Dined there on Saturday night. Eceptionally good food. Staff very helpful. I had two starters, the Game Goujons and the Five Spiced Shredded Duck Leg. My wife had the Partridge Risotto and the Black Bull Cheesecake; all excellent. Washed down with an excellent couple of pints and a half pint of cider for my wife

An amazing friendly restaurant/Inn near Berwick upon Tweed. Situated in a small village. Car parking available. Food is excellent. Lovely atmosphere in bar. Angel checked us in on arrival. She was excellent and so helpful. Our second visit and will return.

Excellent friendly inn. Definitely worth a visit .

This has to be one of the best places we have ever eaten at or stayed at. 100% for everything. Normally there is something not quite right, the place, the atmosphere, the beer, the room, the food or the staff, however not so in this case. Everything was 100% perfect. The place was a great location, the staff nice and friendly, the beers were excellent and our room, the Alnwick, was really very very good. Great comfy bed, lovely bathroom and shower, couldn't be better. However our evening meal was exceptional. The breakfast was also very good indeed. So good was our stay that i find it hard to put into words just how good it was. First class stay and I would highly recommend staying here if you are visiting the area.

100% amazing stay and a must stay if in the area.

We visited the Black Bull for an evening meal following a long journey. The table was booked in advance as others have suggested though turned out not to be necessary on the night. Welcome on arrival was warm and friendly as was the service throughout. Meals were good quality, tasty and very generous size portions offering excellent value for money. The pub has been very tastefully refurbished and provides a pleasant environment. I would have no hesitation going back if I were in the area again.

Good value for money in a welcoming environment

The Black Bull Inn is the perfect stopover if you're travelling the Northumberland area, and it's rooms are new, clean and comfortable. What's more, the food at the Inn is delicious - I had the venison and red wine pie with seasonal veges. Overall, this place is a little gem.

A Little Gem in Lowick!

We chose to stay at the Black Bull Inn, Lowick, because a couple of years before my wife and I were passing through the village and wanted a drink. It was before opening time but the lady who was working that day opened slightly early, and was so welcoming, we agreed we would return and stay. The pandemic then came, and we had to postpone our trip which we have finally managed and we would thoroughly recommend it. The food is excellent both at breakfast (cereal, fruit, croissants, yoghurt and a variety of hot dishes made to order) and dinner (an extensive food and wine choice) are both generous in terms of portions and well cooked and presented. The staff are very friendly and keen to help, just the right side of approachable without being intrusive. Our room was located above the bar area, but we had no issues with noise. The room was comfortable, with tea and coffee, biscuits, free bottled water, desk, iron and board, TV, and reliable Wi-Fi. The village is a bit hit and miss with mobile phone signals and the pub is a victim of that, not in the bar, but it was in our room. The bed was comfortable, the pillows slightly lumpy. The bathroom had a walk-in shower with two types of head, a decent sized sink and good water pressure. There was no towel rail for the hand towel, just the main towel rail and our toiletries were not replaced during our stay. In fact the housekeeping was a little inconsistent as the glasses in the room were not cleaned during our stay, odd in a pub where they are constantly cleaning glasses, and the wardrobe had such strong magnets on the doors a previous guest had broken one of the handles which had not been replaced. There is plenty of parking at the front and back of The Black Bull Inn. It has a good location for exploring North Northumberland and the Borders, public transport is limited but the staff are happy to help with a taxi if you give them notice. Emails we sent we answered promptly. A weekend break that lived up to our expectations and a place we would recommend.

A warm welcome and relaxing weekend break

My friend and I were walking the Northumberland Coast Path and had experienced decent weather until the day we were due to stay at the Black Bull, when there was a heavy downpour all day. Fortunately it was our shortest day of walking so we got to Fenwick about 1.30pm. We were due to be picked up to be taken to the hotel at 4 but fortunately a kind local in Fenwick took pity on us and gave us a lift to Lowick, for which we were extremely grateful.

Of course, the Black Bull was all closed and locked up when we got there as it wasn't due to open till 4, but we went round the back looking for signs of life. We spotted a woman working in an office and rapped on the window, just about giving her a heart attack! Fortunately the woman turned out to be Lorna, the Chief Housekeeper, who thankfully let us in the door and even better, let us into our rooms, for which we were ultra grateful.

The hotel is fantastic inside. Although a traditional inn, it has been very tastefully modernised in a contemporary style, with high quality fixtures and fittings. The room was perfect, the  bed ultra comfy and the high powered shower excellent - you really appreciate a good shower when walking. There was also good Wi-Fi which was good as the phone signal is limited in the area.

Unfortunately, due to chef recruitment issues, we were not able to have dinner at the Black Bull as its restaurant was not open on Mondays, but we were able to go to the White Swan along the road. We did however, make good use of the bar facilities, where barmaid Kirsty was a great host and we enjoyed a good blether with her.

Breakfast was great and breakfast chef Pauline also made us up a decent packed lunch priced at a very reasonable £7.50. Finally, to complete our experience, manager Sue gave us a lift to Fenwick to pick up our walk again.

Overall, loved this place. The all woman front of house team were doing a great job and seemed to really enjoy their work. The Black Bull is a really excellent hotel and I would recommend it unreservedly. It really is flawless. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Best hotel of our holiday by a mile

Despite our room being set for one (only noticed in the morning when there was only one towel and one cup) and forgetting our dessert menu or returning for a dessert order, the food was absolutely superb (salmon tartare and the sea bass were excellent) and a nice range of non-alcoholic beers. Staff were friendly and helpful., The room was comfortable, shower was great, I would definitely stay again just for the restaurant food. Lowick is a lovely place and we managed to get an early veggie breakfast to make the walk across to Holy Island.
