Our room (described as a small double) was very compact!  There is another double room so would advise anyone thinking of visiting  to opt for that one.  The bed, however, was extremely comfortable and we had hanging space, tv, kettle etc. The shower room was perfectly ok.   Nice shower -  hot water and reasonable force!  Our breakfast was superb , well cooked and a good selection.  The pub is beautifully decorated and reeks of history - we loved it.  Our room was very reasonably priced. 

A very comfortable stay in Berwick

Comfortable stay.  Staff were excellent, very friendly.  Food great.  Only downside, the rooms could do with a refresh and modernising, but didn’t spoil our enjoyment at all. Plenty to do within Berwick and surrounding areas.  Well worth a visit.

Comfortable stay

My sister & I stayed for 4 nights on a B&B basis. The breakfasts were excellent but the kind waitress was disappointed one morning with the small size of our order ! We ate dinner at the hotel 2 evenings & again, the food was very good. The staff were friendly, cheerful & helpful, even looking up & writing out the safe crossing times to Holy Island during our stay. It is a small, quirky hotel with uneven floors & odd steps here & there. We would certainly recommend a short break here. Our only slight niggle was the early evening hours the hotel keeps but we were provided with a key to let ourselves in.

Quirky & friendly

Our group of ten were seated and served in a friend and timely manor, even though we didn’t have a reservation. 

The menu has a nice selection of  food items.  The vegetarian’s dining with us had several entrees to choose from. There was also the option of having a large or smaller portion on select items which worked out really well as I  had had a late lunch and didn’t want a big meal, unlike other members of our group. 

We had accommodation plans elsewhere but I would certainly consider staying here next time I visit Northumbria.

Restaurant for everyone, not just hotel guests.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel.  The first thing we noticed was how lovely the German lady (sorry i never caught her name) at reception was.  She was very friendly and explained everything perfectly, even going out of her way to give us some tips about the town and surrounding area.  This level of service from her continued throughout our stay during visits to the bar and at meal times.  You really got the sense that she enjoyed looking after the guests, so thank you for that!  All of the other staff were excellent aswell but i felt she deserved a special mention since she was so charming.

Our room was very clean and comfortable.  It didn’t feel too cramped, and the shower was excellent.  There was no fridge though, which i find a bit crazy in this day and age.  This felt like the type of hotel that would have one so it was disappointing that it didn’t.  Even just a small one would do so you can keep some bottles of water in overnight would be sufficient for most people i think.  The only other criticism i could give was that the curtains were very light and didn’t block the sun out in the morning, so i found myself waking up really early.  This may not bother some people, but i usually sleep with blackout curtains so this was annoying for me.

Food in the restaurant was good.  We had a lamb dinner one day, then sandwhiches and soup the next day, both really nice!  Breakfast was decent and we were served very quickly both mornings.  Fried eggs could’ve been a bit better but didn’t spoil it.
This is a very good hotel in a handy location, we’d definitely stay here again if we every visit Berwick again.

Lovely Stay

A typical pub hotel with a bit of a maze of steps to your room. The room was comfortable, clean, well appointed, and a modern bathroom. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Quiet. An excellent breakfast with ample portions and good choice was served. Located close to the wall if you want to go on walks. Did not eat in the restaurant. Would highly recommend.

Comfortable pub inn

We have stayed at this hotel for a week and like it very much. The staff are the most friendly, helpful and professional I have come across. The food is plentiful and superb. We have eaten in the restaurant a number of times and each meal has been scrumptious. The rooms are cleaned every day , there is a plentiful supply of tea, coffee etc. The room is cosy but adequate and the bathroom with walk in shower is fabulous. Only criticism is that the tv aerial doesn’t work properly therefore we couldn’t get the BBC. BUT, overall that was a minor irritation and the warmth of the staff, the location of the hotel and the lovely food made up for any deficiency. I would definitely recommend this little gem.

Splendid small hotel

Happened upon this lovely pub whilst on a weekend break at nearby Haggerston castle. With grandparents babysitting we had a rare night our as a couple and thought we had left it too late as it seemed everywhere was fully booked that Saturday night. But our host who greeted us, I think maybe German? Was so welcoming and helpful and found us a table even though they were very busy. She was absolutely charming from start to finish, and just as lovely was the food! We had the Langoustines and the seafood stew, absolutely incredible!!!! So full of flavour and hearty portions. Finished off with chocolate fudge cake and Highland Ice. In fact we had such a lovely evening that the next night we brought the whole family, in-laws and kids in tow.  Parking outside was perfect for one adult with mobility issues. Our host was again so attentive and immediately brought the children some games that kept them amused till the food was on the table. This time we went for Sunday roasts and items from the early bird menu and everyone was very happy with their choices. We loved our trip to Northumberland and we would not hesitate to recommend The Queens Head.

Real Gem in Berwick on Tweed

We booked a table for 8pm , it would have been helpful to be told last orders for food was 8:15pm. 

There are two dinning areas in the long building, we were shown to a table where one of the chairs was in the walkway for the kitchen, we did ask if we could sit in the upper area but we were told that, that area was for early dinners and they would be setting up for breakfast,  not really our problem.

As soon as we were seated the waitress came to take our order.  We usually like to have time to peruse the menu and chat.  We decided to skip a starter and go straight for a main course, we did enjoy our food but wouldn't eat there so late again.

I came here for my 40th on the 16th aug 2022 i was able to bring our dog i was not disappointed at all so first of all our pre booked table was already set up with a little dish of dog treats and a fresh bowl of water so then young lady took our order she was so well presented and polite and friendly the food came out in quite quickly and was red hot and amazing the whole night was brilliant from start to finish thank you all  for making my night absolutely recommend
