We paid £63 and we got what we paid for considering today’s hotel prices! 

The hotel has recently been taken over, and the new people seen good enough!

It’s worn with a few cracks here and there, however the bedding was clean, and the bed comfortable enough for one night - it could really do with a good thick mattress topper though.

We were in room 1, we had to ask for a first floor room as I have mobility issues. No ground floor rooms, and no lift. 

Shower was walk in, although I couldn’t get the shower head to stay upright which was a bit awkward to use as I had to hold it! 

There’s no windows to open and leave open overnight, as they double up as the fire escape.. So would think the room in the heat of summer will be unbearable.

There’s no breakfast etc, however a lovely deli just down the road!

We were there for a family event, and I would stay again.. it’s basic, but was ok x

Mould and damp on walls. Dirty curtains. Window rotten. Taps that won’t fully turn off. 
Central heating not working. 
Room 20 the worst. 
Everything generally grubby
Constant pulsating noise from establishment under hotel. 
Management that really couldn’t care (new owners). 
I was unwell when I left.

There are much better places

I booked a one-night stay last minute at the end of November. Received a very warm welcome and the staff were really helpful. The hotel and room was clean and comfortable throughout. Free Wifi Internet access and free car parking.

Avoid at all costs!

We booked the George for the Battle of Hastings weekend. It was quite last minute so we were pleased to find a room for a reasonable price. There might have been a reason why...

The good: the location is great, a minute from the battle site and abbey and in a great spot on the high street close to everything.

The bad: it's extremely budget. We were on the top floor up a very steep staircase – I don't recall seeing anything about accessibility when booking. Stair carpet isn't really a dealbreaker for me usually but it was absolutely filthy! Room itself was large but full of budget creaky IKEA furniture and it smelt terrible. Cheap towels, pillows and duvet. We didn't have water but after it was looked it, there was enough of a trickle to brush your teeth – just! No service to speak of – just a mobile number to call on arrival (which by the way, is round the back of the car park not through the restaurant!)

As others have said, no fire escape info, no secure locks or peep hole and paper-thin walls. No food either – we went to the cafe at the end of the high street and can highly recommend that!

We only stayed for a night and were in the room for probably about 12 hours max. The price we paid was a bargain and we were grateful to be able to drop our bags early, so I can't judge too harshly,  but I wouldn't stay here again and would be unlikely to recommend it. If accessibility is a concern, this hotel would not be suitable.

I did see when googling the hotel that it's up for sale, so perhaps that explains why it's in a bit of a sorry state at the mo. It's a lovely grand old building in a brilliant spot, so hopefully it gets some TLC soon.

Not great

Had a really lovely weekend away in Battle. George Hotel is beautiful with very modern feel to it. Room was clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly. Hoping to visit again soon as we have family in the area. Great stay.

Lovely Weekend on Battle

I stayed at this hotel for one night enroute to destination.  I reserved single room and offered an upgrade to double bed for free - that was appreciated.  Room was basic with all essentials.  Wifi was super and I managed to do everything from room.  Everything in room worked well and staff was attentive.  

Tea tray was great though.  Overall an extremely competitive decent night stay.  I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. 

There is no breakfast onsite but plenty of great cafe just outside the hotel.

Solo Work Trip

Man on reception is extremely rude, unwelcoming and just horrible.

Ir may appear to be cheap, but for the 40 50 a night you pay, it is well over priced. 
It stinks. 
Its cold 
Its Damp
Its Dirty 
Its noisy 
Poor water pressure

Spend the £50 on 1 man tent and a sleeping  bag. You will enjoy it way more 

I wouldn't stay if they paid me

AVOID

Absolutely appalling hotel - smelt of damp at entrance as in midst of decoration and no proper Reception Desk and cigarette smells wafted into bedroom. Room not cleaned between day 1 & 2. All contents very cheap and nasty - no matress protector on bed - yuk! Thin curtain meant being woken up at dawn by the daylight.

Avoid this hotel

The hotel looks awful from the front, very run down and we actually thought it was closed down when we arrived. It has a ‘to let’ sign on the outside. Inside is tatty and there are no facilities so don’t expect to get breakfast. The reception area is terrible. 
I don’t know what was going on above us but there was lots of shouting, swearing and aggressive behaviour which made me feel very uneasy about staying. In fact, we talked about leaving but it had calmed down by the time we had returned from dinner. 

The room was okay. It had a four poster bed which was comfortable  and the bathroom had a nice shower and was clean. 

I wouldn’t stay again.
