We had a very comfortable and restful stay at Walltown Lodge. Our hosts were very welcoming, the room was spotlessly clean and the excellent breakfast got us ready for our next walk - just what we needed. On the evening we caught a bus to Greenhead for dinner and walked back up the hill. Overall a highly recommended stay if you are walking the Pennine Way.

Friendly hosts. Great location for the Wall - whether waking it or the Pennine Way.
Nice rooms. Plus got tot sleep in the same room, and I think bed, as Boris, when he was walking the wall as Foreign Secretary - clearly anticipating Scottish independence.

Our first choice would have been to book a room in a village with a pub, but there didn't seem to be vacancies nearby. We booked a room here because it is right on the Hadrian's Wall Path and we are happy we did. The room was large and the breakfast good, and the owners pleasant. We had thought that we might be able to get a bite to eat at the Roman Army museum cafe, but that didn't work out. Last orders at 4 PM, and you have to pay the museum admission to get into the cafe. We could have walked into Greenhead (maybe 15 minutes?) but the Lodge has an honesty fridge stocked with some beer and wine. So we made a dinner of cheese and crackers we had carried, along with some wine. The Lodge does have some microwave meals available too.

Turned out to be a good stop while walking on the Wall Path

Perfect place to stay if walking the Pennine Way or Hadrians Wall. Lovely room, felt right at home. Breakfast was very nice and filled us up for the day. Had a very nice meal at the Greenhead Hotel which is only a 20 minute walk away in the evening. The hosts are very welcoming and without a doubt I would stay again.

Loved it!

What a treat for a weary walker! Well appointed room, clean and comfortable - the iced water with slices of lime a nice touch.

The breakfast was great, and the host friendly and helpful.  

The location really couldn’t be better, just yards from Hadrians wall path.  


Wonderful location, excellent room and lovely breakfast

Stayed here for one night as we were joining our friends to walk a couple of days of their Pennine way walk. Excellent location on the path, the hosts were lovely and the room was fab! We stayed in the superior double, spacious, comfortable and clean. Nice powerful shower too. We were given a lift to the pub for our evening meal which was greatly appreciated. Good breakfast and packed lunch! Would highly recommend.

Great room! 

The b&b is conveniently located only 100 yards from Hadrian's Wall and the old disused Walltown Quarry. Our attractively decorated bedroom had a very comfortable double bed plus a further single bed. Iced water plus tea and coffee with fresh milk were available in the room. The bathroom was clean with a powerful shower although the cubicle was very compact. Larger bath towels would have been preferred. James, our host, was friendly and helpful and prepared a perfectly cooked breakfast to order.

Pleasant stay close to Hadrian's Wall

Stayed here after a long walk from Alston our hosts were really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Good breakfast and the best sandwich rolls for our next days walk - arranged lifts to the Local pub for dinner. Rooms clean bright and modern -highly recommended !

Great B&B for Pennine Way 

Stayed one night with friends and what a beautiful find organised by our travel agent.  Quiet out of the way with friendly informative hosts preparing a great breakfast.  Only down side was a pretty small shower cubicle but understandable in the space available.  Nice walk to see part of Hadrian’s Wall and around to the Quarry which took us about an hour.  Wasn’t expecting much from the Roman Army Museum across the road being as it was so out of the way but was pleasantly surprised and well worth the visit.  20 minute down to the pub for dinner and a big uphill walk back but we were up for it.  Could have arranged transport back if needed.  Would definitely recommend this place.
