Absolutely lovely stay at this hotel. The manager was super friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, all the staff were the same actually. Breakfast was spot on, as was the evening meal. The room (ortega) was fabulous! Made use of the beautiful bath and luxury toiletries. No tv in the room but that doesn’t matter! It was a haven to relax, chat and unwind. We will Definately be back! Thank you very much x

Having stayed here numerous times before we knew what to expect. 
Great open fire, lovely food. Staff are friendly & attentive. 

We had two rooms, Ortega & Bacchus. Both lovely large rooms. Stayed in all rooms before & all rooms are lovely. 

Breakfast is lovely too.

Fantastic stay, fantastic food & fantastic staff

We visited the five bells this week and stayed over.  We booked in the afternoon and arrived that evening.  The welcome we received was outstanding, warm and friendly.  Our room was exceptional.  We had dinner which was beautiful - prawn tian, fish and duck for mains.  The wine list is interesting and nicely priced.  We feel very lucky  to have found this place and we will return.  The pub itself is really lovely, log fires in the bar and the bedroom, plenty of hot water, nice touches in the room including port, lots of core pods and bramley organic toiletries.  The team working here are exceptional and make the pub and stay over special.

Fabulous Dinner and overnight stay

1st class from start to finish, checked in to our room around 6.40pm the wooden fire had been lit, what a wonderful welcoming. Breakfast 10/10

A little gem off the beaten track , just perfect

Such a lovely hotel and restaurant in a picturesque village location. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and you could immediately see that the place is well run and well managed. The food was delicious and cooked from fresh - I almost never eat three courses but my first two were so good that I had the pudding, too! The bedroom was very comfortable and I had a lovely night’s sleep. If you’re tall, like me, ask for a bedroom without low beams as I hit my head on them a few times.

Lovely location, great food, comfy rooms but mind your head!

I booked the Ortega room from Friday to Saturday as a surprise romantic getaway for myself and my partner. I had visited the restaurant a few times before but had always wanted to stay. I can say that I wished I had visited sooner! 

The room - Ortega
To start, the room is stunning. There is a radio playing Smooth FM as you walk in which is lovely. There is a fireplace that the staff are happy to light for you. It is so cosy and makes the room lovely and toasty (Notably, there is a heater you can control, a heater for when you get out of the bath and also windows if it got warm; temperature was never an issue.) We received a decanter of complimentary port to enjoy which was lovely to sip in front of the fire, while having a game of chess. There is a gorgeous, huge, copper bath tub which comes with all the necessary toiletries (which smelled lovely!). Big fluffy towels and a robe each are available for when you get out.  There is a fridge with some food available to purchase. As well as tea and coffee making facilities, with fresh milk. You can hear the pub below but it was quiet when it was late and didn't cause any disruption at all to the calmness of the room. Outside the window, you can see lovely rolling hills. 

The Location
The pub is only about a 15-20 minute drive to Ashford Designer Outlet, which is where we visited the day after our stay. It is also less than half an hour away from Canterbury. I would say that other than the pub, there isn't much to see in walking distance. However, there seem to be lots of areas to go on a walk around the lovely village. 

The Breakfast
It was available from 9am to 11am. When we came down to breakfast, there were just two other couples eating, who had left by the time we were eating so it was a very relaxed and quiet breakfast. There was a granola course available with orange juice, tea, coffee and water. I had the toast with avocado and smoked salmon whilst my partner had the full English. The breakfast was really fresh and tasty, with a lot of local ingredients being used. 

The Staff
The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. When we were checking out, they showed us the other rooms in the hotel while they were being cleaned which was great! I'll definitely be looking at which other rooms we can stay at in the future. They couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful.

The Pub
I'll leave a full review of the pub on the restaurant page but it was really reasonable and definitely tasty. We were offered a to-go box for leftovers as well which we were able to eat in our room later in the evening. 

Overall
I couldn't recommend Five Bells enough if you are looking for a romantic countryside getaway. A few meal and a few drinks in the historic pub followed by a stay in a beautiful room; what could be better?

Perfect Romantic Weekend in the Countryside! Highly Recommend.

From the moment you enter you know you benefit from great teamwork where nothing is too much trouble. Being a bit ancient we needed help with the extreme weather but ate and drank splendidly. Sadly words cannot do justice to the whole Five Bells experience. Give it a go and we dare you to disagree !

Wonderful bits and pieces collected since 1532

Gorgeous, quirky and SO friendly. We are joust on our way home from a lovely overnight stay. I wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you for making are weekend even more wonderful. We had a great breakfast after a cosy, quiet nights sleep. We really enjoyed the great big bath in our lovely room. Highly recommended.

Wonderful

This is the third year we have stayed here for two nights and it never disappoints, lovely country pub with classy vibes, but not stuffy! Amazing accommodation, food and great staff, great rural location for walks and relaxing, really is a special place and we love it

We have just returned from a 1 night stay at Five Bells Inn and everything was amazing, great staff and food was delicious, every course. Breakfast was also outstanding. We came on the dinner, bed and breakfast deal and it was such a great value. Will be booking again.
