Booked in just for one night.  Ample car parking space, staff very friendly.  Accommodation very clean, great shower with plenty of hot water and good water pressure.  Great supply of teas and coffee with biscuits in room plus a nice touch of a chocolate on the towels at the foot of the beds. The only down side was there was only one small bedside lamp and I had booked a family room with a double and single bed.  Breakfast was enormous.  I ordered a poached egg on toast and unexpectedly got 4 eggs all perfectly cooked and 2 pieces of toast.  Lots of choice for cereals, yoghurts and fruit too. Best of all was the cost. I paid £100 for the family room for 3 adults and 3 breakfasts.

Great value B&B

Lovely wee part of the world, traditional hotel with a great wee bar and some nice malts.  Staff are amazing, very friendly and helpful, it’s worth going here for the hospitality alone.  Will definitely be back.

Amazing Hospitality

Very accommodating hosts, comfortable and spacious family room. Beds were firm, but very comfortable, and wifi, breakfast and parking were free as advertised. At the time we arrived they were not offering evening meals at the hotel, but as we were planning on eating at the local chippy this wasn’t a problem for us :) The hotel apparently offers a 20% discount at select local restaurants but we didn’t test this.

Only major complaint would be that the room needs a bit more TLC; there was some staining on the walls and one of the bedside lamps had nowhere to plug it, which was unusual. The wifi was also a little bit slow but as it is a remote location and the wifi must get a lot of use this is perfectly understandable, just worth keeping in mind.

All in all it was a great night’s sleep, a great location, a great breakfast and great hosts :D Would definitely consider staying again if we’re coming through the area.

Charming hotel, gorgeous location

I stayed here as it was difficult to get a hotel reasonably priced in Inverness. It's in a lovely tourist area but sadly it's a very unloved business. Evidence of this can be found inside and outside. The website does not reflect an accurate picture. On entering Avoch, the peeling hotel name sign literally says it all. I arrived at 2.30pm just before two American tourists, The public bar was closed and it was raining so they rang the tel numbers for anyone arriving early, No answer to either number. I had no option but to go for a drive but my fellow tourists were left standing in the rain.

Later I checked in to room 10 which has an exterior entrance at the back of the hotel, an area which is untidy and dirty with litter. The room looked ok but on closer inspection it was dirty and tired. Where to start? My photos prove all my issues are valid.

The double bed is made up of two singles at different heights, the duvet cover was torn, the valance sheet was stained, the drinking glass hadn't been cleaned, cobwebs on the ceiling light, poor finish throughout, mismatched furniture and an overall lack of love and care. The bathroom was opposite off a hall which had a cat flap in the door. Thankfully, I didn't received any unwanted feline guests! The room was cold (towel heater not sufficient to warm the room), grouting dirty, no toilet roll holder, no shelf for toiletries, stained bath, cheap fittings.
I repeatedly tried the WiFi password but was unable to connect and there was no ITV/STV channel available on the TV.
Local youths gathered outside my ground floor bedroom which was disconcerting to say the least.
The food at breakfast was the only positive part of the experience. However breakfast is only served between 7-9am which seems very early for a weekend stay. Also, as my room was accessed from an exterior door I had to go out the back of the hotel and walk all the way round to the main road to the front door. Not ideal in the rain!
If only the hotel was run by owners who take pride in the hospitality industry this would be a great location and place to stay. But it's clear from the lack of attention to detail and customer care that this is a poor example if visiting the area.

At £85 a night it isn't cheap and I have no problem paying that or more if I get a clean and comfortable room. Not much to ask of a hotel!

Unloved and unlovely

We stayed at The Station in Avoch on the third Wednesday of the month and were worried as this hotel has mixed reviews. So I will lay out what I found:
The good:
Breakfast, Cleanliness, the staff, comfy bed, well layed out rooms; did I mention the breakfast; It was very good.

The bad:
Noisy toilet pump (we could even hear the neighbours pump), Small rooms, road noise - (rooms 1 - 4 are within a few yards of the main road which made sleep difficult until traffic slowed. I would assume the other rooms would be far quieter).

The unknown:
The Station has live music on the first and third Thursday of the month, given that we could hear our neighbors, I think it could be problematic.

Would I stay there again? If the rooms were more reasonable priced, maybe (GBP 70 - 80 would be reasonable, we payed more).
By the way, I really enjoyed the Traditional Scottish Breakfast.
