We ate in the restaurant as we had previously stayed in the hotel.  We had lunch, booked in advance advising of intolerances.  We were quickly shown to our table which was marked with our name and 'allergies'.  We were quickly given water, glasses and menus.  The menus offered very few options to cater for my advised intolerance to gluten and dairy.  The restaurant and bar was very busy with only 2 serving staff that we saw.  We waited some time for someone to take our order for both drinks and food.  I was offered an iPad with all the allergens listed (not all the food on the iPad was available at lunch).  I asked if I could have a steak and flat mushroom ciabatta with salad rather than the bread and flavoured butter.  After a discussion with the manager it was agreed I could.  Mu husband ordered a fish finger sandwich which was apparently very enjoyable.  I had a 'naked steak and mushroom ciabatta' which turned out to be the steak, chopped mushroom which was cold and was not even the same amount as a small button mushroom (cold) and a handful of lettuce leaves.  I was given a lemon and oil dressing (very nice). For this I was charged exactly the same amount as the regular dish.  Very disappointing to say the least.  Our server Lianne was very nice.  Would I recommend or go back - NO.

I have a long history with this hotel. Dating back to 1980. It was the place to go to to drink the famous Badger Ale. People leaving on posting or demob, used to have their farewell lunch and drink there. I left in 1991 and settled in Cardiff. But occasionally visited. Then when I move overseas. I make a point each time I return to the UK to stay for a night or two. I just love this place, the cosiness, familiarity and of course the ale. This last trip however was not the same. I missed the Shakshuka for breakfast, but was still able to sample honey straight from the comb. No the problem is old age. Our room this time was probably the furthest one they had from the main house. I know we crossed a courtyard upstairs. There was a lift but the corridor and a few steps made things difficult for my wife. Worst of all, the bathroom had a shower but the hight of the bath meant she could not shower for the three days we were there. Even I struggled, and there wasn't even a handrail to assist. So I guess we have outgrown the Crown. Yes we could have asked for some assistance but we ex-military do not do that, and my wife said she would have been too embarrassed.

Helen on reception, what a diamond! So friendly, so helpful, excellent first impression. My room was divine. The bath huge and deep, the room well appointed. It’s full of original features which I loved. 

Dinner. Shepherds Pie, which deserves a five star review on its own. Delicious…..

The bed…. OMG SO comfy! I literally must have gone straight to sleep it was amazing.

Special mention for Vince! Vince is a delight and made my stay! What a gorgeous, lovely, funny,  Gentleman! 

Breakfast….. OMG… lush, well worth getting up early for.

I stayed one night but wanted to stay longer. I sincerely hope I get to stay at this outstanding hotel again!

AMAZING

Stayed here 7-8March. All was fabulous this hotel is really lovely. Great feeling as you walk in with such a friendly welcoming. We were extremely lucky and given room 11 which was huge warm and spotlessly clean. Missive comfortable bed with two good pillows each. The bathroom with very large bath and overhead shower. Nice tea tray with biscuits and two small bottles of water. 
Had drinks in the smashing old fashioned bar that had friendly young bar staff. Beer was super nice too!
Dinner in the main dining room was out of this world. Haven’t had a hotel meal that great for absolutely ages. All so so delicious so don’t miss the chance of enjoying your supper here! 
We didn’t have breakfast but I’d bet that it’s pretty amazing also.
There is nothing to dislike about this beautiful hotel. I really wish we could have stayed longer. 
Thank you for such a short but amazing stay. Please don’t change a thing about it we want to come back!

Top class hotel

Had a midweek lunch with friends. Rob served us and he was very friendly and accommodating to our needs. 3 of us had fish and chips which was a huge portion but a little overpriced at £16.95 and the other a club sandwich £10.45. All very tasty. Lovely restaurant, hotel and bar in a good location at the end of Blandford high street. Would recommend.

Very friendly staff, tasty food and great location

Fantastic venue, lovely atmosphere. Started off well, lovely cup of coffee brought to my table as I awaited Eggs Benadict. Unfortunately the eggs Benadict  was very lacklustre. Overcooked egg, minimal ham and really not enough bechamel to cover. Also no garnish. Now, if I'm honest, I'm not a fan of garnish but with the dish a little baren, some form of support would have helped.

Back to the bar for another drink, unfortunately I had to call a member of staff as the girls were all making a couple of coffees while the lad was making some very good looking cocktails. Just a little service focus would be great. 

Overall OK, just needs to finesse the food and the service to get back to it's best.

Hotel position, Lovely, Lunch great, Room ideal, large and light.
Parking perfect. Location easy to find. Definitely will return for business and pleasure


A Perfect Venue for an AGM

We were recommended the Crown Hotel for food by The St Leonard’s Farm House B&B.

When we visited it was busy with a really good atmosphere in both the restaurant and in the bar.

We ended up eating in the bar area (same menu in both the bar and restaurant).

All of the staff were really friendly and relaxed, it was so nice to come into a strange bar and immediately feel welcome.

We order the steak pie and the duck, both meals were superb.  Both of us agreed that the quality, presentation and quantity of food was the best we have had in a long time.

We will certainly come here again when we visit Blandford next time.

100% Recommend this Bar and Restaurant

Very disappointing experience, not sure what has happened to The Crown Hotel! Went for lunch with friends, coffee arrived, great coffee but no biscuit or treat with it. Lunch was very average and overpriced, the toasties arrived looking very lonely on the plate. No garnish whatsoever, the fish finger sandwich although tasty was overstuffed with salad and mushy. The Chips were overcooked and resembled matchsticks. Although probably quite trendy?? I was looking for a serviette which wasn't with the cutlery, when I glanced around the table there was a kitchen roll on a wooden holder!!! A disappointing experience for what is supposed to be H and W's flagship venue in the town.

Disappointing and very average

Came in for lunch with my two little ones. Lovely hotel , staff were excellent engaging with my little ones. Kids had the cheeseburger on the children’s menu and I had the Duck Hash and the chicken strips which were lovely. Kid’s especially liked the ice cream which came with their meals. Would happily return
