We have just returned after another relaxing stay at the Cholmeley  Arms . Food - Great. Rooms and beds- Great. Staff throughout- Great . John and Lesley -  The Greatest  , Friendliest host’s ever . If it hadn’t been for the “ Four in a bed “ programme on tv we may not have visited the Cholmeley Arms , so glad we like the programme. John and Lesley have made all our visits so enjoyable. After  hearing the news of Johns retirement we would like to wish John and Lesley all the best for the future . 

“ Another Great Stay “

Only a one night stay but it was just perfect. The room was clean and comfortable and the food ( dinner and breakfast) were first class. Special mention for the people though. So friendly but totally professional with it, they even set us out a table to allow our dog to sit with us in the bar! All in all a great little overnight stay and we hope to go back in the summer and enjoy some al fresco dining. However, loved the log fire this time

A perfect overnight stay!

We stayed at the Cholmely Arms for one night only en route to elsewhere  Our room was amazing - it had everything we needed plus a fridge! So good to have proper milk for our cups of tea!  The evening mead was excellent  - good selection and enormous portions!  We were still full at breakfast - but we had a good try at eating the - again - huge portions we were served.

Lovely pub with great food and perfect hosts

We stayed for the night and had dinner in the restaurant - The food was absolutely delicious and clearly made with love. It is relatively pricey, but the portions are generous and it is cooked to a very high standard. 
The room was clean and comfortable, with all the amenities you could need including hairdryer, mini fridge, toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities. 
Make sure you stay for the breakfast, with portions rivalling those served at dinner!

Wear your adjustable waistband!

We booked a night stay at the last minute. Our room was very large and comfortable with a huge bed and lovely bathroom with both a bath and a walk in shower. There is a friendly bar and restaurant. The food was excellent and service very good. Breakfast was amazing with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal and cooked breakfast cooked to order. Staff were very friendly. Would certainly recommend a stay or eating in the restaurant.

A fabulous stay

We stayed at the Cholmeley Arms in one of the lovely rooms, it was just perfect for us, very spacious, very clean and everything was well presented. From check in to check out, we enjoyed our stay so much that we are looking to book again in the near future. The room was excellent value for money.

Staff at the Cholmeley Arms were all very friendly and efficient, special thanks goes to the chef so such lovely food, our evening meal was perfect and breakfast was out of this word, very fresh and well cooked, there was plenty on the plate.

So in summary, we would recommend this for either just a meal or a night over, excellent value for money.

Excellent stay, lovely food, really nice staff, thank you

Stayed here for the night as a stop over before going on to Burghley Horse Trials for the day. The place could not have been better. The Staff were friendly, the  room was lovely set out with twin beds as asked was clean, was stocked with couple bottles of water tea, coffee and proper milk (not those little uht things).  

The dog was allowed and they had a perfect garden area just outside the room so she had a run round whilst we sat out in the evening before heading down for dinner. The star of the show. The food came fast after ordering and was just AMAZING! We both had a chicken mushroom tarragon pie which we both agreed was the best we had ever had. Super tasty with nice chips and veg. Only problem was trying to finish it. 

After a great nights sleep feeling relaxed we again headed down for the breakfast and met the lovely owner of the place. There was plenty of choice loads of fruit, yoghurts and cereals. But it had to be the full english for both of us. The owner took great delight in saying 'do your best ladies' when been presented with it. It was again fantastic (and filling). The sausages were fantastic and when we commented the owner said he had made them yesterday. As a business and using locally sourced ingredients don't think you could have got much closer. 

Had a great day at Burghley feeling full of great food and totally relaxed having had a brilliant over night stop. 
All in all this place is perfect.

THE CHICKEN PIE!

Enjoyed this little gem so much that I've returned several times. Wonderful rooms.  Delicious breakfast. Good food with varied dinner options. Great pub with lots of outdoor seating. Beautiful village surroundings. Very accommodating hosts.

A real gem

The staff were courteous,attentive and polite excellent customer service skills couldnt do enough for you,the room was beautiful everything you needed lovely area to sit outside your room even a fridge in your room,the food was amazing booked again already

Weekend away much needed fabulous in every way wonderful place

We have just returned from our second fantastic relaxing stay at Cholmeley Arms . This must be one of most peaceful areas of England. The rooms are well furnished and spacious, comfortable king size beds , good size bathroom and table and chairs just outside the door looking onto the lawned garden. The quality of the food is first class at breakfast and evening meal. The size of Johns breakfast’s fill you up for most of day ( John does not know the meaning of small portions ) so be prepared. Lesley and Johns hospitality is second to none . Their staff throughout are very friendly and helpful. The Cholmeley Arms is the hub of one of the friendliest villages . Our thanks to John, Lesley and all the staff for making our second visit so enjoyable.
