I think John is the friendliest B and B host I've ever met.  My husband and I wanted a short break from London, somewhere accessible by train. Broadlands Gate appealed to us because it's a bit outside of Brockenhurst, includes breakfast, and had a suite available.  Our suite had two bedrooms, one full bath, and a WC, PLUS a sitting area complete with books and everything to make tea.  John is so friendly and flexible, and took the time to make up our beds after we'd left for the day, complete with a chocolate on the pillow. The breakfast each morning was so filling we didn't need lunch---yogurt, granola, fruit, coffee, toast with various jams and marmalade, sausages, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, and eggs cooked to order.  It's only about a 15 minute walk, if that, into central Brockenhurst.  We also were able to walk to Roydon Woods Nature Reserve, which allowed us to really get away from everyone and immerse ourselves in the woods.  We had a more casual dinner at the Snakecatcher Pub and then a fancier dinner at The Huntsman, both excellent.  This break was everythinf we hoped it would be, and staying at Broadlands Gate was a big part of that!

A perfect break in the New Forest!

We stayed 3 nights during a long holiday visiting family in the UK. This was one of the best B&Bs we stayed in during our holiday. Positioned on the very edge of the village of Brockenhurst, this grand home was full of character. We were travelling with elderly family members who were very grateful when John offered the use of the stairlift for travelling up & down the grand staircase.
We stayed in the master suite, with 2 bedrooms, a comfortable private lounge, a bathroom and extra toilet. A wonderful cooked breakfast was served every morning in the atmospheric period dining room. John was the perfect host and nothing was too much trouble. As we were missing our dog at home, we enjoyed being greeted by John's offsider, Quentin the spaniel, every morning. We would certainly recommend staying at Broadlands Gate.

Avoid at all costs, told me I couldnt cancel a day before I could of cancel and get a full refund.

Then they took £450.00 for a room that my Aunt didnt stay in, she got anaphylaxis and had a angina attack and had to be taken back to Kent.

He then promised to re advertise the room which he didnt do. 

Took 10 days and a lot of arguments to get £200.00 back as Jon said I need to pay the £250.00 which I honoured as he told me I had to and couldn't  get a refund.

Then when I spoke to booking.com 
they  took another £200.00 out of my bank,  they also told me that when I asked to cancel on the 26th of September that when I asked Jon and he said no, that I could of infact cancelled and been given a full refund.... I honoured my side but I was lied to by Jon.

I would be very wary with staying here.

 My Aunt had Anaphylaxis and had to go home before wedding and she also had an angina attack.

£450.00 for a room she didn't stay in as had to get taken back home before even arriving.

My wife and I attended a Wedding in Brockenhurst on 16th September and we had a four night stay at Broadlands Gate.
Our room was very clean and comfortable, we had the Junior Suite with a separate lounge area and TV in addition to the TV we had in our bedroom, tea and coffee facilities and fresh milk in a small fridge!
The breakfast was first class and we felt very much at home, we travel to the New Forest and Bournemouth quite often and will make a point of spending a night or two at Broadlands Gate when we are next in the area, for us, absolutely perfect!

Very Comfortable and Host Extremely Hospitable!

The loveliest of hosts, the most charming of houses, and an excellent New Forest hound. From the moment we made our booking we were made to feel very welcome. The level of care and attention from our host was only rivalled by their outstanding breakfast in a lovely dining room.

John is a superb host; in his house nothing is too much trouble from dietary requirements to knowledge of the local area, transportation etc. He is a great guy to talk to before and after your day out and always is interested in what you have done. The junior suite we stayed in was excellent and the idea of your own small lounge to relax in at the end of a day was a bonus. John serves up a great breakfast and is very attentive without being over the top. The house is very interesting and sits in beautiful grounds within 5mins walk of the Brockenhurst heathland, also it is within 15mins walk of some lovely local pubs and restaurants. Thanks John we will be back

Very welcoming and hospitable

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by John and his lovely doggies. We loved John's B&B, it was so grand and made you feel very special.
Nothing was to much trouble. John was the perfect host.
Breakfast was simply superb. Served up in the beautiful dining room where you mixed in with the other guests.
Thank you John, we enjoyed our stay. Also thankyou for the phone call to make sure we got home OK.
We will be back, definitely!!!

Sons Wedding in Brockenhurst

John was welcoming and charming. Unfortunately the property did not suit us. I feel the cold but the house was extremely hot. I rarely open windows overnight even in summer at home but had to open the velux windows wide overnight on a very cold day. We switched off the radiators but the heat kept rising from downstairs. Cigarette smoke drifted up the stairs. I initially thought a resident must have smoked in the rooms but fresh smoke greeted us in the morning and I can’t stand smoke. We explained that we weren’t comfortable staying the planned second night and John readily agreed to refund us for the unused booked night. The breakfast was lovely and it is well located.
