Great stop over 

We recently hired out the back room which opens up onto an outdoor space. Dan and his team provided us with a delicious buffet. The afternoon couldn’t have gone any better, the bar staff provided an excellent service, despite the numerous cocktails they were asked to make. We have had dinner there many times in the past so it was an easy choice for us. Would highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere to hold a function.

Wake (celebration of our fathers life)

we had a party there last night,very disappointed ,all courses were not great especially the turkey dinner,turkey was dry and over cooked plus pigs in blankets were burnt,sprouts were rock hard worst meal i have ever had unfortunately

give the food a big miss

Nice lunch of chicken and cassoulet...Good portion, reasonable price. Staff pleasant and pretty efficient service.  I don't like being asked for service contribution as I'm paying the bill. Overall, enjoyed lunch. 

Good place 

Stayed for two night while visiting relatives. The place has been brought by a group and some things seemed to of improved. Had the evening meal which was excellent, a bit lacking in vegetarian choice one of our party commented on this. Portions were of good size and service was excellent. We stayed in room 16 which was a good size, the bathroom had one of the best showers. Good night's sleep on really comfortable bed. Breakfast was good but wife thought it a bit strange no pastries, cereal or toast making facilities. To be fair since covid a lot of places are taking the same route. We would stay again when visiting the area. 

Good Food and generous portions.

I’ve used this hotel a few times before and always been pleased but this time I felt it had lost the spark , we had a double room in what we were told the old half of the hotel , we had no heat the radiators didn’t alter , no thermostat so we had to ask for an extra quilt, the dressing table had no mirror for wife to hair dry etc so I had to take the mirror off the wall from other side of the room so she could do what women do, the floor creaked badly so if u got up in the night I’m sure we probably woke the next room lol , the shower was broken and the temperature stuck on hot but tolerable but no adjustment at all , my breakfast when ordered came in two mins so obviously under heat lamps too which my mushroom was stone cold and a variance in temperatures for all other parts. I’m not a moaner I put up with it as I know it may be a glitch as I’ve had great times there before but I write this so management can correct these items and be aware . The staff were great couldnt fault them . Let’s hope this is a glitch and the room no 2 can have some upgrades and don’t worry I’ll be back as I know these things happen , just making them aware.

Drop in standard

Had a work meal here and the food was very mixed all the roast was over cooked and very tough and dry. The burger was nice The meal was booked for 5pm and was told at 6.50 that the pub was closing at 7pm. Which we were never told about. Considering we spent close to £500 with them, I thought it was very unprofessional!! I would definitely never recommend them

Don't bother

Staff were lovely, food was good. Struck me as a little over priced for this type of establishment however.
We were sat near the kitchen which is open plan. There did appear to be quite a lot of chaotic goings on and a vast amount of food handling (I would have expected to see more tongs and similar kitchen tools in use.
A couple of our group requested salad instead of chips. This consisted of 2 different types of leaves, no tomato, cucumber or any form of salad accompaniment you would expect as a chip substitute.

Nice pub, good food but slightly over priced for what it is.

Had our annual siblings night out post Christmas at the bower ,normally it’s been ok here but last night (29 December) wasnt great 
8pm booking only to get menus around 8-30,we had to ask for these and it wasn’t overly busy
Have to say the menu is quite boring to what it used to be before butcombe took it over
Starters came but then we waited nearly 25 mins after for mains,again we had to query …was only burgers after all
The chicken burgers were tiny compared to the bun they were in and also very dark in colour ( as in fried in dirty oil)
Beef burger was ok but not as nice as burgers before butcombe
Hair was found in the coleslaw pot too which is never nice 
Biscoff donuts for pudding tasted like they had been done in the same fryer as the chips
Over 3 hours from start to finish for a table of 8 on what wasn’t an overly busy night isn’t a great look and we probs won’t use the bower again
Also hope the staff washed their hands regularly as the were constantly stroking the dog on the next table to us 

Gone downhill

Booked to stay for our honeymoon weekend. Hotel.com's description of the rooms was that the bathrooms included baths & showers, we booked on this basis. I sent a request to the hotel to ensure we had a room with a bath and that also this was our honey weekend. When we arrived we were shown to a room that only had a shower when we asked about our request the person checking us in tried to see what they could do, it seems that our notes had not been read until then. Unfortunately, the other rooms were booked out and we were offered a bottle of bubbly for the trouble, we advised that we didn't drink alcohol, in which we were offered complementary soft drinks instead, but these never arrived. It was a bit deflating that the Inn didn't do anything or weren't even aware that it was our honeymoon, not that we expected a great deal, but it would for made our stay more special, as it was a very special occasion for us and were just left after being offered complimentary drinks that never showed up. When trying to do the checkout, the automatic system advised us that we had an outstanding invoice, even though we already prepaid it. Fortunately, there was someone at the desk to help clarify the issue. The Inn itself was lovely, very clean and cosy. The breakfast was delicious, and lots of local choices. The room was comfortable as well, the only issue was the doors are heavy and the hallway is very echoey, so you can hear people entering and leaving their rooms which seems very loud.
