please make sure you keep an eye on your items and don’t leave anything behind as it will not be found!

Day six of our NC500 road trip.
Poolewe is a small place and really, this is the main hotel and I guess it's OK.
We arrived mid-afternoon and were shown to our 'family suite' in the adjacent building. This was really a two bedroomed apartment with lounge and bathroom - there is a kitchen but this was locked with a padlock! 
What can I say......?
The bedroom was cold and although the radiators worked in the other rooms, this one didn't. The bathroom was clean but old and the lounge had a TV with no remote and a very dirty sofa!
We played darts and pool in the bar and then had a very, very nice dinner in the same room. My gammon, egg and chips were fabulous and my wife's steak & ale pie very tasty!
We watched the Scotland v England match later and the result wasn't best for the locals!!
The staff were friendly and chatty - no complaints,
The bed wasn't great but we did sleep with full stomachs and a bottle of wine.
I told the manager as I checked-out that the owner needed to spend some money on the accommodation. He declined to comment but it's pretty obvious.
The food redeemed the experience.

Food and Bar are Decent.

Poolewe is a very small place so the hotel was remarkably busy. A small hotel but probably fully booked the night we were there. It is an old building and the inside was fated and a bit shabby. The welcome was warm and check in easy. No lift so we had to carry bags upstairs. Room was quite big but a strange shape, the bathroom was at the end and the door didn't close properly. The floors creaked and the furniture had seen better days - drawers didn't close properly etc. The internet/wifi was hit and miss at best. The dining room was quite busy but the service was good. However, it needed a good clean, eg dead flies on the window sills, spiders on the ceiling, windows needed washing. The food was tasty and plentiful. Breakfast was a fairly basic affair - the cooked option was good but little else available.
It was probably overpriced for what it was, but was the only accommodation in the village,as far as I could see.

Ok for a stopover

Disappointing stay at Poolewe, entire hotel needs updating. Our sea view room needed a deep clean- bath had ring of dirt round it, the bedding was ripped and needed binned, carpets were dirty and the toilet was disgusting. Housekeeping staff need trained.  Such a shame because the setting is beautiful, owners need to invest some money!

We stayed a couple of nights. The staff have clearly been working flat out, unable to recruit extra help, over the summer..... but despite this it was friendly, a pleasant place for a pint at the end of the day and a large though not very sophisticated meal. The room was good size, had a lovely view, and clean although a bit old fashioned. 
It seems grossly unfair that people have been giving it 1 and 2 star ratings because it can't recruit enough staff to open to non-residents.  How can you rate somewhere when you haven't stayed or eaten there?
We'd certainly stay again if in the area.

Quiet, lovely view, and staff doing their best.

I just stayed for one night in the hotel  annexe. Although the room was smaller than expected, it was all there and more importantly, it was clean. Generally, I think a think a few quid is required to upgrade the hotel, bar aside, as it all looks a bit too 'twin set and pearls'.  However, the added bonus was a nice view of Loch Ewe. The bar was very busy serving food which is always a good sign and my thoughts were proved to be correct. I ordered Cullen Skink and Chicken Balmoral (chicken breast stuffed with fresh locally caught haggis). Both dishes were served very hot, which I prefer as I can take my time eating without it going cold. Both dishes tasted very fresh and had that 'made to order' feel about them, nothing pre-prepared and nuked in a microwave. Downside, there was no wine list; house wine only which was a tad on the tart side. I had both Sauvignon Blancs which were slightly too acidic for my liking, the Chilean more so than the lone from NZ. All in, I would go back and recommend the Poolewe Hotel for a couple of nights or so. 

Twee, functional, clean, welcoming and good food

We stayed here on our NC500 journey for one night. Was extremely pleased it was only one night. Check in was fine, not the warmest of welcomes but we were showed to our rooms and asked if we wanted an evening meal there. We said we’d think about it but they were keen to know straight away. We agreed despite the reviews as no where else looked much better in the area. I went for the “home made game pie” it had a shop bought puff pastry lid which was pale and undercooked, the filling of the pie was a strange grey colour and meat was tough and chewy. The vegetables were frozen out of a packet and the mashed potato didn’t contain any butter or milk, it was literally potato’s which had been mashed. I did eat most of mine as I was aware there would be no other offerings and was starving but the rest of my group struggled to eat any. One of the others had a semi raw venison burger with a rock hard funny coloured bread bun, it was all just a bit gross. When my mum complained to the waiter (who had also checked us in) all he responded with was “oh really” and it was clear any feedback would fall on deaf ears and the hotel & its staff are not bothered about the customers experience in the slightest. I wasn’t Ill the next day though so that was a plus. 
The rooms were dated and tired and I would go as far as saying it was the worst mattress I have ever slept on. Whenever my partner slightly moved it sent waves through the bed waking me up. In the end I decided the floor was the best option. I laid some towels down and took the duvet and got a much better sleep on the floor. The room smelled pretty bad too I’m not sure why. I don’t think any of this was any fault of the cleaners - it was as clean as it could be but just in severe need of updating. They did however give a good selection of twinnings teas and herbal teas in the room. 
After our experience with the evening meal the night before we were unsure whether to even try the breakfast. We all just wanted to get out of there at this point. However, we had paid for breakfast and decided to give it a go, we thought if it was that bad we could just leave it and it’s not like we had to pay any more for it. Much to our surprise we were met by a lovely lady at breakfast who was happy and friendly, she took our cooked breakfast orders and we went to get some bits from the continental breakfast. There was warmed croissants which were delicious, tiptree preserves and honey in small glass jars. A variety of tea and coffee available and juices. The cooked breakfast came and it was delicious and the produce seemed fresh and of good quality - how could it be so different from the night before? We came to the conclusion it must have been a different chef who cooked the breakfast. 
If it hadn’t of been for the breakfast then I would have had to give one star. Overall I wouldn’t stay here again.
