We came in April for 2 nights to see the family around and really appreciated our stay. The hosts are very welcoming and make everything to make your stay comfortable. Breakfast was good and generous. The place is reallly quiet, in the middle of the nature.

Very nice play to stay

Did not arrive until nearly dark. Difficult to see entrance and then had to travel up a rough track and trying to avoid the sheep.
Made very welcome and shown our room at the highest accommodation in England (1800 ft). Water supply from nearby burn so quite peaty and discoloured but bottled water supplied for drinking.  Some low beams that you had to avoid otherwise you had a sore head. Electric generated onsite so warned it could break down, however little emergency LED's in various strategic places
Room was warm and comfy even though it was chilly outside.
Breakfast served promptly at time arranged and freshly cooked and tasty.
Trusted to shut up as host going to church as we left on the morning. Great views across the hills on a clear day.
An unusual place but unlikely to return as it was conveniently on our route this holiday.

Unusual B & B

The location is stunning with beautiful views but the track up to the cottage is gated and steep and stony in parts. Our room was large enough - just - but there were low beams in awkward places. And there's not a lot of storage space for more than an overnight stay. Bottled water is provided for the kettle and teeth cleaning as the tap water and shower are fed from a hillside source. We'd met this elsewhere and weren't put off by it but if you've never come across it before it could be disconcerting. The room was cosy and warm while a howling gale blew outside. Breakfast was a typical farm stay fry up but absolutely delicious. The owners were very kind and helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the area. It's quirky and a one of. We'd go back.

We found it!

This B and B is ideal if you are looking for peace, quiet and space...just like we did. Very nice combination of bracing surroundings and home comforts, including cosy room, good breakfast and friendly, interesting hosts. Are considering renting the adjacent cottage sometime, as it looks ideal for a "retreat" style getaway.

Getting away from it all

Had a very different experience staying here. Beautiful cottage and the highest accommodation in England we were told! Host was straight to the point but welcoming. Our room had very low beams and these are awkward but if you’re looking for somewhere safe, quiet and clean to lay your tired head, then this one will meet your requirements. Hilltop is one of a kind, with its own wind turbine charged electricity and natural spring water as it’s off grid. The weather became increasingly wilder as the night wore on, but given the location you expect the unforgiving! You will be asked what time you would like breakfast and it will be on the table for the time specified, warm and comforting come morning and served in a lovely room with an Aga. I think it’s a bit pricey but for us, we booked very last minute and at that time, it offered very welcome port in a storm. 

A refuge on a stormy night

We had another wonderful trip to Hill Top B&B, this time with a toddler. The room was plenty big enough for our travel cot which was fab. There are loads of lovely little touches to the room, chocolates, biscuits and toiletries.

Brekkie is lovely with choice of cereals and cooked breakfast.

The surrounding area is stunning and peaceful. We had snow and sunshine over one weekend. There is so much to do in the area. We visited Hallhill Farm which was super and defo worth a visit, only a 40min drive and some lovely walks.

Claire and Phil are lovely, we really feel at home when we stay. We will definitely be back 

Another fabulous stay

Nice little cottage with fantastic views, especially from the balcony, the owner Phil is a good guy to and very helpful. 
My only issues where the cutlery and dishes etc weren't clean, also the WiFi stopped working for a large part of the stay. 
Equally the place is very basic, for example no hand wash, very limited regarding toilet and kitchen rolls, only one tea towel and no towel to dry hands in kitchen. 
Also the door to the balcony is very stiff and difficult to open.
Equally unless you're under 4ft upstairs you will find it hard to move about, especially in and around the sink area. 
The water supply comes from a nearby stream meaning it is slightly dirty looking in colour which is off putting,I have brought this to everyone's attention as there's nothing mentioned of this via their website etc
All in all despite my issues I enjoyed my stay here, just a shame the issues above tarnished my stay slightly.
