We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Mike, Trudy and Victor made us feel very welcome: they were friendly, very helpful and professional.
The hotel is old and the decor suits its age and history. We stayed in room 2, one of the turret rooms. We had great views of the sea and the room was very comfortable. The en-suite is small but adequate, and we were told about plans to enlarge and refurbish it. We ate in the hotel restaurant for 2 nights: good food and prices comparable to those at places in town. We also ate at The Captain's Table and Saffron Indian Restaurant, both of which served great food.
We would love to stay here again.

Lovely, comfortable old hotel

A very interesting hotel- once a private house owned by the Greener family famous gunsmiths. There are loads of interesting features and a terrific view over the sea. Barmouth itself is a great location surrounded by mountains and with a view right out to Bardsey Island. We had fish and chips in the town, however we had a great breakfast at the hotel and the room was comfortable but quite compact- the bathroom itself was tiny! However we were made very welcome. There is a comfy lounge with a good view over the bay. 

A great stay in a stunning  location

My husband ans I and a friend stayed one Sunday night. Was charged £124 for a double room 2, my friend was charged £73 for a single room 9.The hotel itself is old 1890s, and as expected showed it. The reception area is a corridor leading in the lounge area, looks like an old peoples home . Minimal decor, sticky floors, onward to the conservatory area where the dining room/bar is situated. This area was the best in the hotel,again very minimal but overlooked the beach. Also looking onto council houses and a mobile caravan park.
Was given keys, went to the 1st floor room No 2, bed was clean, tv on wall. Tea and coffee provided. Then to the en suite, never have I seen such a shabby unsafe place. It had an electric toilet the box flush was on the side wall. The hand wash basin was directly in front of the loo so my husband had his knees tucked under it to used the toilet. I am recovering from an operation and found this facitity almost unusable. The shower was up a wooden step, very small, the grouting on the entrance to the shower was dirty and mouldy. We did not use it being so dirty and the step being wooded it's a safety breach!
The room needes a new carpet and a total refurbish. Dusty dirty skirting boards, very used and old fashioned blinds. 
The food in the restraunt was edible, quite expensive, the waiter /bar man looked fed up most of the time. Breakfast was minimal, no expalnation of where to obtain fruit jiuse toast ect; Prunes and grapefruit was the fruit option.
My friends room was a single, very small but adequate, her bathroom was a lot better than ours.Room 9.
We have stayed at many hotels and sorry to say this is probably one of the worst we have encountered and feel ripped off paying £124.
Hope the management take all the bad reviews on board, it could be a nice hotel with the right management team and money spent on it.
I will not recommend it.

I very much enjoyed my one night stay at Ty'r Graig Castle in a single room with the most wonderful sea view. It was clean, comfortable and had all the facilities I needed. The warm welcome from Mike and the polite and pleasant chap who was working in the restaurant made my stay even better. I had a lovely meal sitting out on the sun terrace watching the sun set...bliss! The building and interior has real character and you can make the most of the awesome location with the large windows in the lounges and on the terrace etc. All in all a fabulous place to stay and I will definitely return when I can. Highly recommend. 

Love this place! 

From the warm welcome, to the clean and well appointed room, and hearty breakfast, we really enjoyed our stay. This is an older hotel with a historical feel. I was impressed with the friendly staff who were committed to guest comfort. There was ample parking space for our compact camper van. We appreciated the sea view room with an expansive view out across the ocean and headland. Additionally, on check out I heard another guest complimenting the staff on going out of their way to help her with a special request. A fab place to stay, we hope to come back for a longer stay in the future. Highly recommended.

Historic gem a short walk from popular Barmouth centre

Me and the Mrs booked this as a nice weekend getaway, being from Welsh backgrounds and living in England it was lovley to go back, and this hotel just brought back every memory I had from being in wales!

The decor, the little touches to the rooms and even the smell brought my Welsh memories.

We had a lovley turret room, which overlooked the bay and during the weekend we had a very rainy and wet few nights, but me and the Mrs snuggled up and watched and listened to the rain in the very comfortable bed drinking tea from a little cup and saucer….. PERFECT!

The room itself was very clean, the bed was super comfertable, and had a very nice layout with a wardrobe with good storage. 

There was also a booklet about the history of the hotel which made for a good read. 

The bathroom was compact, but had everything you need to carry out your daily washing routine. 
The shower was okay with nice hot water and the bathroom was very clean. 

The breakfast was simply spot on. The sausages for the cooked breakfast were the best I had ever tasted!

Ample free parking, amazing attitudes and friendly chats with the people who checked us in and dealt with simple requests!

The one and only slightly bad thing I would have to say, was that the attitude of the male waiter wasn’t the best, he ignored us initially when we stood at the bar waiting to order a drink, and then rolled his eyes and changed his tone to an unpleasant one when we asked to book a table for the evening meal. He was very quiet and didn’t interact when questioned about payments for drinks and food which caused confusion of how to pay, and we were stood there like a couple of lemons waiting for an answer that didn’t come. This has unfortunately dropped the 5th star off the review which is a shame due to the rest of the hotel and our experience. 

Apart from that, everything else was 100% perfect, we would not hesitate to boom again, and we shall in the next few months!!

Look forward to staying here again!

Brilliant stay!!

Had a great four night stay in a room with a sea view. The castle is a nice cosy hotel and the food, breakfasts & restaurant, is great. The owners and staff were all so friendly.
Plenty of parking space.
The hotel is situated on the road from Barmouth towards Harlech and I think most people would need a car to get to town & the beach, although it would be a short taxix ride from the railway station.
Will certainly be returning.

What views from the conservatory dining room!

My wife and I have just returned from a great stay at this lovely hotel and to be honest wish we were still there.
The hosts could not have been more pleasant and we had good banter at breakfast time on all days with both guests and staff.

Our room (2) was one of the turret rooms and was quite adequate for our 8 night stay. I will say here though that if you are on the larger side you will probably not be too impressed by the shower room as it is very small and indeed whilst sitting on the toilet the sink is virtually on your lap. Another note about room 2 is that you will probably require to have the curtain down on the one window when you are in a state of undress as the room next door has a balcony wherby other guests can look without obstruction into your room.
The view from the room needs to be experienced by the reader as it is quite breathtaking with the sunsets fantastic.

Breakfasts are ample and you can return for toast and fruit juces when and if you require more.

The walk into town is great by either road and or the footpath that leads you to the front although it needs to be said that this is rather steep. The return to Tyr Graig from the town is a good a fairly strenuous affair.

We had a great holiday and would fully reccomend a stay here.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay, with amazing views towards the sea right from the hotel room window.
Lovely people running the hotel, too. Very helpful and friendly.
Good breakfast, they even had non-diary milk for my cereal ;-)

Lovely stay at the "castle"

Have just returned from a lovely visit to Barmouth where we stayed here for a one night break …. Lovely little room with a fabulous view of the bay…. Nice breakfast and very attentive staff…. Thank you, we hope to return one day  xx
