Shop stores is a home away from home and the owners were so kind and accommodating. 

The courtyard area is really relaxing and welcoming and the space in the rooms was perfect. 

The room was beautifully furnished and the little touches of available snacks in the fridge were so lovely. 

We would love to come here again!

Beautiful B&B. One of my favourites visited.

Unfortunately proprietor taken ill so our breakfast was cancelled via a txt msg just as we were getting ready. Was only given a £10 reduction, which at the time I didn’t quibble over but in truth  it didn’t seem much due to our inconvenience. Naturally I was sorry to learn of illness but I’d expected in region of £20 to cover 2 full English type breakfasts,  so I was left feeling disappointed. Hence poor rating. Breakfast was had at a Wallys retro cafe nearby, (which was the only place open and was £7each).

I don’t often stay in guest houses generally opting for hotels as I’ve had a few bad experiences in the past. But Ship’s Stores and Debra have definitely revised my opinion and future plans. Debra is a perfect host. Attentive and helpful without being over the top. Rooms are self- contained almost little bungalows with all the facilities you could possibly want , including a well stocked mini bar.  Clean with lovely comfortable large bed and you are welcome to come and go as you please . Suffolk breakfast was the best ‘full English’ I have tasted in years! Cooked to perfection and bread used for toast this morning was gorgeous. As always extra points from me for having Marmite available. Ship’s Stores is set in the middle of the stunning village of Clare. Well located, I parked directly outside both days I was there. Unfortunately I had an foot injury during my stay and couldn’t explore this beautiful area of England as fully as I would have liked. So I am determined to return. The village church is spectacular. I only made it to one ‘local’ public house. The Globe, which was across the road, didn’t serve food but again a real thumbs up. Proper pub lovely welcome, beer garden a proper sun trap and when I return I hope’Nelson’ remembers my ball throwing abilities! There are other pubs in the village I intended to visit but couldn’t make it. Clare Castle and park well worth a visit and Lavenham Village is about ten miles away and an experience of its own. I am lucky to have travelled quite widely, in UK, Europe and long haul but this was definitely on my ‘favourite’ trips list.

Stayed here for 1 night lovely little place very nice room with a very comfortable and large bed .the location is perfect for walking into clare. The breakfast in the morning was delicious  and served by a very nice host.would definitely stay here again.

Lovely little bed and breakfast 

First time staying at the ship stores. I love this place, staff are very welcoming and helpful. My room was spotless, lovely and well presented. Bed was very comfortable.
Lovely courtyard area to sit in if required and the village of clare is beautiful.
I would highly recommend the ship stores and I hope to stay here again soon.


2 night stay

Stayed for 3 nights b and b over the weekend. The people who own the b and b were very friendly and run a great guest house.
Our room was very comfortable with a good shower and comfy bed.
Breakfast was excellent with a great choice.
Highly recommended!

Great Stay

I visited Clare for my daughters wedding.
Colin & Debbie were very friendly and helpful.
My room was spotless clean, very comfortable, I couldn’t fault it, well done Debbie.
Breakfast was excellent on both days. Looking forward to returning.

Most amazing place

Had a night booked here by a friend while working in his pub.  What a beautiful place! I really can’t rate the Ship Stores highly enough.  The owner Debbie is such a wonderful host and made me feel most welcome.  The rooms are super clean, comfortable and have everything you could ask for.  Comfy beds, great facilities and so well cared for.  Breakfast was excellent, above and beyond what many others can offer.  Well worth a visit and my sincere thanks for a lovely stay.  Worth popping into the Cock Inn for dinner and a pint, just 1 minute walk away.  Great food and a very friendly team. Will be back very soon to the Ship Stores!  

Hidden Gem

I stayed at the guest house Ship Stores for two nights and I describe the positive and negative sides of it. The positive sides to be sure are: - the abundant and good breakfast; - the position of the rooms away from the street, so far from the noise; - the pleasant furnishing of the rooms. The negative sides are basically three. There is a bad air conditioning of the rooms, in fact in the room where I stayed there was a stove that actually warmed the room, but once it was off, the room cooled down. The windows of the room became wet. The installation of an air conditioner would change this unpleasant situation.

Air conditioning and hygiene to be improved

Lovely clean & tidy room with what looks like a new bathroom. Owners were very pleasant and helpful. Bed is very big and comfortable. If you're ever in the area and looking for a nice stay, this is the place!
