A comfortable room and welcoming staff. No breakfast, but there's lots of places to get one nearby. Bathroom and shower were a bit basic and functional. Had a nice chat with people in the pub before heading to bed, but also no pressure to mingle and happy to just sit there with a pint. It's a room above a pub. A comfortable one, and I had a good night's sleep.

A comfortable room

Came in for a drink with 2 Jack Russell Terriers. Bar staff made us feel very welcome. Pointed out an available table into the rear of the pub or a table in the bay window with the locals . Sat in the cosy bay. Chatted to really friendly and humorous locals who made us and our dogs feel really welcome. Great start to our visit. Thank you 😊

What a fantastic ( dog and human friendly)  pub

Stayed here for 1 night, great location right on the main road, room was perfect with a lovely comfortable bed. All the facilities you need are provided including shower gel, shampoo and tea/coffee are also provided. Would stay again if in the area. 

Great accommodation 

Overnight stay in Barnard Castle, and so pleased we choose the Cricketer's Arms.

The room was extremely clean, nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. 

The bar is very friendly and welcoming, and there is a lovely beer garden to the rear.

The hosts Amanda and Tom were fantastic and very welcoming, we had a great time and will definitely be back!!

A Great Time!!

Came across this quaint pub yesterday after visiting Barnard castle, it’s very small and friendly the staff are very welcoming. There wasn’t a big choice of hot meals but that was ok, lasagne £9.99 chicken parmo from £9.99, they do a few light bites and sandwiches, steak and ale pie, Gish &chips, it’s reasonably priced for meals and drinks, bottles of wine £7 pints of beer £2.60. I got the Mexican Parmo with chips which was lovely, they forgot my husbands order of chips to go with the lasagne but we were in a hurry to leave so couldn’t wait any extra. the lasagne was a small portion which my husband was still hungry but had he got his chips it may of filled him.The pub is dog friendly and has a water bowl for them which you can sit anywhere in the pub with them. I would visit again.

Me and the hubby decided very last minute, to go to Barnard Castle for a change of scenery.

Booked in with a very helpful young lady. The room was reached up a staircase from the bar. The room was very comfortable, clean and warm, as it was a very cold wet weekend! No food available as they are waiting on a new chef starting.

The bathroom was perfect, clean and lovely fluffy towels.

Although in a main road the room was quite quiet, but the advertising banner was very loose and banged against the wall all night . This was the only downside to a comfortable, well priced and welcoming establishment.

Last minute night away!

We booked a night at The Cricketer's Arms during our stay in Barnard Castle. The location is central to a lot of the attractions and there was ample parking when we got there. You are staying above a pub so it was quite loud until kicking out time but after this, it was very quiet. The rooms are nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable, The only thing we were missing in the room was a chair which would have been good when using the mirror to get ready. Check-in and check out was easy and the pub itself is friendly with great staff. No breakfast offered but there are plenty of places nearby to grab a bite We would definitely stay again if we visited Barnard Castle.

Cheap and cheerful overnight stay

Advertised as a dog friendly pub!!! The pub was fairly quiet, ordered some drinks, went towards a nice seating area only to be barked at by the landlord (assuming he was the landlord) that we could not sit there on the carpeted area with our dog and was told to sit in a gloomy corner at the back.  Found this annoying as there were a group of people by the bar on a carpeted area with a dog with the landlord happily chatting away to local perhaps??  Felt very unwelcome and hastily left.  Thankfully there are plenty of other dog friendly pubs in Barnard Castle.  We would not recommend The Cricketers for dog owners.
