Waited around 10 minutes for a drink ! Eventually got seated! Staff friendly! Ordered 2 roast beef dinners ! Absolutely disgusting! So disappointed! Been to castle several times ! Apparently a new chef ! Big shout out to the young lady working the bar ! She noticed we were dissatisfied!  Offered a full refund !!

Wud be very reluctant to return

First of all, it is in desperate need of redecorating and sorting out, the walls were chipped and very shabby. We were in room 45. We got to our floor and it stunk of sewers. The room looked absolutely nothing like any of the pictures. The light fitting was completely caked in dust, looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a good while. Like the rest of the hotel, it was in desperate need of a coat of paint, there were numerous marks and chips on the walls. Then we looked in the bathroom, the sink was cracked but clean, as was the toilet. But the bath was disgusting. There was a brown stain in a line along the whole tub. The shower curtain was also absolutely disgusting and it really put us off the whole room. My husband has asthma and had already began to wheeze due to the dust and we had only been in the room for 10 mins max. We asked to be moved, but no reception team available and they were apparently fully booked, due to the state of the room we were not staying there.

Dirty and full of dust

Absolutely awful, we had to move from our first room as the sash window didn't lock and outside our window was the fire escape access. Upon complaining, we were told "there's CCTV outside" and "never had a problem before." Our next room was nicer but dirty, soft, thin mattresses, dirty bath and dusty everything! No heating either. The reception area needs a lick of paint and the entrance needs a new floor, not the badly chipped tiles they have currently. Our room was also very noisy, it wasn't our neighbours so can only assume it was staff chatting loudly all night. Laundry bags all over the common areas, including stairwells. A very bad experience, we left early but the gentleman on reception didn't ask why, he was more interested as to whether we had to pay anything. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

Don't waste your money!

In relation to over all  experience , this hotel is good value for money. It’s off the main town centre therefore doesn’t suffer from the noise and traffic. Stayed for a couple of nights to explore and do Pen Y Fan.
For that, it is perfectly adequate. 
A hearty breakfast will set you up for the day. Straight forward and quickly served.
The room we had was on the second floor floor. Fair to say it is ‘compact’.
There are low beams which you need to be careful of not to bump your head.
The window looking out towards the countryside could do with a lick of paint.
The bathroom is also small but again , quirky and efficient. The bath is probably the smallest possible but water was very hot.
As per previous reviews, yes, it is dated and a bit tired but that is its character.
It is good value for money, walking distance to town and close to the mountains. For a walking weekend , it’s all that most people need.
It’s in keeping with the location and should suit couples and groups .

Quirky old fashioned hotel.

This is a quirky hotel that has seen better days. Great location but definitely faded. Room  pleasant but shower has mould residue… could do with renovation.. Parking insufficient had to use paid carpark. Breakfast adequate .. menu said fruit salad but no fruit in sight…Billed as the best hotel in Brecon which cannot be trie!

I made the cardinal sin of not checking the reviews on Tripadvisor prior to booking!!
We’d stayed here before about eight years ago and had a fantastic stay which is why I didn’t hesitate in booking this time
WHAT A MISTAKE!!!

It was my Birthday and the wife wanted to treat me to a night away

On arrival the building looked worse for wear with slates missing off the roof and collapsed guttering 

There was a sign on reception saying for assistance please go to the bar - time 14-52pm

The frosty barmaid told us we couldn’t check in until 3pm

A great start but we waited in reception 

We were given room 31

I can honestly say that I cannot believe this hotel are selling such shockingly bad rooms

Tired/Grim and Sad are words that speak volumes 

It’s easier to list the problems;

Carpet coming away from the Carpet Gripper
Frayed Worn and Soiled Carpet 
BLOOD STAINED bed covers 
Grubby magnolia walls
Layers of dirt INSIDE the windows
Cracked and chipped paint on both window sills
Black mould around bath tiles
Dirty taps
Musty mould smell in the bathroom 
A broken toilet cistern- the noise was like the toilet refilling after you’d pressed the flush but it was CONSTANT 

Jordan the General Manager told us that the new owner had promised a major refurbishment in January 2023

This Hotel needs its doors CLOSED NOW

Selling  rooms of this poor quality should be an offence so it better to try and warn potential guests beforehand 

We checked out straight away and had the refund within three days

Should’ve checked TRIPADVISOR!!!

Absolutely dreadful - we only stayed one night of a two night break. 
The manager on duty during our stay was unhelpful & rude. 
The first room we were sent to (room 41) had a damp smell & no hot water. We reported the issue about the water and the manager came up to the floor we were on & spent time bashing & banging the boiler and kept telling us to give it time, which we did for at least half an hour.  She was sweating & kept burning herself on the boiler! 
We were offered another room  - not by the manager who actually walked off & ignored us when we tried to talk to her to find out what our options were. 
A young employee came to our room with a new door card & when I asked if the new room would be ok, he shrugged his shoulders & said he didn’t know. We then went to room 27 (very tiny) which was appalling. Dirty stained curtains & carpets, mould in the bathroom, damaged furniture - I could go on! 
We felt we couldn’t approach the manager again - she was very unapproachable, rude & completely lacking any customer service skills! 
We stayed one night & fled the following day. Hotel not fit for purpose & staff lacking any customer service skills! The whole place is in disrepair. 
I have emailed the coaching inns group who own the hotel but have received no response! 

Dreadful hotel & ignorant management! Hotel not fit for purpose!

Room 34 avoid at all cost.
Absolutely dreadful place, the room was the worst I’ve ever stayed in.
Broken toilet seat no toilet paper cracked sink and taps that move around, and a block glass wall that lights up the whole bedroom if someone else uses the bathroom in the night.
The carpet was absolutely discussing and covered in stains and lifting up all I’ve over the place, window doesn’t  open and curtains are hanging on for dear life.
The single bed is completely past its sell by date and has seen better days, very uncomfortable and caved in.
The double bed head is beyond words, it looks like it’s peeling just gross.
We got in  the room at 11pm and we couldn’t wait to leave, got up at 6am and left without eating breakfast, which we had payed for.
Room cost £138 for the night inc breakfast.
I wouldn’t pay £38.
Very disappointed.

Very disappointed

A hugely disappointing dinner with food piled high on a small plate with over cooked meat and vegetables, drowned in gravy.  No care had been taken with presentation and service, Grossly over priced wine and spirits in the bar, no help available to serve.  We had to fetch our own wine glasses from the bar.  The rooms and furnishings are shabby and tired.

Came in took 5-10 minutes to find someone to check in, we had room 57 which isn’t sign posted the signs go to 56, as the person at reception what way the room was, after walking 10 minutes felt silly as couldn’t find it went back to reception and said this he did say yeah I gave you the wrong directions… the room itself is very depressing and needs cleaning at the least, the kitchen vent outside the window wasn’t ideal either, the morning was great because the tv has a timer set for 6:45 so it turns on full volume, then at 7:15 the fans outside turn on again so don’t expect to sleep in, the shower did give us a laugh just on how pathetic it is 😂 actually took a video and sent it to some friends to give them a laugh, the breakfast options are suitable for half if not most people but not if your girlfriend is lactose intolerant and a vegetarian as she had the choice between dry toast and hash browns… I thought I’d have a breakfast but was soon put off by a couple of long blond ish hairs in there lucky there’s a Wetherspoons close by! Honestly can’t remember a hotel with a worse experience and also has the cheek to charge as much, do yourself a favour don’t stay here unless you want a dirty run down room, bad night sleep and hairy food 👍🏻
