We stayed here about a year ago when the rooms were being run by the New Flying Horse with breakfast provided at that pub. We were pleased with that stay and the breakfast provided which was high quality. We booked again this October realising that the Kings Head had new management. We were expecting the same again but left very disappointed for the following reasons.
1. There was no email confirmation of the booking and had to ring them to confirm they had the booking. I now realise the email they provide doesn’t work.
2. The pub doesn’t serve any draught real ale despite calling itself an ale house. Also several items were unavailable on their lunch menu.
3. Expecting a cooked breakfast we were dismayed to find 2 brown paper bags left outside the bedroom door the next morning which was meant to be breakfast!! The pub and dining room were locked with no staff present. We had not been warned of this on checking in and had that been the case we would have gone elsewhere.
4. We ended up having to buy a cooked breakfast elsewhere.
5. We were not able to contact the pub subsequently due to the lack of an email address.
Very poor and we won’t be returning

Very Disappointing

What a beautiful atmospheric pub, a group of friends popped in for a catch up and stayed longer than planned. The owner welcomed each one of us and provided free picks at our table. The choice of wines is very comprehensive and all served in beautiful classes. The attention to detail and decor certainly adds to the abeyance to a autumnal friendly and welcoming pub.

To start with a positive - the location is great: it's in the centre of a beautiful village. The welcome from Lottie the barmaid and newish proprietor was warm, and the bedrooms were just about okay - barring the dismal shower in my small en suite. The food and drink offer, however, is below par - no real ales and an uninspiring menu. 
The breakfast was woeful. The 'Continental' offering (really) was four Kellogg's cereals and a jug a juice. The cooked breakfast was 80% of a Full English. Under-done sourdough toast was later provided (upon prompting) upon which there was nothing to spread, but butter (no marmalade, jam, honey...). The service at breakfast was marginally worse that one might expect in a greasy spoon. I'm sorry, but that's the truth and completely unacceptable for £130 per night, single occupancy. 

Disappointing - inadequate and relatively expensive 

A luxurious and relaxing weekend retreat with everything you need all in one place. Rooms are large and comfortable. Staff is attentive and extremely helpful. We wanted for nothing on this stay. Couldn't have asked for more. 

Luxurious and relaxing weekend away!

I recently spent a weekend at The Kings Head and it did not disappoint: The refurbishment of the property is stunning - beautiful and well thought-out. The food, drinks and service were first class. Looking forward to my next visit!

A fabulous weekend at the The Kings Head!

We went as a family to the restaurant as they had vegan options on the menu, however, they had one option which I ordered. The butternut squash and carrot pie came with a delicious looking Yorkshire pudding and vegetables. When asking if the Yorkshire pudding on the vegan plate was vegan, it wasn’t.  NEITHER were the vegetables or the roast potatoes. They had butter on them. The gravy well I do wonder! I’m not vegan by choice, I have cancer and have to be. I was very ill afterwards as I had eaten some Of the roast potato and a couple of carrots pieces.

We were attending a wedding locally which meant we were unable to check in at the right time. The staff were extremely helpful in showing us how to get in and where to go. Even though our rooms were not ready we were given keys so we didn't have to bother with the key safe late at night. The room was lovely and well equipped. There was an excellent breakfast menu although one of our party would have liked a choice of cereals.

Excellent service

The rooms are basic and clean. Dog friendly. Very good breakfast and nice staff. Small bed, small bathroom. Our room faced the street, but it was still quiet. It was rather hot but a fan was provided. Really wouldn’t want more than one night there.

Good place to stop over before Eurotunnel

We stayed in the more expensive double - room 8. Generally comfortable and clean room with a large bathroom and very nice bath. Info for staff - bathroom door was squeaky and needed oil. After the fridge being pointed out as somewhere to store fresh milk, my request for a little fresh milk for tea after we arrived was refused - "you can get it from the shop"! Most staff were very pleasant and helpful though. Full English breakfast was great, with other good choices and good service although the menu was otherwise ungenerous with no offer of fruit, yogurt or even juice and only one cup of coffee/tea ("further cups should be paid for"). 
In summary a comfortable stay but skimping on little things felt unwelcoming. I'd probably stay again if the New Flying Horse was unavailable.

two night break

My fiancé and I came here for the first time tonight and I’m literally writing this review as we wait for our dessert. 

We ordered the oysters, mussels and rib eye steak with a beautiful bottle of Pinot noir and I have to say, this is the most beautiful meal we’ve enjoyed in a long time! The steak was cooked perfectly with the very best mushrooms, fries and sauce to go with it. The oysters were fresh and beautifully served. The mussels are to die for! 

If you want a romantic night out in wye with incredible service - choose the kings head.
