My girlfriend had booked a stay here for April 2020 for 11 guests. She has never received a confirmation email although the full payment of £300.00 was taken from her account on 31st August 2019. I have just looked online and have seen that the hostel and bar have closed down. Can you confirm when she will receive her refund and apology as this has left her up the creek without a paddle.

Where is our refund?

This hostel is in my top worst hostels list now. Incredibly dirty everywhere and specially in the toilets and the kitchen. They usually never clean it properly and do cleaning rarely. Stinks. Staff are rude and make the customers feel miserable. Beds are three levels high, metal and noisy, feels like in army, you can't even sit in there, always hit a head. It is a cheapest option in town and it was why I've chosen to stay. But if you don't want your stay in Brighton to be a nightmare, pay an extra pound for a night and find another option.

After arriving at the hostel around 11 with plenty of time to check in according to the website I was told to "f**k off" by the owner. Needing a place to stay I questioned him and realised he was very drunk. The hostel is attached to a horrible pub and I think that was the cause. 
When questioned the owner changed his mind and said I could stay but only if i handed him my driving licence, passport and bank card to be retrieved in the morning. Of course this is not normal and there was no way I was going to hand a drunk man my documents so I had to leave and find another place.
Please please no-one stay here! It could be very dangerous, I lost my money, had to find other accommodation and a horrible experience you don't want to have to do!

Friendly staff in the pub below, clean, peaceful and practical dorm, here there are a mixture of tourists and longer stay, old and young. Everyone was helpful and friendly and unlike many hostels this place has no dramas going on. It is well run and maintained, sleep quality is very good in the cost dorm beds with curtains for privacy and plug points for charging and for your own little lights. No complaints here. Will stay again. The showers are also very good and have separate locking cubicles. Most of all, there is Charlie, the large and beautiful pub cat/boss.

The location is great! All the people working were really nice. How do we know the staff are nice? Because we had some complaints. The room was super cold, even with the window closed and also the room was dusty which brought my family members allergic reactions. The three level beds would be okay - if they had room to sit in. Also for some reason only some beds had a lamp, others like me had to use my own light sources.
We rented towels but they turned out to be unusable. Drying yourself with one would just make you covered in lint. And the showers also had a window that didn't close. Cold!
The bathroom across room 4 was also problematic. The motion censor for the lamp is outside the toilets and if you were in for more than 2 minutes then the lights went off.

Good customer service, bad facilities

It looks cool and cozy, but is unclean. The shared bunk-beds shake too much from other tenant's unease.

Very grateful for the included, and clean, sheets and bedlinens.

But so much could be way better. This is probably a good spot for drunk football-fans or something, but not for clean, sober concert-goers.

Dirty; shower out of order; no gender specific bathroom or shower.

OVER PRICED! We booked online and when we arrived they doubled the price! You have to make and unmake your bed... the bedding had stains in them. The bathrooms were DISGUSTING. I didn't even shower. They look like they've never been cleaned. We paid the same price here as we did in Paris and London and had amazing CLEAN hostels with staff on-site 24/7. I do not understand what we paid for. This was worse than what I have seen for prisons. Find a different hostel.

Disgusting

The only pleasant part of our experience was the greeting from the manager before things went downhill from there. We were surprisingly informed that we'd have to pay a deposit of £250 as we were a group above 6 despite the email unclearly explaining this. The email stated this applied for groups of 15+ yet there were only 10 of us. Uneasy to agree to this substantial payment he assured us that unless there was significant damage to the room the money would be returned the next day. It has now been three weeks and many phone calls later repeatedly giving the same information no money has been returned. The room was left in the condition we arrived in and no follow up emails were sent stating that we'd damaged the room in any way, therefore the full sum of the deposit should have been returned. We've now been informed that it is my personal bank's responsibility to withdraw the deposit money from the hostel, I find this highly unlikely. 
I don't even know where to begin with the state of the hygiene at this accommodation. There were stains all over my duvet and I don't mean the tea kind. I'm amazed that anyone would have any privacy to accomplish this with only an A3 size curtain to shield the bed from view. 
Wearing flipflops or some form of footwear into the toilets or showers is a necessity. The most cleaning these showers have had are from the visitors own shower gel. See most hostel reviews complain about the showers being too cold but this was far from the case. After finding a temperature that was marginally bearable, I was left red all over from the scolding water. 
The floors were disgustingly sticky and given the option I'd rather have used a public toilet than these facilities. Reading management replies from past reviews, I find it hilarious they have the audacity to say the hostel is cleaned for 8 hours a day. DO NOT BELIEVE THIS! 
In summary if you haven’t already gathered, we will never be staying here again and would strongly advise not to visit. No amount of discount for a future visit would persuade us to stay again.  We will be considering legal action if this deposit is not returned as a binding contract was signed .

Money scam

We stayed one night in this inn and we're not going back there dirty room, mattress, dirty couch, bed bugs, I got out of there full of stings.

Worst hostel I've ever stayed in

I have stayed in the big dorm rooms, i'm not a fan but in a crunch it's ok, the other rooms are really good. The staff are always good here and the location is very good. I know there are minmal showers but i never had to wait for one, it is a place with a lot of character and a cat too!
