I stayed overnight at Crannoch House while in the area on business. My room was clean and comfortable with a very large bathroom. The hotel WIFI is excellent, and I was able to complete a great deal of work in the evening. The hotel is located just over two miles outside Ballater alongside the A93 there is though no traffic noise with all the trees surrounding the hotel. It was wonderful to see the birds and a red squirrel at the feeders outside the dining room while I enjoyed my breakfast prepared by Doug the hotels proprietor the coffee was excellent, and I enjoyed some local honey on my toast with the beehives located on the hillside beside the hotel. All in all, it was a pleasant relaxing stay, and the room rate was very reasonable for the area. 

Pleasant overnight stay.

Really loved this adoberable B&B! Douglas was a great host, who made us feel very welcome and made the best pancakes for breakfast! The B&B is somewhat secluded, so you can only get there by car. Furthermore, you will also need to take the car if you want to go out and find a nice restaurant. But that didn't bother is because we found that part of its charm! The rooms are basic, but very clean and have everything you need.

Charming little B&B hidden in nature!

The owner wishes to please his guests and tried very hard, especially at breakfast. However,  he has missed the fact that the first priority is a comfortable room.  He appears yo be a DIY addict, but doesn't even fill his bodged holes. The bed I had was so uncomfortable I rolled off on the night! Little non-working reading lights, tiny unusable mirror , uncomfortable sofa, tiny bathroom like something out of the 50s! Did not make for comfort.

The owner tries hard but has missed the essentials.

Stayed overnight in the twin ensuite room. Very comfortable with excellent facilities including tea and coffee, USB points and lovely towels. Despite being close to the road the room was very quiet. 
All rooms were superbly clean and well furnished.
Breakfast was delicious - freshly made pancakes and bread, fresh fruit, jam, yoghurts, juice and coffee.
Doug was an excellent host - very welcoming and friendly.
We especially enjoyed watching the birds and red squirrel as we ate our breakfast.
Great location for walkers, plenty of parking and easy access to roads to explore the area.

Comfortable and cozy in a brilliant location

Recently had three nights here at Crannach House. Doug was a superb host and cooked up a storm of breakfast to get us on our way. Close to heaps of hikes and local attractions. The room was lovely with plenty of space and the bathroom was huge with fluffy towels and a great hot shower/bath. Doug is a superb host and has plenty of local knowledge. Enjoyed our three night stay.

Comfy, Excellent Breakfast

Lovely welcome from Doug, the room was clean and comfortable. My plans had to change but the earlier breakfast was accommodated without any fuss and the breakfast delicious with scrambled eggs and great toast and coffee. The room wasn’t the most modern but everything was spotless. Thanks for a lovely stay, and the opportunity to watch red squirrels and birds feeding their fledglings at the nut feeders was just fabulous. Much appreciated.

Loads of charm and a lovely welcome


We stayed in this Covid friendly BnB for one night. It had hot showers and it was a clean spacious room.  Loads of USB charging points.  Tea pot and coffee provided and had an en-suite.  Doug was very friendly and accommodating cooking an early breakfast (really nice) so we could get hillwalking early.  There are heaps of birds feeding within easy sight of the breakfast table.  We did see a squirrel very briefly.  Thanks for a nice stay Doug.  Highly recommend.

Clean, friendly, en-suite and a cooked to order breakfast.  

Doug is a wonderful host and  was able to give us plenty of recommendations for the local area. The room with private en-suite was great, lots of facilities! Breakfast was great, lots of homemade goods on offer.  Small cafe next door was handy and some fabulous walking trails start about a minute away from the house. Ample parking at the property. When back in this area, we will definitely stay here again.

A lovely place to stay!

After a long walk all we needed was a nice place to rest. C.H. is suited verry close to popular Prince Albert Cairns walk so it was an extra beneficial as it was our trip destination that day. Person who run this place is extreamly nice and helpfull, great host. Our room was clean and tidy and we sleeped well. Breakfast was very tasty and home made as the host its also baker. Oh, they are more then happy to let you take your pet with you :)

The room was clean but the linen and bathroom amenities need upgrading.
Plenty of secure off road parking 
The setting is lovely with lots of wildlife.
It is located outside of town so you need to drive for dinner.
