Super pub. Lovely barmaid who, even though they were about to close, served us with a very nice real ale. Lovely atmosphere. The bar menu looked amazing and I wish we had been there when they were serving!  

Lovely pub

Very welcoming hosts for people and dogs - arrived for 6pm check in - room very homely and clean. Fresh smelling bed linen and towels - breakfast nice - quiet village so lovely nights sleep - would definitely stay here again. Thanks for a lovely stay (- for dog owners there’s a little footpath up the hill with lovely views for a dog walk before you sit down for a nice pint or glass of wine).

Worth choosing to stay here

Booked in here on a Saturday evening between golf at Roxburgh  and The  Glen at North Berwick.
On arrival the pub was so busy, customers were overflowing into the street. But everyone was so pleasant and friendly and we were ushered in through the bar area.
It is an old building with 3  bedrooms which are  basic but clean and facilities were fine. 
Dinner was very good with large portions and good value. 
Staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. 
We were allowed to use a table in the dining room for a few hands of bridge after eating, though only till 22.00hrs when the pub was closing. 
Only disappointment was the breakfast  - no porridge !! - and the full breakfast was surprisingly lacking in flavour given how good the dinner had been.
However overall would be happy to stay here again and happy to recommend - just remember it is a pub with a few rooms and not a hotel with a bar.

Pub with rooms - good value and very friendly

Like other reviewers, we stayed here on our way north (from Norfolk to Elgin). It was fine. Period. With a little more tlc and attention to detail it could easily have been much more than that. 

The restaurant seemed very popular on a Friday night but the food took a long time coming. Short staffing was the explanation - absolutely understandable in a remote spot like this. 

But it would have been nice to have a little more choice at breakfast and, particularly, to receive a receipt at the end of our stay. 

I do wish the landlady well in her efforts to turn the place round.

Good value. Needs a bit of TLC.

Not wanting to drive too many miles in one day, this quaint little pub with rooms was our first stop. 
Our room was basic, but clean comfortable and perfectly acceptable for us and Mickey, the Patterdale, who was made very welcome.
We ate in the pub, the food was not quite what we were expecting, but nicely presented. Breakfast next morning was good and set us up for the next leg of our journey.

First stop on road trip.

Stayed here for one night on our way further north. Easy check in before the pub opened as residents keys were in envelopes just inside the door. Room was large & fairly clean. The pub opened at 6pm & so we went to have an evening meal & met the owners who were both lovely. The meal itself was very average & not good value for money 
The bed was comfy & we slept well
When I booked the room I had contacted the Craw inn to request a Gluten Free breakfast & a vegetarian breakfast which I was told was fine. We were extremely disappointed to find that there was no GF bread or vegetarian options available

Extremely Disappointing

Lovely pub in a quite village. Considering the local restrictions, the food and beer choice was good. We stayed in the annex, the bathroom is fantastic, and the bedrooms are cosy. Kimberly, Ben and Anna are great hosts, would definitely visit again when this Covid malarkey is finally over.

Great spot for exploring the Borders/Northumberland

We stayed 4 years ago and really looking forward to the return visit. Very disappointed. The owners are very friendly but lots of changes using covid 19 as the excuse. Pub open for food and drinks 5 to 10pm each evening. Food all served in takeaway boxes with throwaway cutlery, ran out of vinegar.menu doesn't reflect what we read on the website before our arrival. No hot water in our bedroom, bin in bathroom full when we arrived, ran out of pinio grigio and sauvignon wines. 
They no longer offer breakfast again because of covid. They recommended a cafe up the A1 which we travelled to. It's a takeaway which they they forgot to say. 
The changes should be on their website. We were totally mislead when we booked.

So disappointed

Called here en route to Dunbar.Really glad we did as its such a lovely place to eat.We were quite early  so the bar area was quiet but they staff were cheery and inviting.This is a beer and whiskey drinkers heaven  with a huge choice on offer.
 Now to the food........I ordered battered black pudding with a whiskey sauce.My partner had vegetable spring rolls,both starters were lovely.Then our mains arrived which was fish and chips.I so glad i ordered this,i would normally opt for a meat dish but this was a superb main course and my partner also stated that hers was equally good.
   We will 100% return and also recommend this place to our family and friends.

Excellent food

Well worth an overnight stay. The front of this pub is a beer drinkers delight, although they do sell decent wine. The back of the pub is a more than welcoming restaurant area. I think I shall concentrate on the food. We had pate and fish cakes to start, both of which were tasty and well proportioned. I asked if the chef could add extra garlic and some chilli to my pepperoni pizza which he did and it was wonderfully tasty. My wife had the special mushroom risotto, which was also marvellous. The breakfast, and yes you do pay extra for it, was really good. The room was a little basic but didn’t cost a fortune, so we were content. The owners and staff were friendly, and we didn’t pick up on any of the stuff written on here by some people. Must admit, I found some of the replies by Ben to be quite funny.
