Nice hotel on the main street with good service and food. Breakfast was tasty, fine coffee, NYE dinner was also very delicious (perhaps even too much food). Staff are really lovely and accommodating. Parking is available, for free for hotel guests, either at the front or at the back of the hotel. Rooms are large, with comfy bed and pillows (perhaps the bed frame was a bit noisy); the decoration is a bit romantic or traditional. They allowed us to move to a room in the back, away from the traffic. WiFi works well, although if there are a lot of other guests, it stops working. The main drawbacks are the bathroom and the TV. On the one hand, I think the bath needs to be changed in to a shower (there is plenty of space for a large, pleasant one), the head shower needs replacing for sure... it's not even workable. On the other hand, only a couple of channels on TV worked, as most of them would get constant interference (maybe because they are freeview... not sure). But also, if you try using the USB slot, it doesn't work. For days when the sun goes at 4.30pm and it is really rainy outside, the TV is your best friend, so making sure it works is key.

traditional style hotel

Booked 2 nights just before Christmas and were met by the most extremely friendly and polite staff.  The room was perfect and the view amazing. Breakfast was well presented as well as evening meals. The staff couldn't do enough for you and always smiling and friendly.  Rooms can be a little warm but having the option to turn down the radiators is great.  Overall, very happy with the stay and definitely reccomend to anyone for a nice peaceful break in the countryside.

Amazing place

The location was perfect halfway to Northwest Wales, which was our final destination. Parking was free and easy, with a pass provided by the hotel front desk. Getting to the hotel was simple and well-explained. The room was clean, modern, spacious, and well-appointed. The hotel was located in a beautiful area with a grocery store within short walking distance, which was helpful.

A Wonderful Respite

Stayed for one night in a twin room with my daughter. Opted to have dinner in the Grill, breakfast was included. 
From the moment we arrived  I was impressed with the warmth of the staff. Very efficient and attentive. 
Even though it was -4 outside the whole hotel was lovely and warm.
The room was very large with ample drawer/wardrobe space and the beds were sooo comfy. The en-suite would benefit from a renovation but everything worked as it should and was spotlessly clean throughout. 
The food was all served piping hot with good portion sizes by cheerful, attentive staff. 
I would definitely recommend and look forward to staying again. 

Wonderful winter stay

This was our 3rd year eating here organising a large family get together for Christmas (table of 14 adults)
You can not fault the service and food, it was all perfect.
It is not easy with 14 x 3 course meals but every year they manage to pull it off.
Well done !!!
Highly recommended restaurant

Big Family Xmas Lunch

Booked a weekend at the last minute. Booked a twin room (201) as was assured it was a big room as opposed to a small double and also told their last visitors to that room (American) loved it??? 
Paid £280 for two nights, so not cheap. Firstly the positives:
Staff were fantastic- totally accommodating 
Location was perfect- in the centre of the village

Now for the negatives:
Room was large, but dated, smelled dreadful (like an ingrained sweat smell). So hot it was totally uncomfortable with heavy duvets. Couldn’t leave the windows open at night due to an industrial fan noise from the kitchen. It was dated and old fashioned and definitely in need of renovation. Kettle didn’t work. When you opened the wardrobe, the mirror smashed again the door as it was only held on by two small hooks at the top, a definite safety hazard esp as we didn’t realise at first and it nearly shattered! Bathroom was awful, toilet didn’t flush properly and the old shower head trickled water out. 
Food- extremely poor quality and definitely not local produce. breakfast - Welsh sausages tasted of cereal rather than any meat content. Beans were like bullet and bread was very poor quality. In fact it all tasted like a value range from a supermarket. 
Dinner in the Grill. Two course - lasted a total of 35 minutes! No sooner had our starter been taken away, the mains arrived. 
Ordered starter sharing platter, buttermilk chicken. Salmon bites, honey drizzled chipolatas and bread with dipping oil/balsamic. Everything was deep fried and they forgot the honey. Balsamic tasted like Sarson’s vinegar! 
Mains- chicken breast dish and Welsh mountain lamb. No flavour, over cooked, bland gravy on the chicken, like a coloured water. Food wasn’t seasoned AT ALL. Chicken dish came with a bubble and squeak patty- was so heavy it was like a lump of raw dough - basically inedible. 
Such a shame as hotel reception looked so inviting and had been renovated, with staff going above and beyond. 

Clearly in need of room renovations and quality kitchen chefs. I cannot believe this place is booked up each night- although there are not many places to eat, so maybe that is why? 

I believe the owners have the monopoly on the town, owning local shops and another hotel. Well that’s as maybe, but they shouldn’t become complacent. You are only as good as your last review and I for one won’t stay again until the points above are improved. 


Could have been so much better 

Harlech Castle, although ruined has battlements that can be climbed and give you the most spectacular views of the coastlines.
Call in at the cafe to try their Toffee Apple Cake. The prices are very reasonable and the staff very helpful.

A Great visit

This place should have it easy being the main place in Betwys-I’ve always avoided it as it seems so ‘obvious’. But we stopped this week and they don’t rest on their laurels… the food was really good, a great Welsh rarebit and great value for money too. Portions v good and quality v high. Busy, queue to order but no real problem. Like I say, better than they could get away with on every measure

Better than it needs to be

Travelled with a group of 8.  The rooms were small but adequate.  I found the lack of a lift a problem as we were on the top floor and had heavy luggage.  The food was excellent and we were able to rearrange our group menu to suit ourselves.  The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.
The hotel setting was brilliant with grey wagtails visiting the over the road river and pleasant walks in the town.

Group Trip

Walk up for tables only in the stables unable to book in advance. 
We had to sit inside because outside the larger tables were full. 
The family Enjoyed burgers , pasta and pizza. Food and drink came quickly and staff friendly. 
Just be wary it can get busy in the evening when we left the queue looked about 10 groups deep.
