Booked here as a starting point for the great glen canoe trail  even let us store  our 3 kayaks ,staff where great , room was clean ,very basic but it’s a budget hostel  , Location wise there is a bistro /bar two min walk away and a pub 5 minutes away . Would recommend this place and would stay again

Great hostel and staff

Great location close to Ben Nevis, check in was swift, staff were really helpful. The layout of the hostel is great with a brilliant chill out room and dining area. Kitchen is a good size and felt like being at home. Bedroom sizes were good with cleaning bedding provided. We were a group of 11 and really enjoyed our stay here. We highly recommend Chase the Wild Goose and will be back here in future, hopefully very soon.

The only place to stay when visiting Ben Nevis!

Worked for us but I'll give the pros and cons so you can decide what's important to you. 

Pros -
We really liked the location out of town. Not a massive fan of Fort William but needed the location as part of a family roadtrip.  Only about 5 mins back to town if needed.
We had a 6 bed room and it was great - spacious and with it's own washbasin. 
Toilets/showers room as "bathrooms" was nice - no balancing all your stuff on a peg in a wet shower stall. 
Kitchen was good and was useful to have tea towels)washing up stuff to aid clean up. 
Staff were friendly and helpful. 
Breakfast room with tables and chairs was useful for an evening game of cards. 

Cons - 
Considering this was the most expensive night of our roadtrip (stayed in wigwams, hostels and hotels) it didn't offer the best value. This was the only place we had to make our beds for example. 
No drying room which is very useful in Scotland in a backpackers hostel! There was a hanging area at the entrance by reception but the front door was frequently open and it certainly wasn't warm. 
The bathroom configuration means that there are two "shower/toilet" rooms and one single toilet between 3 or 4 multi person rooms. The 5 of us have this at home 🤣 and these can be busy at peak times. 
Very limited parking but another car park a short walk away. 
We declined to pay £4.95 for breakfast (kids on the promise of a mcmuffin). Not expensive but very basic - a few boxes of cereal, loaf of kingsmill, marge and peanut butter/jam and a few long life prepackaged criossants. 

There were limited options for our family size in Fort William and as I said it worked for us.

Worked for us

Had a 4 bed (2 bunk bed) private room for 2 nights. Toilets and showers were shared but there were enough for people to use (some separate showers from toilets, some separate toilets, some combined) all areas were clean beds were comfy enough (certainly better than expected) staff were so friendly and helpful. Fresh linen and absolutely perfect location with parking (limited) out front but other parking very close by. Would stay again for sure!

had a night in a 4 bed bunk room in the hostel - clean and tidy. Good education for the children on hostel life! They had fun helping make the beds up. Towels were available for hire and the shower good (if a little reluctant to turn off but they are aware and waiting on parts).  Had a good night's sleep. We were up early so had the kitchen to ourselves. I can see why their website suggests booking a slot in the kitchen and dining area as it did get very busy later on. We did our own food but they do offer a breakfast if you want. Washing up liquid and tea towels provided so that you can tidy when you have finished .... another learning experience for the kids! The lady on reception was very friendly and helpful - we enjoyed our stay with them.

excellent hostel

As a family of 4 we stayed at Chase the Wild Goose. Highly impressed with facilities available and kitchen facilities. Everything had been though of, right down to providing hot water bottles for those unfamiliar with the Scottish weather! 
Bedroom comfortable and bedsheets were crisp and clean. Room was a good temperature and electric key pads on the rooms avoided the need for keys.
Good variety of breakfast items available if you choose to pay for the self serve breakfast. Would return here again.

Comfortable stay at Chase the Wild Goose

Handled our large group really well. Friendly helpful staff and made us very welcome.
Nice rooms, comfy beds, hot showers and nice living room. Great value rooms. This is our second stay here with our charity/group and it works so well for us.

Great stay great value great staff

Been visiting Fort William for over 20 years I was absolutely disgusted to find out that this establishments took  my booking took my money confirmed the booking and wouldn’t let me stay with my 5 year old grandson. I booked one bed in a mixed dorm only to be told I was being dishonest. And not telling them I had a child even tho I informed them 3 times. They put us out on the street screamed at me to leave the property. Sent abusive txts no child should be forced to sleep in a single bed with other adults. Lucky escape absolute joke

Stayed in this hostel while climbing Ben Nevis, had I read the trip advisor I would not have stayed (specifically take note of the owners responses to poor reviews - he cannot take any form of criticism).

When I arrived staff were friendly but I was surprised by how small, old worn and dated the rooms were but the staff at check in were friendly.

The linen that was on the bed was definitely not cleaned and had a poor odour coming from it. Before I forget to mention, I had to put this unclean bedding on myself!

When bringing this to the owners attention his response was that I get what I pay for and this is a hostel not a five star hotel.

Absolutely disgusting business practices they only get away with due to lack of competition

I've been to the Wild Goose previously with the Peak Climbing Club and I was happy to choose it again for a mountaineering weekend with a friend. It's in a good location to access Ben Nevis or head up the main roads north, south or west if necessary. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The kitchen is clean, well-equipped and spacious, the dining room has plenty of table space and the lounge is well equipped with sofas. The beds are comfortable and the room was a reasonable size. The toilets & shower worked fine. Wi-fi was free & worked fine. The only minor niggle I have is the laundry/drying room does not have heating on all night so if you have very wet kit & need it the next day it's best to get it in there early.
