We came to Banff for a family funeral and chose the County based on its location. It turned out to be an excellent choice for the 6 nights of our stay. 
The Georgian building is lovely, the room was clean and comfortable (a credit to the housekeeper), the service was great, but what made the County stand out was the owner, Eric and his wife Vida. 
Nothing was ever too much trouble as far as Eric was concerned,  and we enjoyed hearing about his interesting life. But the unexpected bonus was eating the amazing food Eric cooked for us. From Cullen skink, to local fish with chips, to homemade beef steak pie (with so much succulent meat), to lamb knuckle - which was new to us and now thoroughly recommended by my husband and me. And we mustn't forget to mention the full Scottish breakfast!
In fact my only regret was that our car was really full for our return  home, otherwise I would have been tempted to kidnap Eric and take him back with us. We would really like another helping of his delicious lamb knuckle!!

A perfect choice - good location, amazing food, excellent attentive service

This was literally a spur of the moment, jump in the car and go for the night, as we had things to do next day in the Banff area and wanted an early start. What a find! The hotel was safe, clean, comfortable and Eric and Vida incredible hosts. We wished we could stay longer and are hoping to go back soon. The added delight for us was the superb food in the evening and at breakfast. There is a special deal and pub-type food available for residents, but check out the A La Carte before you decide anything! We opted for Cullen Skink (local delicacy - fish soup to you and me), langoustines, lamb and monk fish, but really the basic words don't do justice to the lovely taste and the care and attention at both meals was matched by the satisfaction of empty plates. A wee shout out to Connon, a waiter with a quietly professional manner and great service skills. After a comfortable night, we were faced with perfectly-cooked Scottish breakfast and were still so full from the night before that we left it as late as we could. Clean plates again and, really, we didn't want to leave. Can't say enough about this wee hotel with its lovely owners who go out of their way to make everyone feel so special...just like the food they serve.

So friendly and fantastic for foodies

Stayed one night here. As I suspect others have perhaps said, the rooms are a bit dated but clean. The staff are really nice and attentive. The food was excellent, a really good choice of local bar food and also French cuisine, very tasty.

Overnight stay and food at the Bistro

So, I had to travel to a fairly remote area of Scotland for work and this was a reasonably priced hotel, relatively close to where I was.

The owner – Eric – is a lovely man, moved from France and settled here.  He takes great pride in the hotel he runs, and with good reason.

Whilst the hotel is a little dated in many areas, Eric really did make me feel right at home as soon as I walked through the front door.

Bearing in mind, I travelled during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was still very much a warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere; however, it was quiet as the hotel – at the time I travelled at least – was being used mainly by people working in the area, as opposed to tourists.

The room was a little dated too, but it was clean and precautions had been made to ensure rules surrounding COVID-19 were adhered to.  The one thing that bothered me (perhaps more than it should’ve done) is the TV…there was no signal, so I couldn’t watch anything.  This resulted in an early bed time of 1945, but I needed it that night, so it wasn’t all bad.

Finally, the food, what can one say about the food…?  Well, my evening meal was delicious, with many homemade options available on the menu (I recommend the paté).  The waiting staff were also very attentive, polite and chatty.  Breakfast was also very tasty with a selection of juices, cereal and the option of a hot breakfast.  Eric’s scrambled eggs are not “powdered just add water” rubbish, once again, they were homemade and absolutely to die for!

I would honestly stay here again, there’s nothing I can fault about it.

All in all, a great stay

Great room, very clean old style with charm. Full breakfast. Good choice of Scottish specialties. We were five, had a remarkable dinner.

Very well placed, remarkable and warm welcome.

This is an older hotel that shows its age and could need some paint and tlc. We had a twin room and a double room, which both were clean and comfortable with good beds. It’s not easy to rate this hotel - we had a great stay, the staff were all really nice and the hotel met all our needs. I would have liked to give it four stars, but the need for refurbishment makes it three stars. Don’t let that scare you- we would definitely stay here again if we go back to this area.

Nice hotel with great food

Just one night stay to attend a wedding in another hotel. The room was excellent, the lunch very good and breakfast excellent. The owners were very welcoming and were very helpful in allowing us to check in early. They were very flexible with breakfast time as well. I will go back for sure.

A beautiful location,a real jewel of a crown 👑.
We went by bus and the bus stops were less than a minute away,shops ,and other eatery are near by lovely,lovely hotel would definitely stay again. Nigel &Val Hollamby.

Walk into time to a friendly hotel with history you could feel.

Happened on this hotel just driving by. Most friendly welcome - as last minute didn't get the best room but perfectly adequate. However the food offered in the both restaurant and bistro were first class. Cullen skink perfect   - couldn't resist ordering it two nights running. Also monk fish which I sometimes find overcooked and hard was soft and succulent. Perhaps something to do with the chef (and proprietor) being French?
Charming young staff and helpful and welcoming hosts Vida and Eric. Definitely stay there again if in area. Thank you Vida and Eric.

Don't miss this unassuming gem

Booked a family room for one night as we were attending a wedding up at Fife lodge. We were welcomed by one of the owners whom were so friendly. We were shown to our room straight away which was so big. I loved the vintage look. When we all went to leave for the wedding we decided to walk, which was only ten minutes away. Not even half way there the gentleman that owned the county hotel pulled up in his car and gave us a lift. So nice of him. The next day we all went down for breakfast and we were greeted by his wife whom was so attentive, breakfast was awesome and had plenty of coffee and juice. Again loved the vintage look to the place. I love history and this hotel defiantly has the stately home look to it. And the beds were so comfy. I will definitely return and highly recommend this place.
