We booked Saturday lunchtime, and arrived at 7 to find the loudest disco ever going on The room bounced. We were told it would go on till between 12.30 and 1.00. When I asked how they could have sold me the room only hours before, knowing it was this loud, the manager said they ‘weren’t really a hotel, but a pub that does parties’. She became rude when I asked for a refund and then messed about with the card machine telling me it wouldn’t work with my card. She was rude, the whole place tacky and unpleasant, an entirely awful experience. 

Terrible place, ride management, don’t care about their guests at all

The Crown Hotel is not a hotel. Its a very busy and noisy pub with rooms above. The room I had was decrepit, desperately in need of refurbishment and the noise from the bar below kept me awake until the early hours of the morning both nights I stsyed. If I had known just how bad the stay was going to be, I'd have definitely not stayed there. The car park is small and fills up quickly which meant me having to park in the street some 100 or so metres from the hotel. Having said all that, the staff were friendly and obliging. 

Crown Hotel? No. Not a hotel but a busy and noisy pub with rooms above.

So we pulled up after the 1-1 draw and walked along to the Crown Inn. 
We had a friendly welcome and ordered our late brekky and soft drinks.
The meal arrived soon afterwards and was very tasty.
We will visit again when next down here from Surrey.

One of my daughters had a football match in Alton so we decided to have a full English breakfast .

Upon arrival there was no parking which we were aware may be an issue as only have a small car park, this was fine. We asked the guy checking us in where we could park and his response was dunno I don’t live here - not helpful. He asked customers in the pub and in the end the manager came and moved his car for us so we could use the car park - Great. We had been given our room key but not told where to go and there was no one who worked there to be seen after moving the car so another customer showed us where to go. The room was a decent size with 2 single beds however one is very close to collapsing, defo needs repair - not great but managed. Scaffolding up outside and the room was hot so we had to sleep with window open - not great as builders were outside window at 8am, this also meant we couldn’t use the bathroom as there was no blind in there. Second night there was a function and it was so loud it was ridiculous and again builders arrived at 8am next morning. No one around when we checked out. Hotel very run down and people working in bar care more about the locals than anyone else. Wouldn’t recommend or stay here again.

Run down!

Very run down pub with no real customer service. Very clicky with some regulars loudly extolling there laughter and comments. Not helped by a manager who isn’t welcoming or engaging with new customers and sits and drinks all night with her friends. I assume regular customers coming and going into the kitchen as they please. Tables left dirty food very basic and didn’t feel valued. No disabled facilities at all.  The whole place including the outside area needs a good clean. Too much emphasise on football on TVs inside and outside.

Not a good experience other than good bar staff

It was a very run down building, that needs completely revamp,bathrooms ,bedrooms, bar everywhere !
It was a uncomfortable stay,and I will not go back again ,unless it's upgraded.
But the staff are absolutely fantastic, they where polite and very helpful,I felt bad having to give this review, but it's not a reflection on the staff ,they are great .

I stayed here on Saturday 17th April 20 2021 with my daughter, her fiance and a family friend. We had two double rooms and one twin room.  We were on a long distance walk (Winchester to Canterbury and had spent the previous night camping) so it was a delight to stay in a warm, clean room with a comfortable bed and a shower (no bath though).

The rooms are above a pub on the High Street - at an excellent location. We stayed on the first Saturday night after total lockdown ended so the tables outside were busy with locals having a great time. It was "noisy" for some members of our party but everything was quiet by bedtime.

We ate out (Curry Palace - nearby - also recommended) so I can't comment on the dinner but we had breakfast in the morning - for about £7.00 as I recall. This was for a "full English" and as much juice, tea, coffee and toast as we wanted. This was cooked and served by the landlord (remember it was immediately "post lockdown) and he couldn't have done enough for us.

He filled our water bottles before we left and also brought us four bottles of mineral water (as a gift) - which we declined because we were keeping our backpacks as light as possible.

Avoid this hotel like the plague if you expect gold-plated taps and uniformed footmen but if you want a value for money stop-over in Alton run by lovely people I highly recommend it...

I enjoyed my stay!

Budget breakfast but good value basic cooking. Good service, friendly staff who seem to be observing covid regs.  We were just in the bar area which is typical pub Okay for a budget start to the day. What impressed me most was the friendly staff.

We've just attended a function at The Crown Hotel in Alton, and I have to say that the service and food was first rate. All the staff were very polite, friendly and attentive. Customer service was top notch and the team adhered to social distancing and hygiene measures throughout our visit. There were plenty of hand sanitising stations throughout the venue. Our expectations for food were surpassed; we were served not only plenty of buffet fayre per table (fresh sandwiches, samosas, sausage rolls, onion rings, bhajis, chicken drumsticks and more), but also bowls of curry  and rice along with french fries. According to the host the cost per head was very reasonable, which included the food and exclusive use of the function room.  I would definitely recommend this venue for a private function.

Excellent All Round

The room smelt really bad due to the air fresher the bed was really uncomfortable the shower was poor lack of water pressure was hard to keep the water temperature warm but the stuff were very nice and helpful but won't be saying again 👍
