I came here with my family for a 50th birthday meal. Grace the manger, was wonderfully attentive - nothing was too much of a problem. The food was outstanding and amazing value. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here and would highly recommend. 

Stunning birthday meal 

Our second stay at the Lion, and once again it was superb.  Rooms are epic; this time we stayed in ‘Fire’ which was super cozy and quirky, with a fabulously comfortable bed. We were a group of 6 friends and had booked in for dinner. The Christmas menu was superb, everything prepared extremely well, and all delicious.  Staff were really helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. After a great night’s sleep we had a super tasty breakfast, all cooked fresh and, again, absolutely delicious. We’ll definitely be back.

Amazing stay

£110 for B&B.  Quirky decor but large well furnished room and good shower.  Carpets needed a hoover (not dirty, not spotless)

Breakfast not available due to gas works, not pre-informed though manager kept insisting we would have been. We were not!!! Tea and toast sufficed, bread unremarkable supermarket loaf .... but great bakery next door. 

Dinner was nearly good, very tasty lamb dish. Wine list all seemed unavailable.

Great party in the pub, a real experience!

Aspiring but not making the grade.

We have been staying in the area for years and have never been here but saw the Monday lunch deal and couldn't resist. Really simple menu but caters for everyone and 2 courses for just £10. The service was amazing with such attentive staff, the food was delicious and the décor was stunning. We'll definitely be returning. 

Amazing restaurant - hidden gem

My friends and I had 3 wonderful nights at The Lion. We were there for a workshop with Andrew Logan, so we were fans. Our rooms were great, the staff were lovely and the breakfasts are superb. The restaurant does not open, at the moment, on Mondays and Tuesdays, but there are good pubs nearby. On the Wednesday evening, we dined at the hotel and had lovely meals - worth the wait. Oh, and Berriew is divine.

A magical stay

My wife booked this venue for my birthday having never been here before. What  fantastic find. The food was excellent as was the choice of wine and the quality cask ale. Undoubtedly what made it Special was the staff who were kind and attentive. Next time we are passing by you will once again have our custom. Thank you.

Birthday treat

We booked a table of four for the restaurant. When booking we were originally told there were no tables but the lady quickly changed her mind and took our booking. On arrival we went to reception where a lady was clearly on the phone to her friend. Although she saw us waiting she continued her conversation and totally ignored us. There were two other staff members but they didn’t appear willing to see why we were stood there. After about five minutes of being ignored we tried to interrupt the lady on the phone who finally called one of her colleagues. We were eventually shown to a table and given what were described as temporary menus. The choice on the menu was not particularly great. When we gave our selections (four fish and chips) we were informed that they only had one portion left ( this at 6:30 in the evening). We decided that enough was enough and left and went to the local pub instead.

Poor Service

The staff at this hotel are amazing, helpful, cooperative and smart. 
The rooms are likewise amazing as I understand an artist is the Owner and designed with an artists eye. The showers are the best in the UK/Ireland and are a treat. 
The food served is top notch and not to be missed. The Breakfast was beautiful.
The rooms are very clean, as you would expect with such a staff. The pub has great beer and wonderful whiskey for a night cap.
We thoroughly enjoyed are brief stay.

We visited the Lion Hotel for a drink to be welcomed by the lovley friendly staff and offers of a free taster plate of which we accepted and thoroughly enjoyed and will certainly be back to try their menu. Thank you

New menu

We have eaten at the Lion since discovering it 29 years ago, sadly only on occasions when passing. We recommend it to friends the other day and it occurred to me it was pre Covid the last time we visited. We took the chance to get an early meal there on the way back from the NEC this week. The staff were as friendly in their welcome and service as ever, the ambiance is just right with the informality of a village pub blending with the art styling to make it feel both unpretentious yet a bit special. The food was beautifully presented and tasty. My whitebait starter was the best plate of whitebait I have ever had in over forty years and my main course of duck was excellent.  My wife thought she was being very conservative with the prawn and smoked salmon starter and chicken main but said the latter in particular was a  revelation. She could not find room for a dessert but I enjoyed a delightful crème brûlée and promised myself a Parkrun in the morning as penance! Glad to have recommended the Lion to our friends and if we can’t engineer another passing visit soon maybe we will come and stop. I’ll bet the breakfasts are good!
