I have been going to this hotel for 8 years, and last night will now be the last! I can honestly say that I have never been so disappointed with a hotel in my life. 

My wife and I booked a deal with the hotel for bed breakfast and evening meal, we have done this many times before and have always been over the moon with everything. However, last night we where given a room that had blatantly not been cleaned, probably just a quick going over! There where cobwebs, everywhere! I know you can’t really do much about spiders but this looked like a task from I’m a Celeb! The cobwebs on the lamps had clearly been there for a very long time. 

We went and spoke to the manager and asked her to have a look, my wife suggested just give it all a quick hoover. She first told us there’s nothing they can do about spiders but shouted for someone from the kitchen to have a look. Her words were “I know it’s not your job but go and see what their problem is” 
The lady from the kitchen followed us to the room and gave it all a quick dust with a duster. We had to show her how thick the dust was on the light shades as she couldn’t see it. I then went round and removed all the spiders.

We went down for dinner and was told that elements from the small menu were not available. We basically had a choice of three dishes. My meal was ok but my wife’s chicken was so hard it snapped her tooth. 

We made the best we could of the rest of the night (the bar had ran out of a lot of drinks) and went to bed, I would love to say we slept but the bed was so uncomfortable, we didn’t. Every move meant you could feel every spring, utterly awful.

We went down for breakfast as soon as it opened and was told they had no kippers and no porridge. So two out of the four breakfast options where not available, feels like a bit of a trend. We had breakfast and checked out, and will not be returning.

This is such a shame as Dunsley Hall was honestly one of our favourite places to go. We have had some amazing visits over the years but the decline is unfortunately too great. The feeling from the staff and management is that they just don’t care, everything was a chore and the guests a hindrance. We weren’t the only people complaining at breakfast regarding food and the rooms. 

I hope that the hotel can find its way again as it was once a great destination and a lovely experience, now however, I would advise people to avoid.

Drastic decline

We took advantage of Dunsley Hall's Autumn D,B&B offer and it was a wonderful stay. The location, facilities, room, staff and food were first class. The quality of the food for dinner and breakfast was excellent, all seved by the best staff we've encountered over the last few years. The historic property has recently been refurbished very well in a sympathetic and classic fashion. We will definitely return.

First class stay

Had a fabulous 1 night stay for my husband’s birthday after being recommended this hotel by friends.  The room was nicely decorated & clean, complementary bottles of water, tea & coffee & a fan provided as it was a warm day.  Had evening meal & breakfast at the hotel which were included in the £150 DB&B package we’d booked.  Food was excellent & very good value for money with the package.  Free parking & only a short drive from all the attractions & beaches on the N Yorks Coast.  Lovely grounds to sit out or have a stroll around.  We will definitely be back.

Great 1 night stay

we had a fabulous stay for our anniversary.  the staff are very friendly and very helpful.  we absolutely loved oliver who was amazing 👏.  five stars for you oliver.  you was so kind and helpful.  we had a wheelchair accessible room. there was lots of space. the hotel is beautifully decorated.  it was spotlessly clean. the grounds were stunning with the flowers in bloom. the breakfast was nice with gluten free options.  my only negative is that the WiFi didn't reach room 21. thank you for our wonderful stay

Fabulous stay

The room was large but old fashioned in decor much the same as the rest of the hotel. Hotel and room were clean though .
We booked dinner, bed and breakfast the breakfasts were mostly ok just the last morning we had sausages that were barely cooked. The dinner menu was lacking choice so over 4 days it was a struggle to find what to eat and the quality was not always up to standard.The menu does have items on it including tea and coffee which were an extra charge. I understand steaks being charged extra for but not prawn cocktail,cheese and biscuits etc. 
The dinner spoiled our experience unfortunately.

Clean hotel in quiet location but some meals leave something to be desired.

Another lovely and relaxing stay at Dunsley Hall. The staff are always courteous, warm and welcoming. The setting and character of the Hall is fabulous. Combined with great food and service next door at the brilliant Harleys. Can’t wait to stay again. Highly recommended!!

Another fabulous stay at Dunsley Hall.

I took my wife here for a break was a lovely stay, we had the dinner and breakfast deal which was great value. The hotel is lovely and the staff are really friendly and attentive. We had our dog with us and he had a lovely stay too. The dinner was a three course meal with some good choices and breakfast was very filling. It’s about a 10 minute drive to Whitby and about 25 to Robins hood bay

Lovely break

Our friends had recommended  Dunsley Hall and we were very much looking forward to the experience.   We booked in when there was an offer on at £120.00 for Bed  Breakfast and Dinner which we thought was an amazing offer.  I wish the hotel inside was as beautifully manicured like the gardens and grounds... they really were beautiful.  However the inside was very tired and needs updating in many areas.  We were given a garden room where all the furniture looked dark  old and mismatched.  The carpet was very tired and the curtains were hanging off the rail.  The bathroom however was very smart.  
We stayed for two nights.  The first evening we were given a small menu and our first two choices had run out ....  Salmon and Cod.  Had I not ordered our sweet when ordering our main dish  that would have ran out to.  The second night was my partners birthday so when we asked for steak which was an extra £9.00 supplement each  we were told they had ran out of that to, so we struggled yet again to get anything which was left.  Our choice of sweet had also run out so we passed on sweet completely as the only choice was cheese and biscuits  and ice cream.
Sadly I cannot see us returning but in favour of our stay ... the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.

Disappointing visit

As always a lovely stay, excellent food. Tip pay for an upgrade, it’s worth the money. Our favourite rooms are the bridal suite and room 1.

Would have loved to go back for our wedding Anniversary in January but they will be closed from Monday 30th Oct 2023 until March 2024. For much needed work.
(Staff only found out this week, but hope to see everyone again next year) xx

Lovely stay as always our 5th time

Some weeks ago we booked a short stay for November to visit a reunion in Whitby. Hotel recently called to say they would be closed (for the winter ?). Disappointing to wait several weeks before telling us this!
