 We have stayed in the Jersey Arms  about 7 or 8 times as I have family in Bicester but don't recognize some of the reviews.  The rooms are all different and quirky and invariably quite large, (on one occasion we even had a dressing room). We used to stay in the main building but recently we have been in the converted stables . We found the rooms were warm,  very clean, and quiet, beds were comfortable, the bathrooms are new or have been have upgraded although most retain the lovely deep bath with shower above.  Yes the reception area is in the back of the main building and is shabby. During the winter there was a fire in the bar. On our last visit on 1st October, breakfast  (in the beautiful panelled dining room) has, disappointingly,  been reduced to continental breakfast but there was a good range of pastries. Some of the rooms could do with repainting and the garden needs attention. Yes there is a broken window  on the stairs near the bar, (I noticed adjoining windows were being replaced).    but we have never been put in room with a broken window or torn shower curtain.  It is a very old  building (probably listed, and it has its uneven walls. I have read that the hotel has recently changed hands which may explain the lack of staff. We will be staying there next time we visit. 

A lovely, old, two star hotel, very reasonable price, clean but needs attention.

Do not stay here! It is filthy, run down and disgusting. 
Work half finished in rooms. 
One person on reception. 
Fire alarm went off during the night. Waited over an hour outside at the area stated. Nobody came to help or say anything to us. 
We were told by another guest; a man (the same one on reception the night before); went and turned the fire alarm off, he said it was faulty and then went back to bed!
After an hour outside we had to review the situation and presume it was safe to re enter the building. We went back to our room…the alarm continued to go off every 2-3 minutes. So we had no sleep at all. 
Breakfast was included in the price of £83 for the night. 
However when we got to the dining room it was all in darkness with a note on the door. Saying no breakfast is available. 
There wasn’t anyone on reception to speak to. I rang the bell and waited 30 minutes. I tried to contact the property by telephone and it was flashing in front of me on the reception and obviously on silent. 
We left a note for a full refund (as they take payment when you arrive); we left our details and we have not heard from them. 
I rang them today and yet I still have no contact.

Disgusting

Avoid!! Absolute nightmare.
The place was very uninviting, we arrived at the hotel around 7pm the place was closed, rang the doorbell and no answer so had to find a back the back entrance. The receptionist gave us our key to the room and all I can say is wow... I will attach the photos so you can see the filth. 
Firstly the room smelt of damp and it was freezing, thankfully there was a portable heater we could plug in. 
Quick glance around, the curtain was hanging off, the photo frames were damaged but that was the least of our worries. The carpet was stinking! 
Went to use the bathroom, it was damp and full of mold. The toilet didn't flush either.
We put the TV on, and surprise surprise that didn't work either. We then noticed the socket, this wasn't attached to the wall. Absolutely shocking! 
We made a complaint but was refused a refund. 

Avoid!!!

On arrival at the hotel we parked our car in the car park across the road from the hotel. On approach to the hotel we found it was run down it looked old and scruffy. Rusty railings and unkept garden. First impression was really bad. We entered the reception area which was poor and uninviting. The bar area was caged off dark and dreary. Our receptionist was brusque and not too friendly. We were given the key to our room which was located in the overgrown and poorly presented courtyard. 

The first thing we noticed about the room was the odour. The windows were wide open which helped. The room was a good size but tired and dirty. You could write your name in the dust on the furniture. Coffee and tea were provided in the room. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was also a good size but in dire need of modernising. There was a shower over the bath with a mouldy shower curtain. The sealant was not doing its job round the bath and the bath was loose and moved while showering. 

We didn’t eat or drink at the hotel it didn’t look inviting. We didn’t even stay for breakfast.

Not a hotel I would recommend. I won’t be staying again.

Probably the worse hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Arrived, booked in and asked about breakfast, “we don’t do breakfast”, it’s on the website and shows a photo of a full English! And as I’m going into the field for 5 days, living off canned rations, the condemned man was looking forward to his last full English. The room! the carpets were dirty, soap dispensers empty, ok I can live with that, I’m soon going to be living a field. 4am-5am loud whining noise, no it wasn’t a Stuka drive bomber, I think it was a water heater in another room. Up for 6am, thought I’d put the TV on and have a coffee, no remote fore the TV and no milk for the Coffee. The bar last night, most of the bar is covered in iron grills, with a gap in the middle to serve the customers, don’t know if they where expecting a riot, but I was the only customer, 3 out of 5 pumps empty and no change in the till. Reception is manned 7am-11pm, 8am lights still off, so left key on counter and saw a sign for breakfast room, so went to investigate. Found what I’d call a Kid’s club breakfast, bread, butter, jam and honey for toast, a couple boxes of cereal, yogurts, orange and apple juice and the making for tea and coffee, but no facility for boiling water. Now leaving to find a proper breakfast! Over all, if I knew what I’d be spending my £85 on, I would probably, just gone and lived in the field a day early.

 


Had better accommodation on operational tours!

Very interesting building, I’d love to find more information about this old building.  Ricas who served us breakfast was very helpful. We would like to have known more about his background and we heard he was born and raised in Bali, what a beautiful place.

Stayed here for one night in one of the superior rooms. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely area  to stay in. It is very early days for the new owners so there were a few teething problems. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. 

Overnight stay

This place should be named Fawlty towers. 
Shabby and falling apart, leaking taps, doors that don’t open, heating that is on full blast in the summer, breakfast that stops serving at 9am ( not 9.30am) as stated in room guide. No available glasses for breakfast so juice out of tea cups. 
Staff Dogs fed at 5:45 am and could be heard scrabbling around on wooden floors above our bedrooms.   Scruffy backyard with a patch of grass as garden. 
2 new staff who manage the whole place, manager visits once a month! 

Shabby, falling apart,  minimal service

Good value for money. Parking opposite the hotel was decent. The hotel is quirky, a little harry potter like, no straight floors or doors. Bed and pillows average. Bathroom was cold and shower didnt work great. Decent TV. Got what we paid for. Location close to Bicester village.

Average ok hotel

If i could give 0 stars I would. The room was disgusting with mould and damp patches around the window. Wallpaper from the ceiling falling down. 

Went for breakfast in the morning to find 5/6 small boxes of cereal with no milk. Tired to find staff at about 6:30am / 7am nowhere to be seen. 

I stay out 2/3 nights a week for work and will never stay here again
