It was ok, small room, bunk beds, but toilet door wouldn't close at all it was so ill fitted which made it awkward to say the least, could do with a bit more tlc for what we paid.  Pub attached which did meals, accommodation feels like it's an add on.  

Ok for one night

A lovely experience from start to finish. The staff at this pub with B & B accomodation attached are knowledgeable about the area, friendly, personable, welcoming, and obviously enjoy what they're doing.
Our accomodation was clean, comfortable, recently refurbished and well appointed. There were absolutely no issues to be had with either the facilities or the staff.
When we're next in the area this will be our first choice of accomodation.

Keen and committed 

The hosts at the Golden Lion were friendly and helped with storing our bikes, as part of our C2C trip.
Both rooms were clean, but were showing water damage in the bathrooms and so could do with some TLC. Toiletries were provided which is always handy on a trip like this when you need to keep weight down.
I didnt have any of the beer,  but it was a popular choice with the other guests with lots of local options.
If staying for the C2C, its about a 45 minute bike ride off the route from Stanhope.

C2C stop over

Stayed at the Golden Lion last night, in the 'bothy', which is next door to the actual inn, and which I believe has one other similar room. The room was en-suite with a bunk bed.  Very comfortable night after a few drinks and a meal. Great breakfast the following morning. Friendly service. Will be coming again. Thank you.

Cosy and friendly accommodation in Weardale

We stayed at the Golden Lion on a recent trip around the UK. The Old Coach House is easy to book on line, easy to locate, is comfortable, clean and warm (it was a chilly night). We stayed in the two bedroom apartment at the side of the Inn. It has kitchenette facilities, lounge area, reasonable bathroon and two bedrooms (one with bunk beds). The restaurant offers a good selection of food and drinks and the breakfast, which was included in the tariff, was plentiful.

Comfortable and clean

We pre booked this pub because we needed to be in the village. Rooms were average and quite small. Accessed by steep stairs around the back. Pub food was ok but I've had better. Probably would try somewhere else next time. Wifi didn't work in rooms.

Pub stay

Very good place,very handy for Weardale area.Excellent,lounge ,bedroom and bathroom.Great base to use to visit area. Cafe next door.Lovely StJohns Chapel.Near to beautiful Weardale Railway.Near to Beamish open air Museum within an easy drive.

Excellent

Just returned from a night away at The Golden Lion . This place is a little gem in the middle of beautiful Weardale . We were warmly welcomed to the pub on arrival and shown to our room which was spotlessly clean ,and had a kettle , tea , coffee and biscuits T.V with free view toilet and shower . The pub itself is traditional and a great base if you like the countryside and walking . The owner Tyrone has not had the pub long but he is doing extensive improvements and well what can I say " What a hard working man ! " He was at the bar in the evening serving drinks chatting to us and in the morning cooked our breakfast , basically anything we wanted , so we choose poached eggs on toast . Tyrone took the time to chat t us and discuss plans he had for the pub and accommodation and recommended local walks .If you enjoy walking or just a night away from the hussle and bussle go here , this place is going from strength to strength and we will most certainly be returning. Good pub grub at really reasonable prices , clean warm accommodation and a warm welcome from Tyrone all the staff and locals . Loved it :)
